JSTGG were out in force at the weekends Inter Centre Team Trial organised by the Mid Wales Centre. Saturday was the Youth event and B+B/JST Rider Jack Price continued his
good form helping his Yorkshire team to the win. Jack was also the 3rd
best B Class rider.
British Solo Trials Championship - Mackenzie Trial For James Dabill it was a case of normal service has been resumed as
last Sunday he won Round 6 of the ACU Events sponsored British Trials
series. Experts A saw a new winner in the shape of Jack Spencer. Jack is always there or there abouts and this was a well-deserved win for the Beta rider who saw Gary Macdonald finish second from a resurgent James Fry in third. This result throws the A Class wide open with Spencer now only one point adrift of Ricky Wiggins in the title chase. It was a similar story in Experts B where there was also a new winner. This time it was Adam Milner who would take the win from Guy Kendrew with James Lampkin third. All three riders finished on sixty four mars lost which was pretty tough going. Milner took the win on the tie break rule. It was not a good day for MRS Sherco rider Richard Timperley who had been leading the class until the day. A fifth place dropped him down to second in the overall standings but again it is really close and only one point separates him from Kendrew with just two rounds remaining. In the youth group Bradley Cox continued his excellent run of form taking the win from Tom Dexter with Chris Stay third.
MICHAEL BROWN No.1 JST GGUK Rider was second yesterday at the fantastic Yeadon Guiseley & District ‘Mackenzie Trophy Trial’ at Brimham Rocks. I say fantastic because the event was superb and full marks must go to the club for getting the severity of the sections spot on. For the winners of both the Championship Class and Expert Class to lose 30 marks prove it was about perfect. I was very impressed with Michael yesterday who rode very well indeed. Both James Dabill and Michael put on a fantastic show for the spectators and regardless of Michael’s result (win or lose) I was very happy with his riding. It was a close fight all day with both riders making a few mistakes and also both having some awesome rides. Dibs won so respect to him but my man was not far behind and I was a certainly proud sponsor yesterday. Sam Haslam JSTGG was 4th and is now joint 3rd in the overall Championship standings with his JST Team mate Ross Danby who had an ‘off’ day finishing 6th. Ross has been riding well recently so yesterday he was simply off form and will soon bounce back. In the Expert A Class, Gary MacDonald JSTGG made the trip south and was best GG rider finishing second behind Jack Spencer. James Fry was third and RCM GG Rider Ricky Wiggins was 4th. Ricky still leads this closely fought Championship with two rounds to go which will go down to the wire at Rochdale in October. I have every faith in Ricky to keep fighting. Josh Woods was the best GG rider in the Expert B Class finishing 6th. Josh is now 5th in the Championship. The hotly contested Youth Class was won by Bradley Cox chased all the way by the JST GG Boys Tom Dexter and Chris Stay finishing second and third respectively. Dec Bullock was 4th also on GG and Jack Stones JSTGG was 5th. Thanks to Trialmag for the pic of Michael. Thanks to Kev and Luke for prepping Michaels RAGA300 It was also BTC action for the Women and Girls yesterday at Richmond. Local rider Katy Sunter JSTGG was best GG finishing 4th with Hannah Styles 5th. JST rider Nikita Smith has already won this years Girls B championship so she moved up a class to ‘Girls A’ Class which ride the same route as the Womens. Nikita still won her class and would have been 5th overall in the Women’s….very impressive! The popular Scarborough Two Day Youth Trial was also on this weekend and was won by the ever improving JACK PRICE B+B/JST GG rider who rode in the A Class and won easily. Jack is a B Class rider but rode out of class to gain experience. This is yet another superb ride by Jack. Oliver Kendra made it a ‘Gas Gas double’ by winning the B Class. Thomas Knight GG was second in the D Class.
