5/9/05 Press Release - Fast Eddy Race Organisation

Round 4: UK Cross-Country Race Series, Ellesmere, Shropshire

The fourth round of the '05 UK Cross-Country Race Series saw over 250 riders compete at the lengthened Ellesmere circuit in Shropshire on Sunday September 4th, where Honda rider Paul Edmondson topped the Pro class, Darren Carter, Oliver Moyce and Stephen Grimshaw all claimed Expert class wins and Colin James, Jamie Paget and Jonathan Hayman shared victories in the two-hour, morning Clubman race.

With conditions much drier than they were at the third round of the series, which was brought to a premature halt due to a torrential thunder storm making conditions unsafe to race, the 200 Clubman competitors were the first to compete with 125cc KTM mounted Colin James leading from start to finish. Placing as the only Clubman rider in any class to complete nine laps, Colin finished ahead of Steve Bing and David Grimshaw in the 125cc two-stroke and 250cc four-stroke class. With 60 riders entered into the 125cc/250cc class, racing was close during every minute of the race.

In the Clubman Open two-stroke class it was youngsters Jamie Paget from Plymouth and Luke Meredith from Buxton that lead the way as the pair finished first and second respectively with peter Clark finishing in third. With over 60 riders competing in the Clubman Open two-stroke class 14 riders managed to complete eight laps with over 30 finishing on seven laps. At the head of the Clubman Open four-stroke class Jonathan Hayman and Nigel Batchelor both completed eight laps to finish close to five and a half minutes apart with Michael Willis finishing third on seven laps.

Honda mounted Darren Carter topped the Expert 125cc two-stroke and 250cc four-stroke class completing 11 laps during the near three-hour race to place ahead of Antony Healey and William Midgely. In the Expert Open two-stroke class Husqvarna rider Oliver Moyce finished first on borrowed machinery, competing as one of a number of riders soon to depart for the ISDE in Slovakia. Following Oliver home were Simon Comer and Steven Pettit in second and third position. The smallest of all classes competing at round four of the UK Cross-Country Race Series, the Expert Open four-stroke class was topped by Stephen Grimshaw on 11 laps followed by Tim Stowe and Drew Harvey, both completing 10 laps.

Paul Edmondson claimed the Pro class win at Ellesmere, reversing his defeat to Paul Whibley at round three of the series. Placing second Whibley finished the race just over two minutes behind Edmondson. Kawasaki rider Ryan Voase was the first to lead before he parted company with his machine at high speed and put himself out of the race. Allowing Edmondson and Whibley to pull ahead of the rest of the Pro class, the pair both finished on 13 laps completed, the only Pro class riders to do so. Claiming third Jason Thomas (Photo: Jonty Edmunds) recorded his best ever UK XC result finishing ahead of Si Wakely, who finished as the best placed 125cc rider, and Wayne Braybrook. Behind Wayne Scots Ricky Mair and Richard Hay placed just seconds apart with Chris Hockey, Chris Tett and Andrew Edwards rounding out the top 10.

Whibz 2nd @ Ellesmere - GasGasUK press release

Dear all; Paul Whibley has just finished 2nd to Paul Edmondson (HONDA) at the penultimate round of the 2005 FAST EDDY RACE SERIES. Paul got a good start with Ryan Voase and Eddy, but a high speed crash by Ryan resulting in the Kawasaki rider retiring from the event and sitting in the St. Johns Ambulance for a while, has now destroyed Ryans chances of winning the championship. This retirement by Ryan has made things alot easier for Whibz regarding the Overall Championship standings. Paul now leads the championship by 17 points from Fast Eddy himself and so with only one round to go at the end of the month, all Whibz has to do is 'stay safe' at the I.S.D.E and the Fast Eddy Championship should be his. This is not the ideal way to win a championship with Ryan crashing out but nevertheless crashing is part of racing and i hope Ryan is not too sore this morning.

Stuart Day (GAS GAS) finished 5th in the Clubmen 250 2T class after recovering from a knee injury which means he now has a VERY narrow '1' point lead going into the last race at Culham at the end of the month!! Jamie Paget (KTM) had a superb ride to win the class yesterday infront of GAS GAS employee Luke Meredith who rode a new "06 EC250 Gasser for the first time. Pete Clark (GAS GAS) was 3rd and our own 'Factory Kev' Hipwell finished 6th on a new "06 EC300. Well done guys! Regards Shirty
