WAYNE
BRAYBROOK has just finished 3rd at the infamous TOUGH ONE
- organised by www.worevents.com
With only one Trial ridden and 3 hours of Enduro practice since the Scott Trial back in October Wayne was not as bike fit as he would have liked to have been but as Wayne says 'pain is only temporary' and he never gave in and got the Gasser on the podium. WELL DONE PAL! Wayne gave 110% (as normal) in the main 2 hour race which started with all the Pro riders having to fit a wheel and helmet before they started their bikes. I think Wayne was the only rider choosing to fit the front wheel which was made quicker to fit because of a special spindle courteousy of Steve Plain. Wayne had an awesome start and was passed only by Micheal Brown on the Trials bike, Knighter and Taddy Blasusiak. Browny actually lead the main race for the first hour because a Trials bike was alot better suited to the technical course than any Enduro bike. Nevertheless big respect to Micheal and congrats for winning the Trials race (easily) earlier. With the course being so technical many of the Pro riders chose to use rear Trials tyres which are alot softer than Enduro tyres and obviously cope better over the rocks, logs and tyres etc. So Knighter won easily from Team 'mate' Taddy Blasusiak, Wayne 3rd, Eddy 4th, Sagar 5th, Bolton 6th, Despres 7th and GORDON CROCKARD was 8th on the Steve Plain prepared GAS GAS EC300. Gordy thoroughly enjoyed the event and was well up on the first lap until an awesome crash over the tyres because of pressure from Paul Eddy. He then struggled with wet and shitty grips after the crash but after clean gloves he settled into some good lap times and finished a very creditable 8th. Greg evans was 9th and JUAN KNIGHT on a GAS GAS EC300 was 10th. It was good to see Juan back at the T1 where he also rode the Trials race on a 1971 MAR OSSA! Under intense abuse the Ossa expired and Juan was forced to retire where at least he could save his already 'nil' energy for the main race... Robert Wrayford was 11th also on a GAS GAS EC300. 'Rabbit' is off to Hells Gate in two weeks time where he will be hoping for a better result. Lincoln Brewster was 15th on his KB RACING supported GAS GAS which was good considering his rear brake snapped on the first lap! Chris Tett borrowed a Gasser off Steve Plain for the Tough One and was amazed on how much easier it is to ride and extreme event on a lightweight torquey 2 stroke compared to his usual big 4T Honda. BRADLEY KING on the K4 Offroad GAS GAS EC250 was 10th in the Expert Class. The major successful GAS GAS sponsored Trials race was won easier by MICHEAL BROWN (beta) who rode fast and smooth to beat Graham Jarvis and Alexz Wigg. STEVE COLLEY (JST GAS GAS) finished a disappointing 4th. Steve was confident before the race and i actually predicted he would win it easily after winning last year with no rear brake. However this was not meant to be this year and one reason is that he used an enduro moose in the front tyre which proved too hard and very difficult to ride with. He struggled keeping control of the gasser and had quite a few crashes. This was actually my idea to fit the front moose so i except full responiblity for this (sorry pal!). Nevertheless Steve admitted that this was not an excuse for not winning and had the utmost respect for the 3 lads that beat him. Team JST GAS GAS UK Teamsters Ross Danby and Sam Haslam were 5th and 6th respectively. Special thanks to ROY KERR from TRIAL TECH for the lighting systems and our own 'FACTORY KEV' for preparing Waynes bike. Congrats to EVERYONE involved at WOR! Best Regards Shirty |
