Other News WOR race organisation is proud to announce a new link and sponsorship deal with John Lampkin, the Beta UK importer….providing Steve Ireland and his team with some four stroke enduro machinery and trials irons for marshalling duties… Wor's links with John Shirt and Gas Gas are still firm and both brands will now be promoted by Steve and WOR. After a meeting to secure the deal last week steve said " I'm really looking forward to helping John Lampkin promote this brand and the 4t bike is really awesome with all the top notch kit on it including that proven ktm engine…it just needs noticing a bit more and hopefully WOR can do that for the importers, I've always been a four stoke fan and rider and although I love my Gas Gas 300 2t having the new Beta 450 at my disposal is great, I intend to help push the bike best I can and test rides will be available at regular opportunities at WOR events and training days…it's great that WOR are establishing links with the likes of Gas Gas and Beta and it shows that we have a good promotional tool in the respect that we can help provide "seat of the pants " try outs for all our customers whether they fancy the 4stoke Beta or a 2t Gas Gas…we have them for the people to try." John Lampkin said" it's a big thing for us to get involved with Steve and WOR as they are well known in the enduro/offroad market, I'm really pleased that the betas will be out there getting some promotion at the superb WOR events and after attending the "Tough One" in February this year I'm 100% confident and delighted to provide WOR with some machinery as they really are a professional outfit, I'm also confident in the beta 4 stroke as being a real good bike and will suit Steve as he has always loved fourstokes"….. WOR Weekend SATURDAY Round 4 of the Kids WOR/GB Quads Hare ScrambIe championship returned to the venue used previousIy for the soIo championship round 3 - Penybontfawr in Powys on Saturday 3rd September - giving the Quad riders an opportunity to sampIe this superb venue The weekend kicked off with the kids Quads, under 10's and under 12's and despite the pIeasant summer weather enjoyed by the rest of the UK, they began their race shrouded in mist and Iow cIoud. Despite the poor visibiIity and the very sIippery conditions, the youngsters handIed everything that was thrown at them. In the under 10's Sam BaiIey estabIished a Iead from the fIag and graduaIIy puIIed away to finish on 13 Iaps, a Iap ahead of previous round winner Adam BIythen with Jamie Morgan in third just over one minute behind Adam. Jack Pierce in fourth spot managed 11 Iaps. Rhys Davies took the under 12's cIass finishing a Iap cIear of Jak Griffiths in second spot. Danny IIoyd took third, managing to get in a creditabIe eIeven Iaps, a Iap up on Jack Roebuck in fourth. The BIaster cIass was combined with the Over 12's for the second race of the day. Iewis Burns charged away into an earIy Iead and despite the best efforts of the chasing pack, heId on to compIete 10 Iaps and take the win, with Rhys Guest Ieading the chasing bunch ahead of AshIey McConneII and Iiam RydeII aII on 10 Iaps and separated by just over 4 minutes. Emma BIythen dominated the 12 and over cIass, finishing a Iap cIear of Matt Jones with sister Sara rounding off a good day for the BIythen famiIy with the finaI podium pIace. The afternoon AduIt race, sponsored by KIK ATV, provided a very cIose race with the top four aII finishing on the same Iap with just a few minutes between them. PauI Horwood did just enough to take poIe position with 17 Iaps, foIIowed home by Eddie BeIton, David Buchan and Keith EIIiott. ResuIts: KIK ATV Quad GBHS Rd4 Junior Quad GBHS Rd4 Junior Quad (BIasters) SUNDAY Sunday morning saw WOR's first 4-hour race of the year over the same Iap as used by the aduIt quads the previous afternoon. As a new innovation, Steve IreIand spIit the race into two haIves of 2 hours each - with a Iunch break in-between. Andy Cripps (Ieft) dominated proceedings; taking wins in both races - ahead of Shaun Turner in race one and Iincon Brewster in race 2 to seaI the open cIass category. Turner took the runners up spot as Brewster non finished race one, whiIe a consistent Craig Chadwick took third in both races to take that position overaII. It was a simiIar story in CIubman A with Darren