Docklands raise their game.

Riders young and old rolled through the gates of Docklands Riders Track KG5 on a hot Sunday morning to take part in the 4th annual Docklands Riders Ride-a-thon.

Junior riders were set with a 50 lap target and youth and adult riders 100 laps. This would be quite a test on the hot and dusty track.

At 10:00am wheels started rolling with the young auto group. Proud parents stood watching, counting and eagerly ticking the lap scoring sheets as their young prodigies rode past.

By 11 o'clock the car park was full and overflowing onto the road and queues were starting to form at McGavin's burger bar, which had opened for business competing for attention from Tony's ice cream stall.

The youth group hit the track (sometimes literally) like stampeding Wildebeest, all dust and noise.

Adult riders were next out with a chance to try the Enduro-cross circuit, the varied abilities of the riders meant there was never a shortage of spectacular action to be seen from the crowded spectator bank.

At 3 o'clock a large appreciative crowd gathered to watch the few brave souls that dared enter the junior and youth trials final, some of these riders showed such flare and style over the obstacles on their MX bikes that they would have fared well in the Adult Enduro-cross challenge.

The Enduro-cross final was decided after a couple of qualifying heats and saw 6 guys lining up for the short run to their bikes for the Le Mans style start, the action was awesome and it was impossible to tell the leader until the final corner. The winning bike was an Archway Project Honda/KTM hybrid special complete with glove style air filter and very low pressure rear tyre.

Well done and thank you to everyone that took part.

All money raised will go towards much needed track maintenance.

Thanks also to all the sponsors: Acerbis UK - DNA Creative - Jim Aim Motorcycles - Kriega - Motoden - Paul Green Tyres for kindly donating all the goodies that made an excellent prize giving ceremony on Tony's fabulous podium.

Docklands Riders were pleased to host the latest round of the inter motor-project youth enduro challenge in East London.

Teams of young people from across London, the South East and Oxfordshire gathered to test themselves against the specially designed course which contained parts of the moto-x and enduro circuits of Track KG5.

The morning saw world traveller and keen motorcyclist Charlie Boorman start the riders on their 4 hour challenge which included a trials riding section and a specially devised mechanical competence test.

The conditions were ideal, with blue skies making a stark contrast from the torrential rain of the previous day which had left deep puddles of water and a slippery surface to make sure that riders were pushed to their limits.

An added bonus for the young riders was the expert advice on the trials section given by none other than Extreme Enduro riders: Chris Birch, Daryl Curtis and Riaan van Niekerk who had dropped in to Track KG5 to lend their support on their way to the Tough One.

After a gruelling days riding, Chris Birch presented the 1st Overall place trophy to the MXCP project from Dover.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making it such a great day and we look forward to the next round.

Docklands 100 Annual Ride-a-thon

The time has come onca again to thank all the riders, supporters and sponsors of The Docklands 100 Ride-a-thon who helped raise money for Track KG5.
Sunday dawned and although it had rained all night the weather on the day was great, leaving the track in perfect condition.

A good mixture of riders turned up with Dads, Mums, sisters and brothers with plenty of riding for all.

Autos and juniors were due to complete 50 laps of the circuit; this works out to be around 25km (a long way on a little bike around an MX track).
Youth and adults completed 100 laps, although Adults and some of the older youth riders
had the option of the Enduro-X circuit as well.

The timed lap competition for the adults became highly competitive between a handful of riders, culminating in a thrilling head-to-head race towards the end of the day which left one well known Dakar rider shaking his head in disbelief wondering how he came 2nd.

A few brave younger riders did the trials competition. A difficult section was set using obstacles on the enduro-x circuit that proved to be quite testing, especially on a Moto-x bike.

More laps of the track were then completed letting most riders reach the magic 100 or 50 laps as required. The day's final hour was saved for the lengthy prize giving such was the generosity of the sponsors. All participants received a certificate and many a prize, all while on the innovative Acerbis podium.
The end of the day saw a lot of tired, happy but dirty faces.

Thanks to everyone that turned up to show their support and to the sponsors: Acerbis, Motoden, Jim Aim Racing, DNA Creative, Paul Green tyres and Kriega.com

The awards went to:

Junior Trials:

1. Jemima Salt
2. Danny Bezzina
3. Zeb Bond

Youth Trials

2. Felix Austin Walker
2. Alfie Plumb Darrell

Adults Enduro-X

2. Nick Plumb
3. Ross Reddin

Docklands 100 Ride-a-thon

It's hard to believe that it's been a year since the last fund-raising Docklands 100 ride-a-thon at London's Track KG5 took place but as another 12 months have passed, plans are under way to hold the third edition on Sunday 12th July at Track KG5,

Docklands Riders have hosted the Ride-a-Thon since 2007 when they first took possession of the overgrown track and each year since then they have hosted the event for club members and adult riders alike.

Docklands Riders co-founder Dylan Evans said "The ride-a-thon has been a brilliant success for us, back in 2007 we used it as a way of clearing all the undergrowth from the Track after almost a year of not being used, it's getting to be a bit of a tradition now though and we look forward to seeing our club members and supporters again.

Since last years event Docklands Riders have built an entire enduro-cross circuit around the perimeter of the moto-x track, fellow co-founder Chris Salt constructed the course having competed in several extreme enduro races across the UK and Europe and it will feature in the Ride-a-thon for the first time.

With categories for riders of all ages and abilities the aim of the event is for riders to complete 100 laps (50 laps for junior members) of the moto-x track or 50 laps of the 50/50 circuit which incorporates half of the moto-x track and half of the enduro-cross circuit.

It promises to be a fun-packed day with a barbecue; refreshments, prizes for the most money raised and certificates for everyone that takes part. There will also be a simple trials competition for junior and youth riders and a timed enduro-cross trial for the adults. Spaces are limited, so if you want to take part please get in touch All money raised will be used to maintain the track and refurbish the changing rooms We'd like to thank everyone for their support especially and look forward to seeing you all there.
