to take on top riders in the 2011Dakar rally
Welsh rider Craig Bounds is again going to take on the top riders in the world in the 2011 Dakar rally taking place is South America. After the disappointment of last year with engine trouble forcing Craig to retire on the penultimate day he is back to take on the likes of Cyril Despres and Marc Coma. With a 15th place finish in one of the stages last year Craig can definitely cut it with the top boys. The Dakar is renowned as being the most dangerous and toughest motorsport event in the world and with over 45 competitor fatalities since the start of the event it is not for the faint hearted. The event runs for 14 days, in January, over 9,000 kilometres and includes hundreds of motorbikes, cars and superfast trucks racing over sanddunes, supersoft sandy pistes and rocky terrain. The average distance for a day is 700 kilometres with bikes reaching top speeds over 100 mph. Already securing title sponsorship with Team Delta Kunststoffe and major sponsors including Bowmanstor and Askey engineering and with 2 British rally round wins already under his belt this year he is well set to achieve his goal of a top 20 finish. Markus Riegler Owner and Managing Director of Delta Kunststoffe said, "Delta Kunststoffe AG is a small, family-owned polymer-processing company from Germany. We specialize in colour concentrates, electrically conductive polymers as well as individual, ready-to-use compounds. Our products are highly customized and individual, innovative and bespoke. The requirements and expectations put into these products by our clients on a day-to-day basis are constantly challenging us to strive for a superior product and new, creative solutions. As both a motorcycle and racing enthusiast, when I heard of Craig's story and ambition for the first time, I was instantly excited, and it was clear to me that - sharing the very same values and passions - we as Delta Kunststoffe just had to support this exceptional rider. In particular, we share the same goal: to go the extra mile and put in all our resources, to not only come to a satisfying, but an exceptional result that will make a difference. We wish Craig all the best in the 2011 Dakar and are proud to be his title sponsor." The 2011 Dakar has promised to be more technical than the previous years hence Craigs decision to go on a Yamaha 450 WR. Craig was the first Welshman to finish the Dakar in 2009, he has also represented Wales in 9 international six day enduros and has competed in different events around the globe
Although securing a large proportion of the amount it costs to go Craig is still looking for two more major sponsors, you can also make individual smaller donations to help him on his way.
