TRUE GRIT WEATHERS THE STORM!

Fast Eddy wins Pro Class!

Despite the horrendous weather conditions of the last two weeks the True Grit Team worked tirelessly to plot a rideable course around the 600 acres of the Driffield venue. This ensured Round 4 of the Putoline North of England Hare Scramble Championship went ahead. Using a mixture of young plantations, tracks and open going the course was in the region of 15 kilometres per lap. With another jam packed entry of 330 adult riders and 50 kids, it made this championship one of the best supported in the country.

The weather was kinder on Sunday with some sunshine and light winds which made ideal riding conditions. 9am saw the young hare scramblers take to the line. They tackled a shortened 8 kilometre course with a race duration of 90mins. The 12-15 group started first, with Andrew Noakley taking an early lead from Harry Hillas. This is how the positions remained until the finish with both riders completing 9 laps. The ever improving Liam Ward came third on board his 85cc Yamaha completing 8 laps.

In the 8 to 11 yrs class, Davey Todd narrowly took victory from True Grit's Scott Altas with Robert Johnson taking third. All the top 3 completed a fine 8 laps.

11:15am saw the start of the 3 hour adult race. What an awesome sight the 330 bikes looked lined up ready for the off. Ready on the front line fresh from his world W.E.C Campaigning, was one of the UK'S top riders Paul 'FAST EDDY' Edmondson, riding his P.A.R Homes Honda. Also there fresh from his travels in the USA was GNCC star Ryan Voase on board his Kawasaki. Along for the experience was WEC rider and Sand specialist Mike Kock on a twin pipe HM Honda, just some of the riders in the Pro class. From the off Paul Edmondson took the hole shot closely followed by Ryan Voase, as they headed off into the woods. These two started to pull a commanding lead from the rest of the field with Dutch man Mike Kock in third. Paul Edmondson with Ryan Voase hot on his heels were showing their class which proved to be a hard battle throughout the day. After two hours and on their 6th lap Paul Edmondson came into the pits 15 secs ahead of Voase. But Voase fuelled quicker and got away leading the event for the next lap. However Paul Edmondson on his P.A.R Homes Honda showed his class and fort hard to regain the lead on lap 8, which he maintained till the end. Fast Eddy won by over 4 mins from Voase, with HM Honda rider Mike Kock taking third.

In the expert class Lincoln Brewster got away well on his KB Gas Gas, with veteran rider Mark 'stella' Houson chasing hard. While chasing hard Mark hit a tree causing severe pain to his old bones and forcing an unaccustomed retirement. All was not lost for the Housons as Team RAS TM rider Gavin Houson battled his way to the front, narrowly beating Lincoln Brewster by 50secs, with Daniel Taylor 2min 30 a drift to 3rd place.

The Over 40's class was more clear cut with Cumbria's Rob Butler winning by 11mins. Burnley's John Lofthouse came second with Brett Haley a close third. All completing 8 laps.

In the Clubman class the ever improving Steve Watson took his first clubman win of the season by 50 seconds from Simon Hindle and Chris Heath in third. These riders completed 8 laps.

The Sportsman class was won by Anthony 'Cooper Man' Cooper, still in his first year of riding one lap ahead of Carl Redshaw. The ever improving Harrogate rider Lee Depledge came third on his 300 KTM. Anthony Cooper completed an excellent 8 laps with the others completing 7.

True Grit Off Road coupled with the excellent Driffield venue provided another day's outstanding sport for all the competitors. With the results being provided by the efficient transponder system, they were calculated within seconds of the last man crossing the finish line.

True Grit and the crew would like to thank all the marshal's, Rob Sheldon of Putoline, M.R.S Sherco for the sponsorship of this event and the land owner, in helping to make this another outstanding event.
