The True Grit team started plotting the course for this event two months ago and they came up with something special, nearly nine miles of track comprising of fast open going to wooded sections. Set to test the three hundred and fifty adult competitors taking part in the first round of the Putoline North of England Hare Scramble Championship. The youth event started the days proceedings at 9 am. With the weather conditions bright and sunny, seventy youngsters set off around the shortened Driffield circuit. Anthony Smith was the first rider back to time control, closely followed by Michael Briggs riding a Honda and Ryan Stavleley. These three riders remained in this order throughout the race giving Anthony Smith the victory in the 12 to 15 year class, Michael Briggs second and Ryan Staveley third. In the 8 to 11 year group one young rider stood out. Showing great skill Scott Altass won his group by a lap, a result which would have given him 9th place in the older group. 2nd place went to Damien Farrell 3rd place Luke Flack. All the youth finishers received the true grit survivors award. 11:15 saw the main event get under way. What a spectacle the 350 bikes looked lined up. Starting in rows at minute intervals the riders where soon out on to the course. Expert rider Keneth Rodney took up the early lead from Sandiford teamster 'Justin The Daddy Wilson'. This wasnt to last long as Justin soon pushed to the front, while other top runners started to drop out. Martin Sandiford ran out of petrol on lap 4, Wirral Off Road Supremo Steve Ireland went for a swim on lap 5 drowning his beta in a deep hole. By now RAS rider Gavin Houson had screamed his TM 125 into 2nd place with Darren Gill moving up into 3rd place. This is how it remained until the finish. The clubman race was won by Paul McSorley with Tom Wrightman in 2nd and Shane Keyworth in third. They all completed 7 laps. The 0ver 40 class was won by Chris Woodward from Chesterfields, John Boden in 2nd, third place went to Rob Butler narrowly beating 'Roy Dominator Palmer' into 4th. Anthony Cooper from Ripon won the sportsman class, the only rider in this class to complete 7 laps. In 2nd place on 6 laps was Craig Reynolds and 3rd place went to Michael Hirst. Thanks to every one that made this event possible. Round 2 is on the 26 of march at Tong on a new course. Enter early to avoid disappointment. We all hope Mark Houson recovers soon after his Saturday night in Driffield!!!! Expert Photo Justin Wilson Taken By Andy Greenwood
