Builth Wells Motor Club-

Round 2

Church Farm Hare & Hounds - 15th June 2008

Report by Wayne James

Glorious sunshine greeted the riders for Round 2 of "The Builth Wells Hare and Hounds series 2008" at Church Farm, Crossgates, just outside Llandrindod Wells. A superb track just over 3 miles had been set out by the club. The track had everything, and even though there had not been any rain in this part of Mid Wales for over a week, the course was still very wet in places and would prove a challenge to even the expert riders.

  Updated report & results

Alltmynydd Hare & Hounds
11th June

Dyfed Dirt Bike club held there annual evening hare + hound motorbike race in Alltymynydd, Llanybydder on June 11th. There were over 45 riders at the race and they were in for a tough 2hour race due to the track being slippery from the constant drizzle just as the race got underway. Tudur Davies (only expert) was the favourite to win and he didn’t disappoint as he came home first over the finish line having completed 9 laps. Paul Davies finished second and he was the first veteran home also on 9 laps. Chris "the snipe" Larkin finished third also first clubman home on 9 laps. Chris is strongly expected to move on up to the experts class as he has constantly finished in the top three every event he has entered lately and doesn’t want to be tarnished a trophy hunter like some people in the club The second clubman was Gareth Lloyd on 9 laps, third was John Stobbs on 9 laps. The second veteran was Jason Rees on 9 laps followed by Graham Birkett who completed 8 laps. The first of the sportsman was Michael Williams on 8 laps, second was Julian James on 8 laps and third was Calvert Jones finishing 8 seconds short of the second place rider

Myles Rosser coc was glad that everybody enjoyed themselves and wishes Eirwyn George a speedy recovery with his broken hand. Also the club would like to thank Mid Wales Dirt Track for the use of their fabulous transponder system which worked a BRILLIANTLY. Within 5 minutes of the last rider crossing the finishing line the results were out. The club found that the system was the best timing equipment they have used and look forward to using it again soon.

Sandifords join the Husqvarna network

Husky Sport, UK Distributor for Husqvarna motorcycles, is pleased to announce the appointment of James Sandiford Motorcycles Ltd to the Husqvarna dealer network.

The Burnley, Lancashire based dealership, which has been trading for the past 52 years has opted out of solus status with Honda to add the Husqvarna Enduro bikes to the retail shop line up.

Caroline Sandiford, Director commented 'With our high level of involvement in the Enduro competition scene, we felt it was the right time to add the Husqvarna brand to our business, to broaden our horizons and to satisfy the ongoing demand from our customers for two stroke Enduro bikes'.

Off road sport is core to the Sandiford business, having been the UK Montesa importer since 1967 and dealing with Honda off road since 1986. The dealer also runs a successful Enduro race team under the Sandiford/Specialist Breakers banner, notable results including 3rd overall for team rider Paul Bolton at the recent Erzberg Rodeo Extreme Enduro in Austria.

Martin Sandiford, brother of Caroline and company co director, has already taken delivery of a 2008 WR250 two stroke as his own Enduro bike and a number of the team riders will be switching to Husqvarna throughout the season.

Jason Thomas takes 4th consecutive win!

Jason Thomas was back on top of the Podium again at the Weekend for his 4th consecutive victory in 4 weeks! This time he was again riding as a Guest of KTM North America, at the FMSQ 3 Hour event held on Sunday at Ferme Neuve,150 miles North-West of Montreal, Quebec,Canada.

Jason was piloting a KTM XCF250, specially prepared for him by Allan Lachapelle, of Lachapelle Racing Products. The event was held in the picturesque hills of Ferme Neuve, through dense forestry & attracted a large entry. Once again the event was run to a very high standard & as the weather was hot & sunny, was a perfect opener for the Summer season.

Jason managed to lap the entire field during the race, beating top East Coast Suzuki rider Guy Giroux who finished 2nd. Filling out the remaining top positions were Michel Metcalfe (KTM) in 3rd & Patrick Beaule (KTM) in 4th. Speaking after the awards ceremony Jason said: " I'm having such an awesome time here in Canada, everyone is being so friendly to me & so supportive. Its a great place to be for an Off-Road racer & I cant get over how well everything here is organized."

Jason had a double reason for celebration at the weekend because on Thursday he finally received his U.S. Visa. This will enable him to really concentrate on a full racing programme in North America for the next few seasons. He commented: "I've waited so long & worked so hard for this chance, You can' t just come over here & race, You have to do it properly. My Visa means I can commit to doing at least two full series over here, hopefully one in Canada & one in the U.S.. It's what I've dreamed of." Jason would like to thank all the people who made the weekend possible, particularly Allan & Ann Lachapelle, Patrick Beaule & Andy White from KTM, Alf & all the guys at Lethbridge KTM,& a special thank you to the Ferme Neuve event organizers for all their hard work.

Sudbury MCC
ran round 3 of the EMG Motor Group Eastern Centre Championship on Sunday 8 June on the mixed farmland and woods at Home Farm Little Hadham. The woods as usual were sticky and challenging for many riders! Aston Bird was in fine form pulling a significant lead from the 2 special tests. He reinforced this by losing least time on the super challenging last lap which none of the championship riders cleaned. Aston came closest with a 5 minute penalty. Chris Hockey posted 4th on the tests but pulled up to the runer up spot with a strong last lap losing 6 minutes with Julian Harvey taking third place after posting second place overall on the test. Andy Mason took the expert win from Graham Mays and Rob Blackman won the clubman class. The Galloway Forest Park Enduro
1st June 2008 Borgan Forest Enduro, Newton Stewart
4th Round of SACU Scottish Enduro Championship

Following a last minute non-event in 2007, local Enduro 'has beens' Brian McCleary, Andrew McConnell and Alan Murray once again set out an Enduro as only they know how.

This year, unlike last, the weather leading up to the Scottish Borders Enduro Club's event was exceptional for the time of year. The Forest was even dusty in places, a rarity for Galloway.

The Patrick's, Rosie and Jimmy, took the entries up to the limit of 100 riders and with no points counting for the Sportsman class, the event was advertised as a 'Tough Forest Enduro'. Full report