We arrived for the practice lap on Saturday after a few showers on route. The club had made good efforts to change the sections from last year which was the first event at this new venue. The problem is the club overdid the severity and most sections were changed after the practice lap which the club did well. However, after the over night rain and continued rain ALL day yesterday saw the stream water level rise to an unride-able level and the event was cut short to 2 laps from the planned 3. Even with changed sections, the weather forced the event to be very high scoring because of the weather / terrain. JST No.1 Rider Michael Brown (left) had another second place on his new Raga bike, behind winner James Dabill. Michael struggled to ‘get going’ on the first lap and was in 3rd place after lap 1, two marks behind his JST team mate Sam Haslam who was riding well. We hung back a little bit too much on the first lap knowing the muddy banks / ruts would get better after the eight championship riders had settled the sections. On section 11, Michael flicked the rear Mich off the rim so a hasty wheel change was needed. This put us the last rider and as you can imagine with the water levels raising this was not ideal. Nevertheless Michael rode with his head and purposely went for ‘threes’ on the impossible sections and he was successful to get through half of the twelve sections. A handful of good rides got him back to second in front of Sam. So it was another runner up place for Michael but it was SAM HASLAM’S first ever BTC podium finish so well done to Sam! Ross Danby (JSTGG) also had his best finish of the year in 4th place chasing Sam home. These two are always so close but this week it was Sam that got the deserved podium. So, we didn’t win but I was happy to have the runner up, third and 4th placed riders all JST GG Teamsters.. In the Expert A Class, John Lee supported GG Rider Robert Harries finished 2nd which was a fantastic result. Ricky Wiggins (RCMGG) won’t be happy with 6th place but still leads the Championship by 3 marks from James Fry who also had an ‘off day’. Keelan Hancock was the best Gasser rider in expert B Class in 3rd place. Tom Dexter (JSTGG) got the final podium place in the Youth Class in 3rd. Chris Stay (JSTGG) had an eventful day finishing 4th. Chris had a nasty crash on the first lap which shook him and the bike (bent disc and mudguard stay). Thanks for Factory Kev for preparing Michaels immaculate new Raga bike. Thanks for Trial mag for the pics. Regards, Shirty
Also with the weekends postponement of Japan WTC Michael chose to ride a trial at Hull yesterday and won, beating Ian Austermule. Last weekend’s popular Loch Lomond Two Day Trial was closely fought with JST Riders Dan Thorpe and Gary MacDonald both dropping the same over the two days. The win eventually went to Dan having one more clean. JST GGUK Team rider Ross Danby rode and won the Welsh Llanfyllin trial – The Forest Trophy Trial. JST GGUK Youth rider Tom Dexter had a convincing win in the A Class at the YMSA Trial at Foxholes near Matlock. Craig Robinson JSTGG won the adult Expert Class. The countries best Women and girl riders also had ‘back to back’ British Championship Trials over the past two weekends. Last weekend they were at the South Shropshire event and JST GG Rider Hannah Styles got her first podium finish with 3rd in her first year as an adult. Well done! Nikita Smith won her ‘girls A’ Class again to make it four wins from four events! This event also saw the Youth C+D Boy classes and it was good to see Thomas Knight in the D Class medium wheel class on his GG Cadet 80 on the podium in 3rd! The women and girls went to Matlock yesterday for the Mansfield Maun event and Hannah Styles was back to 4th place after her good podium the previous week. Its Hannah’s first year in the Adult class and she is still so young at 18 with her competitors a lot more experienced. She must learn to be patient and keep practicing…the results will come. Nikita Smith won the girls A Class yet again! The next round of the popular S3-Parts Clubman National Trials Championship was yesterday up in North Yorkshire / The Alan Trophy Trial and this was won by on form Dan Thorpe just beating his JST GGUK Team mate Sam Haslam by one mark. Its good to see Dan back to form winning both the Loch Lomond Two Day and the Alan…good on ya! B+B JSTGG Youth B Rider Jack Price continues to impress and he blitzed the Youth Classes overall at yesterdays Bradford & District Motor Club Davy Cup Trial at Thorlby and Skyrakes Farm nr Skipton N Yorkshire. He was the best Youth rider and only finished one mark behind Expert Adult winner Tony Scarlett! Thanks for the pic of JST GGUK rider Dan Thorpe by Eric Kitchen
