Bolton's double top Dirtbike traxs ran there much awaited Dirtzberg Extreme hare scramble and power trial event assisted by trials star Graham Jarvis last weekend. The track was set out in the fantastic Nord Vue quarry with its deep gorges, dunes of crushed stone, steep hills, and the fell which included the difficult bear bank. The extreme event was matched by the extreme weather gale force winds blasted the Carlisle area for 3 days, but even this was no match for the dedicated dirtbike-traxs crew who were constantly repairing the tapes. The day started at 10 am with the power trial a quality expert line up saw Ben Hemingway take an early lead on his beta a lead which he held for the first half of the race before he crashed allowing team Sandiford rider and extreme enduro specialist Paul Bolton moved to the front. Both Bolton and Hemingway were awesome through the pit leaping from rock to rock while lesser riders struggled. Bolton took a narrow win from Ben Hemingway with Jon Richardson in third . In the clubman power trial Billy Robinson Sherco put in a great performance to take victory a lap a head of second placed mark Robertson At 12.30 the Husqvarna Dirtzberg extreme hare scramble got under way with an expert line up that contained 2 of the uk's best extreme enduro stars , Paul Bolton team Sandiford Honda and Sherco team rider Graham Jarvis, the battle of hells gate was set to continue , as the riders raced across the fell and hit bear bank for the first time it was Richard Elwood with a narrow lead over team Sandiford rider Paul Bolton , Bolton passed Elwood just before Satan's steps , graham Jarvis team sherco was the last expert to start and was making good progress through the field on the 450. Bear bank was now causing the majority of the riders major problems ,with some of the riders starting to take the long alternative scenic route to avoid the steep hill, Bolton on his crf250x was now finding a steady rhythm and his lead was increasing , gav houson on mps husqvarna was finding "the pit" tricky and had problems on several laps , at the half way point in the race Bolton had a 4 minute lead over the biffster, but graham Jarvis was moving up fast and passed the biffster in the quarry, Jarvis could not gain ground on the effortless Bolton who was stretching his lead at the front and as the 2 hour race duration came to an end Bolton had secured a winning margin of a clear lap over Jarvis who himself had completed 14 laps 2 laps clear of the 3rd placed Biffster, local rider Dave wood finished a fine 4th place The clubman class was won by Tom Hicks on his NTB racing Husqvarna while Dave Wilson took second, Joe Deakin on his Husqvarna 125 took 3rd place despite leading the clubman for a long period of the race, and he smashed his exhaust and had to make repairs in order to continue. The general view of the riders was that Dirtzberg was probably the most extreme hare scramble event in the uk so far, [video clips are on the dirtbike-traxs site so you can judge for yourselves] with this in mind Dirtbike-traxs are now set to improve the event and are looking at a qualifying system so more riders can be part of the extravaganza, the scope for course improvements is endless, and coupled with the brilliant spectator areas will make the next dirtzberg the event to watch. Dirtbike-traxs stated at the end of the event, this was a trial run for a much bigger event latter on in the year we were pleased with the out come and this venue has all that is needed for a full Dirtzberg weekend
