The National Putoline North of England Hare Scramble Championships, Gisburn Lancs

The sun smiled on the Dirtbike Traxs crew, who put on another superb event. With nearly 400 riders taking part, there were three races, making this the best supported Hare Scramble of the weekend. The fantastic Gisburn venue provided excellent riding for all abilities.

8.30 saw the junior hare scramblers take to the start line. On a shorter course in the 12 to 15 year class Andrew Noakley started to build up an early lead, over Arron Dent and Joshua Snowden, Andrew eventually won by a lap. In the 8 to 11 year group Davey Todd won by a lap from Scott Altass second and Ayton Aldridge third, thanks to Eurotek and Putoline who supplied goodie bags for all the kids.

10 am saw the start of the Sportsman race. As the pack started to sort themselves out, before reaching the famous barnes banks lined with hundreds of spectators. The leading group got through ok before riders started to fall on the famous banks. The hard working marshalls keeping the riders going as the race progressed Stuart Mowbury and Steven Benner started to pull away from Craig Reynolds. Farmer Smith who was going well early on, crashed into one of the few trees on the course, dropping him down to the back markers. Stuart Mowbury went on to win the sportsmans class second place going to Steven Benell both these riders completing 14 laps 1 lap clear of third place rider Craig Reynolds who did well on the little 125 kawasaki.

1.30 saw the start of the Expert /Clubman race. Dirtbike-traxs team rider John Bradford took the ras sport holeshot prize. Team ras sport riders Gavin and Mark-Stella Houson were competing with each other to see who could start there bike last. As the leaders came into the wood which was only used in this race, Dirtbike-traxs Richard Copsey took up the lead, which he maintained for the early part of the race. Lee Paine took up the lead which he maintained, going on to win from Richard Copsey, thrid place going to Biff Smith on board his mighty berg. All the top experts completed 15 laps. In an act of sportsmanship Richard Copsey gave his second place trophy to Biff Smith who was ahead of Richard. But in the lap scoring lanes Biff was held up by a rider who had stalled his bike.

The clubman race was won by Mick Armstrong, from Simon Hindle second with Anthony Crowe third, all completing 14 laps. Finally the over 40 class was won by Rob Buttler second place went to Mick Kendall both completed 14 laps. 3 place was John Lofthouse on 13 laps.

A great day racing was had by all the competitors. Special thanks to Tony Altass, Martin Field, who produced the results with in seconds of the last rider crossing the finishing line. Results
