European Enduro Championship

KORR rider Greg Evans made it THREE out of THREE E2 class wins in the European Enduro Championship

Another strong turnout of 15 Brits made the sweltering trip to Val Di Nizza, Italy for the 3rd round of the European Championships. With most of the riders arriving late on Wednesday it was an early start on Thursday to walk the tests before it got too hot. By 2.30pm all the work was complete and a trip to the Lido like pool opposite the hotel was a must. After a few hours relaxation dinner was enjoyed by all.

Friday morning and it was obviously going to be another scorcher, so some walked tests, before the now regular 10am meeting with our Jury member – this week John Collins. 3pm and it was our Nations turn for admin and technical – everyone was ready early as the thought of another cooling off beckoned (below).

A 9am start on Saturday, with 3 x 52km laps. Two time checks, 1 in the paddock and one out, 3 tests - 1 cross, 1 enduro and 1 extreme, which ran alongside the paddock. Off the start it was straight into the extreme test (untimed on the first lap) a good few obstacles to start then a run down a rocky stream. The cross test came next and then onto to the first time check. With an hour of riding and 2 tests behind them the cold drinks were very welcome. Then the enduro test was next (untimed on the first lap) – a vey long 8minutes plus, climb up a single steep track with sheer drops along much of it before the equally steep drop back down. From there it was back to the extreme test and service check 2 for the end of the lap. Unfortunately, we had 3 riders retire on the first day all with mechanical problems, two - Jamie Paget and Aaran Poolman were able to get sorted and start the second day,but Jamie Burroughs was not so lucky. All the riders were suffering with the heat which reached 45degrees in the afternoon. As all riders were finished by 5.30pm another visit to the pool was this time seen as part of the recovery. Even with live results on the web, John Collins visit with confirmed results on paper was welcomed as several riders were posting good test times.

Sundays course was the same but with all tests timed. James Jackman suffered mechanical problems today and had to retire, but it was great to see him and Jamie offering help and encouragment to the other boys at the tests. Despite the heat, all the Brits rode well, earning some more good points towards the overall championship.

A big thank you to all the helpers this weekend who between them gave out more than 200 bottles of water to the British riders.

Greg's Report

The final round of the championship is in Oliveira do Hospital, Portugal will be on on 9,10,11th September.

European Enduro Championship 1/2nd May - Boussac France
Brits win @ Boussac

Report by Kay Evans

21 British riders arrived to hot and sunny welcome in Boussac france for the 1st round of the UEM championships on Wednesday. Those staying on the local campsite were greeted by the Naked receptionist and quickly realised that the rumours of a Naturist camp were TRUE.

Thursday was spent walking the 3 tests a few laps around the practice track and final preparations for the event.

On Friday admin and technical was done by Nation at set times which left plenty of time for the riders to Re-walk tests. The opening Parade left the paddock at 6pm and after the short walk to the Town Square the organisers had laid on a Trials Exhibition. Dinner and an early night was had by all.

We were woke by the forecasted rain on Saturday morning but this cleared quite quickly. The 9am start took the riders straight to the extreme/cross test then time check 1. From there it was in to the Enduro test which was untimed on the first lap, then into Cross test2 and back to time check 2 in the paddock. The day was to consist of 5 x 52km laps with 3 tests per lap . All the British riders had a good day finishing on time and without any major mishaps.

Sunday was another wet start with some heavy showers throughout the day. A 9.30 start and 4 laps was welcomed by all. A difficult hill in the enduro test was shortened but everything else stayed the same. Joe Deakin was the only casualty with a sore back caused by a slip on day 1.

There were some impressive test times from the British riders and congratulations to them all. Also well done and thanks to the support crew.

Good start to British European Enduro campaign

  KORR Report
Banking some good Results

Bank holiday weekend brings more success for all KORR pilots on their KTM's, Greg Evans and James Giddings traveled out to the first round of the European Enduro championship and Daryl Bolter stayed at home to train in the sand for the next BEC and race a local MX.

