The dirtbike-traxs crew returned to Bolton by Bowland for the second and last time this year for round 8 of the national putoline hare scramble championship, and as now seems the norm with the good old British summer were met with miserable conditions after yet another week of rain, some of it extremely heavy, the event was going to be a test for the riders. Saturday at 11.30 am after a brief on the line by dirtbike-traxs chief John Kerwin the race got underway with cloudy conditions and rain always threatening the youth and lady riders set off around a heavily modified course, returning first to race control was Scot Altass followed by Luke Flack with Daryl Gee and Jon Alldritt leading the chasing pack , but disaster struck the flying Altass when he came off in the mud damaging the bike , Luke Flack was now out on his own in the lead , with Harrison Bell having moved through to second place on his ktm . As the clock signalled time out Luke Flack was the clear winner by a lap from Harrison Bell second and Daryl Gee third. The junior class was dominated by Dexter Douglas who revelled in the muddy conditions taking a 1 lap win from Brandon Sharples with Mathew Clark picking up 3rd place The ladies race was won by Jade Gordon a lap clear of Gina Bewlay , Gina however set the fastest lap in the class ,with Emma ball securing third place. Sunday arrived after another night of heavy rain , the main concern for the organizing team was the level of the stream and could the riders cross to the other side of the valley , after a careful inspection by the dirtbike-traxs CEO John Kerwin it was deemed safe . with the riders lined up for the 10.15 start the dirtbike-traxs ceo John Kerwin briefed the riders on course cutting and the importance of riding the marked course in the arduous condition and not ruining the fields.
At 10.15 the experts and 040 riders set of around the full Bowland lap,

of the first lap it was the Biffstar that had a small lead over Joe
Deakin, with the other top contenders in the experts close on their
heels .by the end of the third lap the Biffstar had started to pull a
comfortable lead over Deakin but Luke Lusher making a welcome return to
competition had moved into third position riding a rm 125. Up with the
front runner during the early stages was Andy Cripps until he drowned
the Kawasaki. In one of the many water holes, the biffstar on an elderly
Honda cr 250 was looking in great shape as he reeled off the laps,
lapping all the experts some twice on his way to victory, finishing
second was Joe Deakin who is still improving all the time, and on his
comeback Luke Lusher finished third still showing all the natural talent
he has got just lacking race fitness. Anthony Crow won the 040 class
from Rob Butler, with a fine ride from local rider Chris Ball in third,
Levi Johnson won the clubman open class while Niki walker took the
clubman E1 win. Mark Fletcher won the sportsman E1 class by 2 laps from

With another big entry of over 350 riders the championship remains as popular as ever. The weekend started well with fine weather and a dry dusty track with a packed youth race on the start line for the 11.30 am start using a shorter track the senior B youth riders were off first, and the pair that have dominated the series so far Luke Flack and Scott Altass were out in front again with Altass taking the win from Luke Flack, John Alldritt claimed 3rd place by a 3 second margin from 4th placed Harrison Bell. ln the junior class a new rider to XC events Brandon Sharples took top spot with a 6 minute winning margin over second placed rider Dexter Douglas with Doltan Shannon in third. The closest race of the day was in the ladies class were the top 4 were only separated by just over 2 minutes Emma Ball won from Gina Bewlay second with Jade Gordon in third and Molly Howe in forth As daylight broke on Sunday it was clear just how much heavy rain had come through the night the ground was still hard but with a slippery top layer which was going to make the first race very difficult for the sportsman/novice group . the sportsman race set off bang on 9am with the leading group threading their way around the Gisburn circuit, as the leading group came upon the famous Barns banks where a large crowd had gathered it was clear this was going to prove a challenge to the riders as they struggled to get to the top of the steep banks, a large shoal of sportsman novice riders congregated at the bottom of the banks most needing 2 or 3 attempts to clear the Barns banks and proceed on their way. As the 2 hour race drew to a close sportsman E1 was won by Grant Gillander Mark Lakeland second and Barry James Cox third all with a solid 8 laps. The sportsman open class was dominated by local Lancashire riders with John Robson, first, Sander Douglas second and Dave Sunderland third, Elliot Shaw was best novice rider, it was a tough day for the riders in the first race and congratulations to all those that stuck it out. Ripror rigg The Dirtbike-traxs crew provided another new venue just north of Helmsley in North Yorkshire known as Ripror rigg set in countryside made famous by the tv series Heartbeat for the third round of the National Putoline Hare Scramble Championship. A virgin forest with a hard base, the course engineers had worked long and hard cutting a 15 minute course through the trees with winding trails & wide open breaks Work had started back in December and as predicted by the Dirtbike-traxs CEO John Kerwin the course remained a bog free zone. This forest was a big change to DBT's normal farm based venues with fields and small wooded areas and would provide a different kind of challenge to the riders . Once again the course engineering team provided 3 courses based on the sportsmans course, easing it for the youth race while adding in extra loops and gullies for the expert over 40 race, ensuring the course matched the riders abilities. With the camping area full of riders and families making the most of the Easter break, Dirtbike-traxs welcomed another 400 plus entry to Ripror rigg. The racing started on Saturday morning with a cloudy sky dispersed with some sunshine. The well supported youth and ladies race got underway at 11.30 with a 90 minute race duration using a shortened track which was better suited to the smaller 50, 65, 85cc, bikes quickly in to their stride and continuing were they left off in round 2 Scott Altass and Luke Flack were soon battling head to head as they pulled away from the chasing pack.