Well that’s another SSDT over, and what a fantastic week it was. A fantastic 100th year event and near perfect weather! The GG factory once again acknowledged the importance of the biggest Trial in the world and sent their Team Truck and factory personnel which together with our UK service team of Factory Kev, Andy Hipwell, Luke Meredith and Alan Winter gave all the Gas Gas riders the confidence they need to finish this grueling event. Above all I must thank these guys mentioned for their ‘premier service’ for the very long week. I hope all the GG riders share my thanks. I must also congratulate the Edinburgh and District MCC for putting on yet again a superb event with section severity about perfect. Time was not an issue all week but maybe 28 minutes from Fersit to paddock was a bit tight.. Also congratulations to the Trial winner James Dabill and Beta. So onto the Team JSTGGUK results… Our No.1 JST GGUK Rider Michael Brown was excellent in finishing second. I watched him ride every section and he only made one mistake all week with an unlucky ‘5’ at the Annatt group on Wednesday. He rode the section before me and when he fived I felt sick for him. To win the SSDT nowadays you simply can not make a big mistake and win. The top few riders are losing very few marks at this event and the rider with the least mistakes wins. Michael was very focused all week and was joint leader after the first day with Dougie. He was superb on our difficult early day Friday and was still focused for the win on the last day which in fact he won the day award for. For me the best ride of the week was his awesome clean on the final sub at Pipers Burn. Michael is really buzzing on the GG now and is all set for the start of the WTC this coming weekend in Germany. Factory GG Rider and Trials legend Dougie Lampkin retired after Day 5. Doug went to Scotland to win and that’s exactly what he was doing until Fersit on Thursday afternoon when he fived a relatively easy section jumping a gap towards the end of the section. I would love to watch this again because although I watched him do it im still bemused to what happened. Maybe someone has filmed this? Anyway, a ‘five is a five’ but the main issue was how he landed badly twisting his ankle. It was obvious Doug was in pain but with adrenalin flowing and time ticking Doug cleaned the remaining sections to finish the day. A much needed hospital visit showed that nothing was broken but obvious damage to the ankle was treated. Doug would have known with carrying an injury and having a five ‘the win’ was not looking good. I was pleased to see him ride on the Friday. It was our early day with not much ‘moor work’ so Doug rode to see how is ankle would hold out. With new boots, strapped ankle and pain killers the ‘Legend’ continued. He was a very different rider on Friday and was in obvious pain. Friday was not good day to be early and Doug had two fives which definitely sealed his fate of the win or even a podium finish. Doug’s ankle and calf swelled a lot more during the day and he decided that to continue and finish the event would have caused further damage so he said there was no way he could ride the final day. Initially I was disappointed because ive always thought the manufacturers Team award to be very prestigious and we were wining it easily with Doug, Michael and Gary Mac. Nevertheless I respect Doug’s decision and only he knows the pain he was in. With the first two WTC rounds back to back over the next two weeks I can now see he made the right decision. On a personal note it was cool for me to ride the 100th SSDT with the best Trials rider ever on a GG! I must also not mention that his brother Harry had a dab on Devils Staircase! I must also add that both Michael and Dougie used the new Reiger rear shocks that will be used on the stunning new 2011 Raga Replica. They performed perfectly with two different riding styles and difference in rider weights. JST GGUK Rider Gary MacDonald was a superb 5th. To have a good result at the SSDT you must give 100% and that’s exactly what Gary gave. He always rides well in Scotland but this year he impressed me. Riding just in front of Michael and Doug, he enjoyed his week riding with his JST Team mate Ross Danby. Sam Haslam was the next best JST rider in 12th. Sam rode well and should be better than 12th but too many marks on our early day Friday spoilt his week. He enjoyed his week riding with Michael and 12th