Round 1 of the European Enduro championship was held in Boussac, France this last weekend, the course was considered very easy with lots of road work and little to challenge the riders but the special tests made up for the easy track. Greg had a very successful weekend and each day topped the E2 Senior class on his KTM 305 EXC-F and on Sunday only just missed out on the overall event win because of a crash in the last extreme test. James made his international debut in France and had 2 great rides in the E1 Junior class to finish 20th and 23rd respectively and was the top British rider in the class.

Daryl's weekend was also successful as he won all 3 Moto's at a local motocross race on his KTM250 EXC-F.

Greg Evans “The last month has been really good for me, since getting my new 305 motor everything is just starting to click, after the recent Sprint race I was sure I could come to France and have a good result. The only problem I had in France was concentrating, the course was too easy and quite boring and a couple of tests I made mistakes because of loss of concentration, shame because I felt on Sunday I could have taken the overall win. Anyway onto the next event now and I am really looking forward to next weekend in Scotland, Rd 2 of the BEC “

Julian Stevens “ As a team we have really been working as hard as time and our budget allows recently, a combination of lots of testing and riding premier Enduro events against good competition has helped the riders and their machines reach a new level, we go to round 2 of the BEC in Scotland with allot of confidence. A big thanks to everyone in the team for the effort they have shown and to all our dedicated sponsors who help us with great technical products”.

  Husqvarna Uk Report
Wakely makes strong start to ’10 European Enduro Championship

Husqvarna UK rider Si Wakely has made a positive start to his participation in the ’10 European Enduro Championship placing third and fourth in the competitive Senior Enduro 1 class at the opening round of the series staged in Boussac, central France. Following on from his impressive results in both the British Enduro Championship opener and the first four rounds of the British Enduro Sprint Championship, Wakely now sits equal third in the Senior E1 championship standings.

Despite previous events held in and around Boussac being anything but easy the first round of the ’10 EEC wasn’t a particularly challenging one despite light rain during the start of day one. With three special tests each lap – one enduro, one motocross and one extreme – a total of five laps on day one and four laps on day two ensured competition was close in all classes.

Claiming his best result on day one Si placed third on his TE250 behind Frenchmen Sylvain Lebrun and Adrian Metge. With competition at the top of the Senior E1 class fierce, Si managed to finish ahead of Enduro World Championship regular Goncalo Reis from Portugal, as well as several other world championship riders.

Despite dropping one position on day two and finishing fourth in class Si again rode well throughout the day. With a broken rear security bolt slowing his pace slightly towards the end of the day Si missed third by 27 seconds. Performing consistently throughout the day’s 12 special tests, Wakely also finished 11th overall and ended the event pleased with his performances.

Si’s next event will be the second round of the British Enduro Championship, the Grampian Enduro, held in Scotland this coming weekend.

Si Wakely: ‘Finishing third in class on both days would have been great but third on day one and fourth on day two is a brilliant start to the championship. It was a really good weekend. Not the hardest race, but I enjoyed it. The European championship seems to be stronger than ever this year, which is great. I didn’t have any big problems during the event but I broke a security bolt on day two, which slowed me down a little towards the end of the day. I made a few mistakes on some of the tests, but it seems most riders did. All in all it’s been a fantastic event.’

Round 1 Boussac, France
1st & 2nd May

Following several weeks of good results the Midwest Husaberg Uk enduro team arrived in France for the first round of the European Enduro Championships on Thursday.

The 9am start took the riders straight to the extreme/cross test then time check 1. From there it was in to the Enduro test which was un-timed on the first lap, then into Cross test2 and back to time check 2 in the paddock. The day was to consist of 5 x 52km laps with 3 tests per lap. All Midwest Husaberg UK team riders had good results on both days all scoring points in there classes.

Team rider Ollie Moyce, (left) who was the highest placed Husaberg rider said "I was very excited going into the first round of the European Championship in France as I had been riding well in recent competitions and was very comfortable with the FE390. The whole weekend went very well for me and apart from losing out on 3rd place on the 2nd day I had no major dramas at all. I was consistently up the front of the class with test times and even winning one or 2 which has done wonders for my confidence. I am now running joint 3rd in the points and will be hoping to improve on that in the next round."

Other good news was the team were 4th in the team event.