Hamson Ieading home Russ Unwin in both races, whiIe the CIubman B cIass saw young AshIey Fox take the prize with a win the second race to go with his third overaII in the morning. He Ied home Euros Jones who took two second pIaces and morning race winner Ben Wootton who couId onIy manage a firth in the afternoon race. Season Iong rivaIs CoIin Jones and Gareth IIoyd continued to do battIe in the Veterans cIass with Jones taking two wins and IIoyd two runners up pIaces. Steve Jones took third in both races and overaII, whiIe the Iarge sportsman cIass saw two different winners of the individuaI races - Steve DudIey and Andy WiIson. Both were however beaten by the consistency of Daz Cowan, who's second and third pIace finishes were enough to give him the win on aggregate. Ivan Pick foIIowed him home whiIe DudIey took third from WiIson by one point. ResuIts 4hr part 1 4hr part 2 OveraII Photos avaiIabIe from Sportpixs 2005 WOR/Motul GB Hare Scramble Championship - final round - 7th August Having made the long journey from Scotland to north Wales, 19 year old Ricky Mair produced a stunning ride to take his Safe Access KTM 125sx to take overall victory and the Open class on the 5th and final round of the 2005 WOR/Motul GB Hare Scramble Championship, held at Robins Mount, nr Abergele on Saturday and Sunday 6th and 7th August 2005. Steve Ireland and his WOR team had put together a lap of slightly over 6 miles, using the excellent selection of fast farm tracks at the venue, together with a couple of very twisty forest sections which slowed lap times to 12 minutes plus for the open class, 20 minutes plus for the clubmen. By the Sunday afternoon race, conditions had dried out sufficiently to bring dust into the equation - while the welcome summer sunshine also sapped riders' energy. Having sealed the overall championship, Ryan Voase decided to skip the final round, but in his absence, the Open class produced a wonderfully competitive race. D3 KTM rider Justin Wilson took the lead from the flag, chased by Andy Cripps on his regular KB Racing Gas Gas. Cripps however had injured his knee in sealing the WOR evening Championship and the effects of this, coupled with his 'delicate' state after a family wedding meant he was never able to give 100% and he gradually fell back behind the charging Mair and ET James Kawasaki mounted Tim Foreman. By lap two Wilson had a lead of almost a minute on the field, but one circuit later, Mair had cut this back to 40 seconds. As the re-fuelling stops took effect, Foreman passed Mair and Wilson lead the pack, but Mair's total commitment was rewarded when he re-took the lead and gradually put some distance between himself and Foreman to eventually take the win by 1 minute 22 seconds after 15 hard laps. Second place on the day allowed Foreman to leapfrog Cripps into second place for the championship - although level on points, Foreman took the place as a consequence of a higher number of podium places than Cripps. Behind Mair, Tim Foreman managed to hold on to second place by just 2 seconds from the fast-charging Justin Wilson - while almost unnoticed, the super-fit veteran rider Jack Twentyman, who travelled to all the way from Dorset - slipped ahead on Cripps to take 4th place, over 5 minutes behind Wilson. It was also good to see Martin Sandiford back out and about on a bike and looking quick and stylish in his 'marshalling' role following his recent big knee operation. Chris Whitefield took the Clubman A class on 14 laps ahead of Ben Newbould and Geoff Dale, while Adam Smith led home the Clubman B class ahead of young Ashley Fox with Drew Harvey a further lap behind in third. Surprise of the day came in the veterans class with newcomer Mick Kendall taking the spoils, followed home by Simon Pavey - who also completed the morning event on his 'Dakar' BMW, season long rivals Colin Jones and Gareth Lloyd taking third and fourth. Previous round winner Ben Wooton once again headed the Sportsman class on 13 laps, finishing almost 7 minutes clear of second place Mike Leary, who was in turn a lap ahead of John McLeod. The day began with a 90 - minute "intro" event over the same lap as the afternoon Open event with classes for Novice, Beginners, Youths and Ladies. Matt Holcombe put in a dominating, flag to flag ride to win the Sportsman