really doesn’t reflect on how well he was riding. Maybe a little too slow and relaxed at times buy hey that’s Sam J Dan Thorpe (JSTGG) was 16th and joint winner of Day 3. Hard to comment on Dans performance because I didn’t see him ride one section as he was about half an hour behind the rest of the Gasser Team. Dan won’t be happy with 16th but I am because I know he always gives 100% and if you study the results they were very close from 9th to 18th with only 8 marks between these nine positions! Ross Danby (JSTGG) was 19th and another Teamster to lose way too many on our early day Friday. Ross was riding very well and kept his cool all week. He enjoyed his week riding with Gary Mac. As I said you can’t afford a really bad day at the ssdt these days and one day can really spoil your overall result. Ricky Wiggins (RCMGG) was 26th which surprised me. He was 21st last year but his riding level and fitness has increased a lot this year so I thought a top 20 would have been a certainty for Ricky. Craig Robinson (JSTGG) was 28th. Craig had a fantastic start to the event last year which helped his confidence. This year he didn’t start so good and was playing ‘catch up’ all week. Shirty (JSTGG) was 33rd which was not good. Im not so disappointed because I put hardly any preparation into the event. Too much gym time and not enough bike time left me dead after 4 days. I dropped from 19th to 30th after our early day Friday when I rode terribly. You couldn’t ‘fluke’ the harder sections and found every hole there was. Amos thrashed me for the over 40 award so well done to him. One thing that was very well prepared was my bike…thanks Kev. That’s 23 Scottish’s for me now… Katy Sunter (JSTGG) successfully finished yet another SSDT and was third best lady rider in 136th place. Well done to Emma Bristow who was best lady. Thanks to my Dad for the pic of Michael. So that’s another SSDT done and now onto the WTC this coming weekend in Germany… Regards Shirty
No.1 JST GGUK Team rider Michael Brown has just finished second again at Round 3 of the 2011 British Trials Championship. After being so close to the current Champion James Dabill at the last round and also matching him for the win at last weekends Chris Carter S3-Parts National, Michael was in a confident mood… Practice went well with only the first part of section 5 being an issue for Michael. Dibs cracked on in practice and rode all the sections dry with the most grip. We hung back purposely knowing the rocks get very slippery even after only a few riders so it was good to try the sections whilst slippery. After practice Michael was happy and in a confident mood for the event Sunday. Things started well with an easy clean on section one as did all the Champ class. Section two was harder with a very tricky start. Michael got this wrong and was forced to change his line dramatically which seemed impossible and finished with a two mark ride which was very impressive. Dibs fived behind him. The rest of the lap went well apart from what was to be Michaels ‘bogey section’ five where he just couldn’t get the start right at all. So lap one done and 18 marks lost, unknown to us at the time Dibs was eight better on 10. Lap two Michael was still riding well but four ‘5s’ really lost him any chance of him winning the event. So after two laps it was obvious that Dibs had the event under control and we just tried to finish with a strong last lap which Michael did. He dug deep and was ‘onfire’ in awesome form on the last lap losing only 9 marks which I was happy with. So Michael was second again! I am personally happy with Michael and he did ride well yesterday but full credit to the deserved winner Dabill who was in unbeatable form yesterday.. I was also very impressed with Michael’s Minder yesterday. Shaughan had a nasty fall on section 8 on the first lap and twisted his ankle very badly and it looked like I would have had to sign on as minder and continue without him. However Shaughan was adamant he could carry on so I respect his commitment to the Team. Ross Danby was the next best JST Teamster finishing 5th behind Alexz and Jack Challoner. Ross kept his head in the slick conditions and finished two marks in front of his team mate Sam Haslam who was 6th. Sam was in fact in a podium position after the first lap! Ross now has a one mark advantage over Sam in the Championship. Craig Robinson JSTGG was battling on in 9th.. In the Expert A Class Gary MacDonald JSTGG blitzed he rivals by 30 marks for an easy win. Gary has not ridden the first two rounds because of injury. He has just reminded the Expert riders why he is the current Expert Champion. Next best gasser was RCM rider Ricky Wiggins who finished 4th. Ricky was a little disappointed at the finish but after he realized he had extended his Championship lead to 5 points he was happy. In the Expert B Class, Josh Woods JSTGG also deserves a mention for getting the 3rd place podium! Thanks to Factory Kev for preppin’ Michaels bike. Thanks to Trialmag for the pic of MB. Shirty
