Radnor

CENTRAL WALES AUTO CLUB
RADNOR RALLY
20TH SEPTEMBER 2009

A 27 mile lap of spectacular going around the Radnor Forest with 2 tests per lap. The pastures of Stud Farm was a beautiful location for a start area & several riders took the opportunity to camp overnight. The clear early autumn weather was perfect.

The start was at 10.00am. Rider #1 - Brian Eland - arrived with less than 10 minutes to get unloaded & kitted up after a high speed blow out on the motorway. He made the line on time but sensibly chose to follow rider #2 - Clerk of the Course Mark Vaughan - who knows his way around the Radnor Forest. Brian had to return to his van 20 minutes later to replace his rear wheel after another blow out. Fortunately there were no route penalties.

Craig Bounds was competing in the Trail class on his BMW. He fronted "the Welsh Team has talent" ISDE fundraiser at Penybont Community Centre on the previous night. Gwyn Probert had a close shave, Dylan Jones was in the building & Clive Brick was in drag. Craig was presented with an inflatable companion for those lonely nights in the desert which could come in handy as an emergency inner tube.

Si Pavey (pictured right with Dave Vaughan) was a late entry & he waltzed his GS1300 around the woods at the rear - sweeping up the field - on slick tyres. The thought of Si's BMW at the back with it's bash bars was a real incentive for the slower riders to up their pace. .

Mark Vaughan & Jonathan Williams needed no incentive. They were in a class of their own & they were the only riders to break the 6 minute test barrier. Mark won the Premier & Jonathan (pictured above) was the runner up.

Craig Bounds was 3rd & won the Trail Bike class on his BMW 650.

Brian Eland's chunky new Mitas helped him take 4th & win the Over 40s

Jim Jones continues to prove that petrol is the only true elixir of life. He celebrated his 71st birthday on Wednesday & picked up a silver.

A small but enthusiastic entry had an unforgettable day. Don't forget your entry next year.
