Youngsters Fly at the Dawn to Dusk 12 hour Enduro

Two 16 year old youngsters literally flew at the Dawn to Dusk 12 hour Enduro held on 27th August in the Glynneath forests in South Wales. The Cardiff Volkswagen Team of Tom Pugh-Jones (KTM 450EXC) and Tom Lee (Husqvarna WR125) won the sportsman's class. Both riders completed 7 laps of the demanding 18 mile course & set lap times of 47 minutes which compared with far more experienced opposition.

Racing in the exalted company of the Husky Sport team (Daryl Boulter & Wyn Hughes), Edmondson Racing/ Par Homes and GH Husqvarna teams was a dream come true for the Monmouthshire School boys.

Thomas Lee is an avid off-road motorcycle competitor who has just turned 16-years old and finally able to compete in adult enduro events. Prior to this Thomas has been riding in youth Hare and Hounds events such as Cotswold Enduro Club and WOR events since he was 13-years old. He has won numerous awards at this level but has always wanted to compete in the tougher adult events, the 2006 Dawn to Dusk 12-hour enduro being his first such event.

Commenting on the event Thomas said " I have been looking forward to racing the adult Dawn to Dusk for a couple of years, to finish the event would have been a dream come true, to win our class is something else - although after 12 hours we ended up having to complete the last lap in almost darkness, a great day"

Tom Pugh-Jones who has been riding for three years and is now an accomplished Motocross rider in the senior 125cc AMCA class, having finished second in the 2005 Wessex / South Wales Inter Junior championship he moved to the junior class this season and has recently been promoted to senior status. In addition to his motocross Tom has taken part in a few WOR and local Hare and Hounds events and has competed in the last two junior Weston beach races.

Tom's thoughts on the event " Hard work but a great day, the 1st lap was the worst as I didn't fully understand what the cross arrows meant and visited a few hedges along the way!!!!…..I decided to swap my usual KTM SX 250F for dad's KTM 450EXC, which worked really well, but I have to apologise for the worn out rear tyre and various bits of damage……a brilliant day"