James Dabill won and I must congratulate both these riders for truly ‘World class performances’ which were a joy to watch. I was very happy with Michael yesterday. Even with a few mistakes which possibly cost him the win I’m still more then happy with his progress on the gasser and his confidence is growing every outdoor event now. He was in awesome form yesterday and was 100% focused on the win. With three ‘5s’ on the first lap we actually thought Dibs would be a fair way in front but when we were told that there were only two marks in it, it was definitely ‘game on’ and Michael was buzzing! He got on a confident roll and even another ‘5’ on section four didn’t bother him. He rode superbly for laps 2 & 3 and I was proud to be part of the Team. His Minder Shaughan was on good form yesterday also raising his game witnessing his pal ‘Pune’ getting back to his best form. In my opinion it’s hard to judge a riders level at the Indoor World Championship and its only when the ‘proper Trials’ start outdoor you can see the level. Michael has only had his ‘red bike’ 3 months now and he is still learning at this high level. Ok, Dibs still beat him but the gap is getting closer and I really don’t think either of them could have ridden much better. You only have to see the gap to Alexz Wigg in 3rd and Jack Challoner in 4th to appreciate how well the top two were riding. So its ‘2 nil’ to Dibs and Beta….but we are getting closer and battle will continue at BTC3 in Kinlochleven in two weeks time…’work in progress’ ! Thanks to Factory Kev and Luke for prepping Michaels bike. Thanks to Trial-mag for the pic Ross Danby was 5th and next best JSTGG Rider who looked very good in places. Ross was actually 3rd after the first lap but a bad second lap put him down a few places, He recovered well on the last lap and finished 5th at the end. Im confident Ross WILL get on the podium this year. He definitely has the ability. Sam Haslam (JSTGG) had an average day in 7th and now shares 4th in the Championship with Ross after the first two rounds. Craig Robinson (JSTGG) was 10th. In the Expert A’s, Ricky Wiggins (RCM GAS GAS) was on the podium again, this time 3rd after his superb win at Round one. The top 4 were all close and Ricky knows that he must finish on the podium at every round to win the Championship. Ricky and James Fry (winner yesterday) now share the Championship lead after two rounds.. In the Expert B’s Keelan Hancock was the best Gasser rider who was on the podium in 3rd place. New GG Rider Josh Woods was 4th. The Youth Class was won by JSTGG Rider Tom Dexter…well done! Regards Shirty
He shares the win with Alexz Wigg. They both lost only 1 mark and on the same section so there’s no way to split these two Riders. Ben Morphett also lost 1 mark but on an earlier section so he finishes 3rd. It was a good day for the JSTGGUK Team with five riders in the Top 10. Michael joint winner, Ross Danby 5th, Craig Robinson 6th, Dan Thorpe 7th and Sam Haslam 10th. S3-Parts boss ‘Michel Kaufmann’ also rode, thoroughly enjoying his day and proud to support this year’s series. Thanks to Trialmag for pic of Michael. Another JSTGGUK Rider currently ‘on form’ riding his new PRO300 ‘Racing’ is Scotland’s Gary MacDonald. With only one month to go for the SSDT Gary won last weeks Scottish Championship Round and also won yesterdays famous Ian Pollock Memorial Trial. Gary was last years best GG Rider at the SSDT and he always comes good at the Scottish. Back to BTC action this coming weekend in Devon! Regards Shirty
