FMF JUNIOR HARE SCRAMBLES 2008 ROUND 3 @ MAESHAFN, MOLD.

"Gethin, Joe, Dominic and Jack take the honours at round 3!" REPORT G.TURNER PICS BY CETRA EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY.

"Beautiful summer conditions greeted the young Cross Country riders as they took on the 3rd round of the superb FMF JUNIOR HARE SCRAMBLES championship of 2008. This six round series is now half way through and is proving to be e resounding success with riders and parents alike enjoying the safe and professional racing that WOR Events provide.

The race ran for 1 and a half hours and on the bumpy, dusty and demanding Maeshafn circuit it was certainly a case of well done to all the young riders taking part.

In the up to 65cc class it was once again the flying little Jack Edmondson that took a comprehensive class victory from runner up, Brad Edwards. Third place went to Joe Smith. Both Edwards and Smith were on 8 laps, Edmondson completed 9. Fair play considering the length of the lap was over 4 miles.

The small wheeled 85cc group was topped by Dominic Thomas (above) as he coasted to the win from a very Jet lagged Charlie Nichols. Nichols did very well to take the runner spot after just returning from a family holiday in Florida. Out on his new bike was Sion Skinner, and what a ride he had collecting his first trophy and podium appearance. Well done Sion.

Joe Wootton (left) had to chase down Simon Jones in the 85cc big wheelers to get the lead. Jones held the lead for a fair distance before Wootton got into his stride and started picking his very intelligent lines and using his very impressive corner speed. Come the end of the race Joe had took a 3 minute lead over Simon. The final rostrum placing went to the flying Kawasaki of young Sophie Thomas (above) . Always on the pace and revving her green machine to it peak, young Sophie can never be accused of letting the boys have their own way.

In the big group, the up to 150 cc's, it was that young man Gethin Humphries that took the win. Almost cruising around the circuit knowing he was leading had the strong young Welshman over 1 and a half minutes clear of runner up Adam Barrat at the end of the 90 minutes. Bronze went to Morgan Lewis with another determined ride on his KTM 125.

With the conditions being so dry and hot all these riders really excelled in their efforts and fully deserved their finisher's medals at the chequered flag. Results

The series point's standings are now out (www.worevents.com) and with the championship at its half way phase there is still some great racing to be had at the remaining 3 rounds. The next round is on 5th July in Powys.

"Once again a very well supported line of kids took part in this new FMF Junior Hare Scramble event. This was round 2 of the six round series and the setting and weather could not have been better. Starting at 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon the up to 65cc class were given a 2.2 mile circuit with 1.5hrs to go at it. The bigger cc bike likes the 85cc's and the up to 150 group were given 2 hours and the full 5.5mile loop. What a hare scramble it turned out to be with both the kids and the parents leaving the event at the end having thoroughly enjoyed them selves. There is no doubt the stunning weather coupled with the awesome setting helped influence those smiles though.

The racing was superb with all of the little off road warriors taking the challenging, rocky downhill by the finish in their stride, even the bumpy, whooped out climb from the paddock had mini" David Knights" flying over the tops of them, it was all good stuff. In the 65cc group, just like at round 1 it Jack Edmondson (right) that took the honours with a clear lap victory over 2nd placed Brad Edwards. With a surname like Edmondson and a family of off road legends for a dad and an uncle, little Jack is under a bit of pressure before he starts!!! Not that you would know though as he carefully selected his lines and got faster as the race wore on. Brad in second place took a five minute advantage over bronze podium placed Jack Fewings. It has to be said though all of those little 65 cc riders did brilliantly in the heat and on such a mountainous course to battle the full 1.5hrs.

Onto the 85cc small wheelers and taking 3rd place was Katie Walker with a solid ride. Runner up went to Charlie Nichols with another podium ride and the class win went to Devon based Dominic Thomas on his Kawasaki KX85. Dominic almost pulling a complete 5 miles on Nichols, although Charlie did have some problems earlier on. The big wheeler 85's had a right battle going on. First off Bryn Phillips secured a solid third place from Richard Bleasdale in 4th but at the sharp end Simon Jones (left) and Joe Wootton were having a right old scrap with Jones hounding Wootton for the entire 2hrs. In the end seconds separated them and Wootton was victorious with a 14 second advantage. Great racing.

Finally in the big up to 150cc group it was that man Gethin Humphries again that stormed to a near 3 minute advantage over Josh Snowden. Both Humphries and Snowden were riding years ahead of their age and will defiantly be stars of the future. The 3rd placed trophy went to the always competitive Morgan Lewis. All the top 3 did 9 laps. This second round went really well and all eyes are now on the next round in June on 7th at the awesome Maeshfn venue near Mold.

"KIDS RIP IT UP AT ROBINS"

RD 1 FMF JUNIOR HARE SCRAMBLE SERIES…ROBINS MOUNTAIN, ABERGELE….12TH APRIL 2008. Words by G.Turner.

"Last Saturday saw the return of a junior specific Hare Scramble series into the already very busy WOR Events schedule. FMF the famous American exhaust manufactures are behind this series and are offering up some great prizes come the end of the 6 round series. Lovely conditions and weather greeted the riders and family's and a perfect 3.4 mile circuit was laid out and ready for them including all the best flowing bits of this awesome coast line venue.

The 65cc class did a slightly smaller lap than the bigger bikes, the reason for this was on the grounds of safety the smaller machines where not allowed near the deep man made lakes that this venue has in abundance. Jack Edmondson (above), eldest son of World Enduro legend Paul "Fast Eddy" Edmondson was simply unstoppable in this group and led from start to finish with a style and determination very similar indeed to his father and proving that the genes in that family have been passed on. Runner up in the 65cc's was Joe Smith and third went to Brad Edwards albeit Smith and Edwards being a lap down on Edmondson.

There are 2 groups in the 85cc category, one for the big wheelers and one for the small. 85cc Big wheel winner was Joe Wootton, once again riding his bike with a maturity and style well beyond his years. Joe was nearly 3.5mins clear of his rivals come the end of the 1.75hr event. Simon Jones (son of WOR Stalwart Neil) was a fully deserved silver medallist in second place with the hard charging young Lady Sophie Thomas in the bronze position only 8 seconds behind Jones' flying Yamaha. Sophie is one of the best female riders out there and she also deserves a special mention for the riding technique and effort that she displays whilst keeping the throttle pinned on her little green Kawasaki.

Sophie's little brother, Dominic made the long journey from Devon well worthwhile with a convincing 5 minute cushion over second placed Charlie Nichols in the small wheel 85cc class. Third went to Dan Bewlay who completed a spirited 9 laps.

Top honours on the up to 150cc machines went to the strong Welshman, Gethin Humphries. Gethin managed to sneak in another lap from runner up, Adam Barrat and third placed Huw Jones. To be fair these three riders were really on the pace and looked like seasoned pro's as they negotiated the fantastic flowing circuit with all the skill and speed of adult experts.

As the chequered flag came out at the end and the youngsters were given their finishing medals the heavens opened and the rain came down with such menace that the presentation had to be done under a awning kindly supplied by the awning company but the wet stuff could not effect the grinning youngsters as this series had just got off to a cracking start. With no injuries and a super safe circuit the kids and parents alike had had a very enjoyable day and were keen to secure their places in the 2nd round on May 10th. For more details visit www.worevents.com