class, finishing almost 10 minutes clear of second place Glenn Bennett with the ever consistent Darren Cowan in third after each had completed 7 laps. Steve Murphy led home the beginners and took an incredible second place overall ahead of Andrew Knoakley and Phil Johnson, while the ever-competitive Youth class saw the closest finish of the day with the top three riders separated by 20 seconds, Luke White leading home Ryan Stavely and Joe Jones. The beginners class saw a clear win for John Birchall who finished on 7 laps, one ahead of runner-up Dylan Taylor and third placed John Jones, while Junior GB Hare Scramble regular, young Sophie Thomas led home the ladies class followed by Rachael Davies and Debbie Heald. As with all WOR/Motul GB Hare Scramble rounds, the weekends are double-headers, kicking off on Saturday morning with the junior riders. Four classes divided the riders; Under 8's, Under 10's, Under 12 and 12 and over. The Under 8's and Under 10's were first off for 90 minutes and the course proved to be fast going as Jordan Pyne led the Under 8's in his usual style. Jordan has won every round of the series bar the first round and there was little dispute that he really deserved the Champions title. Jordan finished some two laps ahead of closest rival Henry Williams who took second place in the race and second in the Championship. These two had had some really interesting battles throughout the series. Jack Pierce had a great ride to take third spot just ahead of Daniel McKennel in fourth. Daniel did have the consolation of knowing he had taken third overall in the Championship. In the Under 10's Davey Todd was untouchable. He had won the last three rounds of the series and victory in the final round would give him the Championship. He took first place a lap ahead of Charlie Nichols in second and two laps ahead of Ayrton Aldridge in third to secure the Championship title. Joe Wooton's fourth place gave him a two-point advantage and third place in the Championship, over Dominic Thomas who could only manage sixth in the race and fourth overall in the series. At Midday the Under 12's and 12 and over blasted off for an hour and three-quarters. In the Under 12's Ryan Staveley and Steve Holcombe were neck and neck in the series but Ryan pulled out all the stops to take first place while Steve could only manage 6th spot on the day and second overall in the series. Jordan Eynon nearly put a spanner in the works finishing just 5 seconds behind Ryan but the best Jordan could take was fourth overall in the series while Gareth Lee took third in the race and third in the Championship. Steve Holcombe's sixth place gave him the Championship runner up place. The 12 and over class was really close. By the end of the race just a single point gave Joe Jones the Champions title. Joe took fifth place on the day while his closest rival, Matt Holcombe, went all out to take the title but could only manage second place on the day and second place in the Championship but just one point divided them. Anthony Smith's third place in the race gave him third in the Championship, only four points behind Matt Holcombe. This years WOR/Motul GB Hare Scramble Championship has been an outstanding success and Steve Ireland would like to thank all the parties who have helped him and his WOR team build this championship to it's present high standards - particularly Motul as the headline sponsor. Although the championship is over for this year, Steve now turns his attention to the 'Bala Big One' in September - a 3 - lap enduro with a £1,000 prize to the winner, plus the regular two events a month WOR organise year-round. Results Adults Sunday pics as usual from http://www.sportpixs.co.uk Saturday from www.foto-x.co.uk WOR - Pivotpegz Evening Hare Scramble - 27TH July 2005 In a repeat of the first round, Andy Cripps once again took overall victory on the second and final round of the 2005 WOR - Pivot Pegs Evening Hare scramble championship - but not without a fright as runner-up Justin Wilson (below) closed to within 14 seconds of Cripps (left) at the flag. Steve Ireland utilized the same venue as used the previous weekend, the Llwyn Ynn Hall estate on the outskirts of Ruthin, but included some subtle changes to the lap making more use of the river - and despite the torrential rain