No.1 JST GGUK Rider MICHAEL BROWN made it through the qualification and went out in the semi-final with Cabestany. Michael finished 6th on the night. He’s finished the indoor Championship on 19 points in 8th position for 2011. Michael spent last week practicing and training with Team mates Adam Raga and Dougie Lampkin and it looks like it helped because Michael qualified for the main event this weekend. He now returns home for the Jack Wood National this Sunday and to concentrate on the BTC with two rounds next month before the SSDT. On the UK National scene, bizarrely there were two good Nationals on the same day! The Bemrose Trophy Trial was won by JSTGGUK Rider Sam Haslam who beat his JST Team mate Craig Robinson who was gutted to miss out on his first National win after a dumb ‘5’ at Hawks Nest. So Sam was the winner for the second year running…well done! The second equally as popular UK National was ‘The Cleveland’ and our best JST Teamster was Ross Danby who was joint 2nd (3rd after tie break) behind winner Alexz Wigg and runner up Ian Austermule. Well done Ross. Dan Thorpe (JSTGG) finished 6th. It was also the weekend of the first Youth British Trials Championship down in Devon and im proud to say JST GGUK Rider Chris Stay won the A Class and B+B/JSTGGUK Rider Jack Price won the B Class. Chris was 4th in the A Class Championship last year and was very happy to start this years Championship with a fine WIN ! Chris’ JST team mate and fellow IOW Rider George Gosden also had his best A Class BTC result to date finishing on the podium in 3rd place. Tom Dexter (JSTGG) was 5th and Jack Stones was 10th in his first A Class National. I must say the ‘best JST rider of the weekend’ award for me must go to JACK PRICE who won the B Class without any marks lost! Even when the event is easy to ‘go clean’ is special, especially with the pressure that these young lads put on themselves. Jacks best B Class BTC result last year was 5th so to start 2011 with a win is good work and obvious that this young lad has been practicing hard J Jason Lawer’s lad Oliver Lawer finished 4th in the ‘C Class big wheel’ on his GG Rookie 80cc and Thomas Knight finished 4th in the D Class medium wheel on his GG Cadet ! Thanks to ian cross for the pic of Michael Brown. Regards Shirty JST GGUK at the Wallace Cup Trial...Round 1 of the S3 PARTS Championship Team JST GGUK Riders were out in force at Round 1 of the 2011 S3-Parts British National Clubman Trials Championship at the ‘Wallace Cup’ Trial yesterday. ROSS DANBY was the best JSTGGUK Rider finishing joint second overall on two marks with Sam Connor behind winner Ben Morphett who lost one mark. SAM HASLAM (JSTGG) lost 8 and was joint 9th overall. RCM GAS GAS Rider Ricky Wiggins won the S3 National Class also on two marks. DAN THORPE (JSTGGUK) was second in the S3 class (7th overall) on five marks. It looks like the Trial was a bit on the easy side with the top dozen riders dropping below 10 marks. It is however a ‘Clubman’s’ Championship with an Expert Class so low scores are expected. Results
The old army camp at Harwood Dale was back to its best on Sunday as Scarborough DMC got their 2011 trials season under way. As winter released its icy grip Michael Brown proved in sparkling form aboard the new Gas Gas Santa brought him, easing to a fine win over Beta uk man Ian Austermuhle in a strong Masters Class. Karl Dodderidge grabbed the Expert class from Richie Kendra, but it was bubbly, talented Hannah Styles, British Girls A class Champion from Stoney Middleton who grabbed ride of the day, beating `Mr Consistency` Colin Bailey to the A class win. Conditions were greasy and the rain didn`t help. Pat Galway used all his expertise in producing a three lap, twelve section course to test the 95 riders. The first section took marks off the early numbers, but once the muddy slot widened, youngsters Joe Clements, Dan Peace and Hannah Styles all cleaned in great style. The tight turn and a wicked climb over treacherous roots of Keith Ellis`s proved a real stinger. Inter winner Simon Pickard collected a maximum here, as did Andy Woodall. Dodderidge and Kendra got feet down for threes, but Dan Peace eased the little Beta 125 through for just seven lost. This gave him advantage over Clements to win A class. On the masters route Brown proved superb. After cresting the final cambered rock step first lap, he somehow positioned the Gassers back wheel on a foot square angled rock to create grip for the near vertical climb out. Unbeleivable riding. Austy was next best with a two and two dabs, then outperformed the entire Masters class on the huge rocks of section ten with three brilliant cleans. MRS Sherco man Andy Chilton and Guy Kendrew debuting the radical AM sponsored Ossa were having a great battle to finish level on points. Kendrew had an exceptional ride, the Ossa proving smooth and powerful, gripping well and when fired at the big steps power was instant. Margaret Myers had a heart stopper of a section. The Masters had to fire over a three foot gap before climbing right to exit. If they got it wrong, the twenty foot plunge into the river on their right looked daunting. Thanfully, it worked well, Browny and Austermuhle best.
