Knight runs out of fuel at Le Touquet

Red Bull KTM Off Road Team rider David Knight disappointingly failed to finish the second running of the Le Touquet Enduropale when his factory KTM ran out of fuel during the second hour of the race. Having started well Knight was comfortably placed within the top 10 following the first round of fuel stops but his race came to a premature end shortly before the two-hour mark of the race when his bike ran dry. Despite his best efforts to return to the pits to get more fuel Knighter was unable to finish the race.

During the first hour of the Enduropale Knighter was placed well within the top 10, climbing as high as sixth at one stage having closed in on the fifth placed rider, and looked set for a top six finish. Remaining inside the top 10 after his first pit stop Knight was jostling for positions between fifth and seventh when his bike ran out of fuel.

David will now fly to Florida, USA for one week of testing with his Red Bull KTM Off Road Team ahead of the first round of the US GNCC series, which takes place at Vero Beach, Florida on March 6

David Knight: “It’s extremely disappointing not to have finished the Le Touquet Enduropale because KTM put a huge amount of work into the preparing for the race, but running out of fuel is one of those things that can happen during a beach race – it’s so hard to work out exactly how much fuel will get used during each session.

“The first hour of the race went well. My plan was to finish the event with as good a result as possible. I knew beating the regular podium finishers would be tough, and that to run with them I’d have to take chances during the opening laps. But I wasn’t prepared to do that - winning the US GNCC series is my priority so I rode at my own pace during the first hour and felt good.

“The frustrating thing is that when I stopped for fuel the first time there was about five litres of fuel still in my bike’s tank. I felt stronger as the race went on and was confident that I could pick up places during the final hour of the race. The track was extremely rough but I liked it. I was enjoying myself when my bike ran out of fuel. I tried to get back to the pits to get some fuel in the hope of finishing inside the top 10 but I couldn’t. It’s certainly not the way I’d hoped the race would finish but like I said it can happen.”
