Houson lazers the opposition in Abram win The ride xc crew after months of planning the new lazer xc series, set new standards at Abram near Wigan with a superb track that was power harrowed over the Friday and Saturday to perfection the result was 5 miles of xc racing at its best. With only a week to get the track at Abram up to this meticulous standard because of the wet condition at the planned opening round at the leisure lakes the ride xc crew worked themselves to the bone to completed the track in time and deliver something special. With the entry limited due to car parking ,it was full. realizing accurate timing is what the riders want, ride xc brought in a specialist timing team with transponders to avoid guessing muddy numbers and the frustrating queuing while number are wiped after all it a race not a car wash!!. Sunday started with some amazing spring sunshine after what seems the longest winter ever. Having keen quad riders within their ranks ride XC set there stall out through winter to run a quad championship in 2010 to complement the solo series and this was repaid with a large quad entry. And with the usual ride xc precision the quad race started bang on 10 am as starter Justin Wilson set the race in motion the riders blasted away in bright spring sunshine the omens were smiling on the ride xc crew as weeks of hard work was starting to pay off, expert John Robson Yamaha lead through the early stages and set the fastest lap but the hard charging Durham based David Baldwin eventually pushed to the front on his Anderson Suzuki ,keeping in touch in third was Andy warren on the pork racing KTM, these 3 started to pull away from the rest of the field . Matt Holmes was going well in the early stages on his Craig's ktm but dropped out as the race at the half way point . as the race drew towards the latter stages robson in second unexpectedly retired allowing Andy warren into second and Trevor Sykes moved into third spot, the race finished David Baldwin 1 Andy warren 2nd Trevor Sykes 3rd. Things were close in the clubman class with Monty Jones the winner from Chris Comer and Naill Johnson 3rd, in the sportsman /novice class we had an international flavour in the form of the winner Portuguese rider Tiago Gomes Calderia took a clear win from Keith Everitt with Greg Hough in third , big thanks to all the quad rider for supporting this event As the presentation for the quads was under way the solos were lined up and ready for the off attracting a good expert line up the winner was going to be hard to pick with the likes of Martin Sandiford, Graham Jarvis, + the revitalized Gavin Houson. The Biffstar, Harry Hillas, and Tom Healey Jason Crossland just to name a few . starter Justin Wilson once again set the race in motion , the experts/040 front line were off at a furious pace and Simon Bastow took the RAS sport hole shot but his lead was short lived and moving quickly to the front was harry hillas on a Craig's ktm hillas pushed for a few laps increasing his lead over Graham Jarvis before a carb problem forced his retirement Jarvis was to lead only briefly as he to encountered problems and retired , Martin Sandiford now took up the lead, and held the lead for around an hour on his Sandiford Gas Gas, but in second place smooth and controlled Gavin Houson looked like a man revitalized onboard the Craig's KTM exc 250 soon Gav and Martin were dicing for the lead swapping the lead for around half an hour before Gavin dug deep into his reserves and pushed for the win, Gavin Houson 1st Martin Sandiford 2nd David Woods 3rd. In the 040 Ian Coburn was the winner from John Lofthouse with the hole shot winner Simon Bastow having to settle for 3rd Kevin Seward won the clubman class Liam Ward second showing that despite not riding much over the last year or so he has still got what it takes , a good performance from young Jack Colley to take third. The sportsman class victory went to Stuart Thompson with Sam Alderman second and Darren Hey third . as the riders filtered away i managed a few words from Gav Houson the expert winner he wanted to thank Mick Seward for his time with him and his mps team and the experience gained has been fantastic , but now i am moving into another chapter with support from Craig's motorcycles Dewsbury, PJ1 oil, and a few other sponsors i will be riding selected events this including Ride xc ,Dirtbike-action , Neec, Bec and some European rounds . The ride XC crew were pleased to see the riders were delighted with the opening round of the lazer XC championship with many expressing their thanks for a superb event. the ride xc team learnt a lot from this event especially the quad race were the riders used a new type of credit card transponder this resulted in super fast accurate lap scoring this technology will now include the solos at the next round leisure lakes 4 April a big thanks to all the riders and marshals see you at the leisure lakes.