The little ones - C class - were finding it hard going but Zac Collinson, Ben Teasdale and Joe Clark all got a finish under their belt. Scarborough DMC would like to thank all involved. RESULTS
Congratulations to the organizers who got the sections and ‘format’ of the event spot on. ADAM RAGA took a well deserved and very easy runner up place behind the winner Toni Bou. Adam took a while to ‘get going’ in the heats but nevertheless qualified for the final no problem. Once in the final (and I think after some words of wisdom and encouragement from his new Team mate/Manager Dougie Lampkin) Adam looked a complete different rider and looked in awesome form. MICHAEL BROWN finished 5th which I was happy with. Michael looked relaxed and confident on the GG and is certainly ‘work in progress’. He lacked a little aggression initially but once he gave it 100% he looked fantastic. Michael was on the whole happy with his performance but gutted to finish only one mark behind Dibz. He injured his thumb slightly on his first section but should be ok in a few days. DOUGIE LAMPKIN finished 7th. Doug had a massive crash on the very first section and was VERY lucky to escape un-injured. He lost control and his new gasser fell to the floor whilst the ‘roof of a fork lift truck’ luckily broke Doug’s fall and only his pride was injured. Factory Kev and Luke quickly fitted a new front mudguard and brace and straightened the front end of the gasser whilst Doug composed himself. Then on the very next section he amazingly was the first rider to jump the huge leap on the PJI bottles which was impressive after such a big crash. This was awesome to see especially as he finished the section with puncture #1. This was his first of two punctures which strangely affected most riders including Toni, Michael and I think also Dibz and Alexz. Doug punctured ‘again’ on the skips which resulted in another ‘5’ and out of the final. Not the best debut but I actually think he looked good and his final result does not reflect how he was actually riding. Like I said in a previous press release, Sheffield would be good this year to see Doug, Browny, Dibz and Wiggy all on new bikes and the UK winter weather does not help in the preparations for this early January event one bit. They have all been out of the country riding but not for long so I think they ALL put on a good show. For me it was strange to see these riders on their new bikes but I’m confident they will all settle as the weeks tick by. Our work with Michael has only just begun and I’m sure that you see him improve the most…like I said…..work in progress! Doug is no longer ‘just a rider’ and has spent more time in meetings @ the GG factory than riding his bike in the week he had there before Christmas. Doug has to also got to get used to his new GG CC300 Enduro bike which he will debut next weekend at Eddy’sspo Extreme Race January 23rd. Thanks to Trialmag for pic of MB. Results: Final: Qualifiers: Eliminated:
It hard to believe that this is the first time ever that a GG has won the event. We have had some fantastic results at the Scott during the past 22 years with Colley and Braybrook etc. with countless second places, fastest time awards, best on observation awards and numerous ‘Best Team’ awards etc but never the overall win which means the most! So better late than never and JAMES DABILL has made this possible to finish a really good year for him and for Gas Gas. The Scott is the last ‘major’ event of the year and Dibs has added this win to the BTC title, #4 WTC indoor and #6 WTC outdoor so he has had a really good year. To win you need not only a good rider and good bike but the whole ‘Team’ needs to be strong so I must take this opportunity to thank Jack Lee and also to GGUK’s chief spanner-man ‘Factory Kev’ who has provided Dibs with a winning machine for all