2007 Trials Des Nations

28th - 30th September 2007 in the Isle of Man, issued on behalf of the Peveril Motor Cycle Club

WORLD TRIAL WILL REACH INSIDE THE CAPITAL TOWN

The Isle of Man will conclude its TT Centenary Year with more prestigious world-class motorcycling events, topped by the FIM World Team Championship Trial des Nations.

This will take place on Sunday September 30th based on the Island's capital town Douglas. Spectators will not have far to go to watch the action. Agreement has recently been reached that all but two of the 12 groups of observed sections will be within the boundary of the Borough, with the paddock and administrative facilities based at the famous TT Grandstand on Glencrutchery Road.

For people who might not know quite what an event like this involves, there will even be observed sections right on the sea-front of Douglas Promenade, while the nearby gardens of the Villa Marina (where Joe Loss and his Orchestra once entertained summer crowds) will also be highly accessible on foot.

It's all designed to ensure maximum enjoyment for competitors, officials and trials fans, with the main event will backed by two other days' trials riding of world repute.

On Friday September 28th there will be the Women's World Championship which will in the evening have its presentation of awards incorporated within a gala presentation of the main Trial des Nations international teams' at the Villa Marina.

On Saturday September 29th the Women's Trial des Nations competition will take place, thus making three full days' of world-class trials action.

Already, considerable interest is being shown in competing, though entries do not close until the end of the month. It is understood that teams will be coming from as far away as Japan and America.

The holders of the main title are Spain, who are likely to be headed by Indoor World Champion and Outdoor World Champion-elect Toni Bou (Montesa-Honda).

And with reigning champion Adam Raga (Gas Gas), world number three Albert Cabestany (Sherco) and Jeroni Fajardo (Beta) likely to be the other three members of the team, they will be a good bet to win on Manx soil.

When the event was previously held on the Island in 1997, the British team won, with world champion Doug Lampkin (Montesa) leading the troops including local star Steve Colley (Gas Gas).

Colley has since retired from international competition, but Lampkin remains hugely competitive and will again captain the home team. Graham Jarvis (Sherco), James Dabill (Montesa) and Shaun Morris (Gas Gas) will be the others, with newly-crowned World Junior Champion Michael Brown (Beta) the team's reserve.

A total of 28 other countries have been invited to send representative teams, with entries not due to close until August 31st.

Besides the main Trial des Nations on Sunday September 30th, there will be two other days of international competition. On Friday September 28th there will be the British round of the Women's Individual World Championship and on Saturday September 29th the Women's Trials des Nations, the British team for which will be Becky Cook, Maria Conway and Donna Fox, with Katy Sunter reserve.

All three events will run on a 12k course in and around the Isle of Man's national capital Douglas, with the headquarters at the TT Grandstand which recently witnessed the Centenary of the world-famous TT Road Races.

Taking responsibility for the organisation on behalf of the Auto-Cycle Union of Britain is the Peveril Motor Cycle Club, who successfully ran the 1997 Trial des Nations as well as Britain's round of the World Championship in 2000 and 2002.

EVENT STILL DEFINITELY ON

The Peveril Motor Cycle Club wishes to confirm that the Trial des Nations, set to take place in the Isle of Man at the end of September, has NOT been postponed nor cancelled.

Notwithstanding voluntary restrictions placed on the running of local motorcycling events, the club today states that no request has been made for the World team Championship to be called off.

The re-emergence of foot-and-mouth disease in livestock at farms in the south of England has led to the Isle of Man taking precautions with the movement of animals in and out of the Island. To that end, access to the Manx countryside is also restricted.

The Trial des Nations is still over seven weeks away and the Peveril Club is confident all will be well by then.

A total of 28 other countries have been invited to send representative teams, with entries not due to close until August 31st.

Besides the main Trial des Nations on Sunday September 30th, there will be two other days of international competition. On Friday September 28th there will be the British round of the Women's Individual World Championship and on Saturday September 29th the Women's Trials des Nations.
