The MWTRA Cadwallader sponsored Powys Enduro took place on Sunday 3rd June. The event was a round of the ACU Sidecar Championship. The weather was ideal with cool air & slightly overcast skies. Rain in the week had softened the ground & it kept down the dust but the forecast rain on the day fortunately did not materialise. The start was in Carno nr Newtown as usual & the first riders were away at 8.01. The 1st stage included the first test before the riders turned south to begin the 100 plus mile single clockwise lap that took in the Dyfi forest. Stage 2 was the Trannon with it's bogs & windfarm. Stage 3 climbed the slippery stones of the Cemmaes sunken . Checks 4 & 5 roamed around the Dyfi Forest. This year the event did not include the Dyfnant Forest for ecological reasons. The second test was just before the penultimate stage which was the morning test in reverse & it was tight. Tom Sagar won the premier, one & a half seconds ahead of Simon Wakely. Only 11 riders finished clean on tine but nearly the whole field finished. Photos available from Keith Bowen Video & DVDs: Frank Morgan, Malvern Lodge, Howey, LLANDRINDOD WELLS, Powys, LD1 5RE. The Powys was sponsored by Cadwallader & organised by the Mid Wales Trail Riders Association. The weather was warm & sunny with a couple of short thundery showers to keep the dust down. The 120 mile course was a single lap as usual & the riders were given 6 hours to complete it. The Powys - which is often described as a one day Welsh - is a very popular event & is always over subscribed. Andy Waters travelled from Diss just to open the course. The first test was new & close to the start with good access for spectators. From Ch1 to 2 the going got softer. Ch4 & 5 took the riders through the Dyfi forest before almost returning to the start & Ch6. A second loop out to the finish at Ch7 included the final test before the riders returned to Carno. Mx rider Sean Grosvenor was the Open winner ahead of Wyn Hughes who dropped his bike on the 1st test. The event was the 1st round of the ACU Sidecar Championship & Ian & Steve Barnett took the win with John & David Sheard as runners up. Gary Parr won the 4T class - which was 3rd round of the Welsh 4T Championship - ahead of Craig Chadwick. Trefor Davies won the Clubman 2T & Andy Richardson won the Clubman 4T. ACU T&E Chairman John Collins put theory into practice & picked up an Over40 silver & the ageless Phil Wilkinson's Over40 silver time would have given him the runner up award in the Over50 class. Floyd Miles from Caerphilly MC won his 1st bronze at 52 & Bob Room - who should be sponsored by the manufacturer of his hip replacement - finished in the Trail bike class.
