A
STRIKEOUT FOR MERRIMAN AT THE ITALIAN ENDURO CHAMPIONSHIP - Aprilia
release
A slip in the first special forced Stefan Merriman to throw in the towel at the 4th round of the Italian Enduro Championship, that took place on June 23-24th in Matelica. As a result of the fall, the Australian dislocated his shoulder. There was no possibility of continuing to race. On Tuesday, Merriman will leave for Australia as planned where he will take place in a 4-day race that is part of the national championships. The 4th round of the Italian Enduro Championship left a bitter taste in the mouth of Stefan Merriman. The Aprilia champion wanted to move past the difficult round at Collalto but was instead disappointed, ending up in the dirt during the first special. His fall was devastating, dislocating his shoulder (that was immediately reset by emergency medical workers). There was no way he could race on. His whole team was forced to head to the showers before he even crossed the first photocell. A few days will be necessary to digest the anger and pain. In fact, a race would actually work better. So, just as planned, Merriman will leave for Australia on Tuesday the 26th where he will take part in a race for the national championships from July 5-8th (like the Six Days, but only for four). Merriman will then fly directly to Hancock, USA, where he will join Team Aprilia for the double international stop in the United States and Canada. It was also a tough weekend for Nicolas Paganon (Aprilia RXV 4.5), who wasn't able to perform a good race and placed 16th on Saturday and 24th on Sunday. Luigi Seguy sat out the Matelica race as he dealt with a family problem. He was not emotionally ready to compete in a 2-day race.