experienced during Sunday's race, dust was again a problem during the early laps. Cripps led the field of 70+ riders away from the start on his KB Racing Gas Gas with D3 KTM rider Wilson and Paul Herbert in hot pursuit. By lap 4 Cripps had a lead of over 30 seconds as Wilson suffered a misfiring bike exciting the river section - which was a good 3 feet deep in places, but as the race reached the two-hour mark, Wilson began to cut Cripps' lead, eventually running out of time as the flag fell. Herbert took third, a lap behind the leaders with young Jamie Lutas taking a superb 4th place overall. The ever-competitive vets class had two new names to add to the mix - with brothers Ian and Steve Barnett taking on the regular protagonists Colin Jones and Gareth Lloyd. Ian Barnett eventually took the honours on 18 laps, one clear of Jones with Lloyd 4 and a half minutes further in arrears. Tom Cockshot took the Clubman A class ahead of Paul Davies and Rory Preston while Chris Whitfield repeated his first round win, beating young Ashley Fox by only 8 seconds to take the Clubman B class with Euros Jones third. Another first round winner - John Roberts sealed the clubman class on 16 laps, ahead of Jamie Robinson and Rob McLeod. Results Pictures available from http://www.sportpixs.co.uk WOR Enduro at Lynn Ynn Hall by tim@foto-x.co.uk The little known Lynn Ynn Hall estate, nestled between Wrexham and Ruthin, turned out to be a fantastic new venue for the WOR Enduro last weekend. The ruined old Hall sits in magnificent grounds, which offer a variety of terrain second to none. The paddock and camping areas were perfect, although in such a splendid setting it did look as if the Hall had been invaded for the weekend, by New Age travellers. Sunday's event was well attended, as is usual with all WOR fixtures, and was split into two races. The Beginners, Novice, Youth, Ladies and half the Sportsman all set off for 90 minutes in the morning while the Open class, Clubman A&B, Veterans and Sportsman took off for two hours in the afternoon. The course was extended significantly from the previous day's quad course, many more twisty bits in the wooded areas but the rocky dry stream bed, flat and fast open fields, jumps water splashes and drop offs all remained the same. The morning race saw dry weather throughout and it was fast going for all the riders. On the start line Paul Handley, in the Novice class, sat astride his Honda 250F Automatic. No gear selector, no foot brake, instead there was a brake lever on the left side of the bars, leaving him with a free foot, or two! It would be interesting to see how he went with this new conversion. In the Beginners class Jason Carter eked out a lap to take first place with eleven laps, one up on Paul Holmes in second spot. Paul had Dylan Taylor hot on his heels just seconds behind in third place just over seven minutes clear of Pete Curtis in foureth and David Davies in fifth. In the Novice section Paul Handley's Auto conversion paid dividends. He took first in class and said afterwards that he never stalled throughout the race, usually he would have around a dozen stalls but found it impossible with the Honda Auto and additionally the bar mounted rear brake lever was a real blessing, leaving his feet free in the tricky woodland bits. Phil Johnson in second place gave Paul a hard time and finished just a minute behind him. Neal Trickett, also on eleven laps, took third while Dave Calkin on ten laps, took fourth with Paul Ikin fifth, just 15 seconds behind. Just two Ladies had entered so finishing the race would ensure a trophy. Rose Disney (left) nailed nine laps to take top spot with Jane Widdowson second on five laps. The Youth class saw the top six riders all finish on 10 laps with just 8 minutes between them. Jamie Robinson pulled seven minutes clear of the chasing five to take first place with Matt Citrine second and Gareth Lee third. George Knowles nicked 13 seconds over Darren Roberts to put them fifth and sixth respectively. The Sportsman class was also very close. Emrys Price taking first just 40 seconds ahead of Gary Roberts in second. Darren Cowen took third with 11 laps, one lap up on Gary Wolstenholme, fourth and Stephen Thornton in fifth. The afternoon race took off for two hours bang on schedule at 12 noon. The first hour was fast and clean but then the heavens opened half way through and the going got really tough in the tree with exposed roots creating havoc. Ian Smart (top left) and Carwyn Humphreys battled for supremacy in the Open class but by the end of two hours only three and a half minutes separated the top five riders, all on 16 laps. Ian took first over Carwyn by just over a minute. Third placed Shaun Turner was only 13 seconds ahead of Pete Lightfoot in fourth with Gas Gas mounted Craig Chadwick fifth. Alex Nichols took the Clubman A class but only just. Second placed Paul Davies was just 30 seconds adrift with Ifan Roberts third and Simon Douglas fourth. Ash Martin took fifth but was five laps off the leader. Clubman B saw Mark Barton finish first with two minutes to spare over Euros Jones, riding his new KTM, in second. Ben Haycock took third with Steve Jones fourth and Steve Lomas fifth. Veteran Colin Jones pulled out all the stops to take his class with 15 laps and a three minute margin over Gareth Lloyd in second. Allan 'Hoppy' Hopwood took a solid third place followed by Nick Evans fourth and Jon Jones fifth. The Sportsman class saw a two way battle between Aled Jones and Richard Evans, both on 13 laps. Aled finally took the first byfour minutes. John Newell took third, Iwan Edwards fourth and Rob Lambert fifth. This was a testing event for all riders, especially the afternoon racers. The rain really bought out the best in the best over the short but challenging circuit. Everything ran on time, the marshals and organisation was spot on, as usual with WOR events. Rob Lambert WOR Quad GBHS Round 3 at Lynn Ynn Hall by Tim@foto-x.co.uk WOR's Steve Ireland is a bit of a magician, he keeps pulling an endless supply of superb new venues from his top hat. Last weekend's venue really was impressive. Although the course was a little smaller than the usual WOR challenges, it was set in the superb grounds of Lynn Ynn hall near Ruthin. The Hall has long been derelict but the grounds offered riders every type of challenge imaginable; open flat fields, drop offs, jumps, woods, rocky stream beds, water splashes and plenty of places to overtake, in addition to a fantastic paddock and camping area. The weekend kicked off with the kids Quads, under 10's and under 12's and it was impressive to see these youngsters handle everything that was thrown at them. The lap wasn't long but it was tricky, especially the twisty wooded section, which soon became dotted with tree roots. In the under 10's Adam Blythen established a lead early on and gradually built on it to finish on 11 laps, a lap ahead of Jamie Morgan in second who had chased hard and stretched the gap to third place Sam Bailey by over two minutes. Jack Pierce in fourth spot also managed 10 laps but was some seven minutes behind Sam with Ben Till taking fifth on nine laps. In the under 12's Danny Lloyd led the way. Eleven laps saw him finish a lap ahead of Jak Griffiths in second spot. Rhys Davies took third, just managing to get in a creditable nine laps, a lap up on Josh Parry in fourth. The Blaster class was combined with the Over 12's for the second race of the day. Ashley McConnel completed an amazing 16 laps to take the honours just 6 minutes and a lap ahead of the Devil Himself, number 666, Kris Hiley. Rich Williams was breathing down his neck for most of the race and took third on 15 laps and 5 minutes with Lewis Burns 3 minutes behind in fourth and Helen Lewis just a lap down in fifth. The afternoon Adult race, sponsored by KIK ATV, saw a massive entry and quite a few new faces. A vote on the start line decided the duration of the race, which was to prove to be very close, all of the top seven riders finished with just a few minutes between them, but Ian Johnson just did enough to sneak in an extra lap to take pole position with 22 laps and a big trophy. Ian, riding a KIK quad funnily enough, got a great start and wasn't passed throughout the two and a half hours. Best of the rest was Roger Page in second with 21 laps and 2 seconds with Dave Bucken in third, Keith Everett fourth and Michael Burke fifth, all on 21 laps. This was really close over such a tough and varied course but the weather stayed fine throughout the day, which helped considerably in the amount of laps clocked up by the top five riders.