his UK competition. There’s no better feeling than seeing your bike and your rider win major events so I to am over the moon. ROSS DANBY, JSTGGUK equaled his best result with a fantastic 6th place. SAM HASLAM, JSTGGUK was 8th. Sam lost a bit of time with a puncture before Grouse moor and struggled a little with his recent injured hand. DAN THORPE, JSTGGUK was 10th. Not Dan’s best Scott result but still Top 10 which is a fantastic achievement. CRAIG ROBINSON, JSTGGUK was 12th and a personal best result for Craig so well done. Phil Alderson (GG) was 16th and won his millionth Scott spoon! Jonny Walker (GG) was 20th. Sam Ludgate (GG) was 22nd. So for GG to win the event overall and have 8 Scott spoon winners is all good J The GG Girls battled it out and both finished. KATY SUNTER was 58th and EMMA BRISTOW was 62nd only three marks behind. It’s also worth mentioning that both these girls thrashed GGUK’s spanner-man Luke Meredith! Sorry Mezz, I had to mention it! Well done to you as well though. Special congratulations to WOODY HOLE for finishing the event. Proud of ya Woods and so is ALL your family. Thanks to my Dad for the pic of Dibs. John Shirt Jnr.
This weekend was the last round of the 2010 British Trials Championship. JAMES DABILL, No1 JST GGUK Trial Team rider was already crowned the Champion after the last BTC round so Dibs rode without the pressure of winning the title. The only pressure was to win all 8 rounds of this year’s series to go undefeated which is a fantastic achievement. Dibs rode confidently well in front of his rivals and lead from start to finish claiming the win for the eighth time. Thanks to Jack and to Kev for prepping the bike. ROSS DANBY, JSTGGUK equaled his best BTC result of the year with a solid 4th place only 6 marks off the podium. This fantastic last round result moved Ross to his career best 4th overall for the 2010 Championship. SAM HASLAM, JSTGGUK retired yesterday after injuring his hand after a bad brash on the first lap. This is a blow for Sam after his recent good form and now has three weeks to be fit for the Lakes Two Day Trial and The Scott. I’m not sure as to the extent of the injury yet… Sam has still finished 5th overall in the Championship, three points behind Ross. CRAIG ROBINSON, JSTGGUK finished 7th yesterday and 10th overall in the Championship. GARY MacDONALD, JSTGGUK IS THE 2010 BRITISH ‘EXPERT A’ TRIALS CHAMPION! Gary only needed a top 8 result yesterday to win the title so all was to play for. He rode relaxed all day and although leading after the first lap Jack Sheppard had two awesome laps to snatch the event win. Gary was very consistent with three laps of 6 marks lost to finish 2nd. He has been on the podium all year and deserves this years title. Gary is actually the first ever Scottish rider to win a British Trials Championship! This has been his first year riding a JST GAS GAS and to win the British Expert Championship together with the Scottish Trials Championship and best GG rider in the SSDT this has been a very successful year for Gary so from all of us here at GGUK…..CONGRATULATIONS!
RICKY WIGGINS, ALBIONGG had his best BTC result of the year finishing on the podium with a fantastic 3rd position! Ricky has finished 4th overall in the Expert A Championship. GUY KENDREW, GG won the Expert B Class. Guy has finished the Championship strong this year and has finished 2nd overall in this Class behind winner Darren Brice CHRIS STAY, JSTGG won the Youth Class with a narrow one mark win over his pal and JST team mate GEORGE GOSDEN. CHRIS SHORT, JSTGG had a bad day at the office in 4th… So GG won all 4 Classes JJ Thanks to Trialmag for the pic of the two British Trials Champions and GGUK importer John Shirt.
CRAIG ROBINSON had a mega ride at the Man 17 ‘Hipwell Trial’ winning easily. It was also the penultimate round of the Ladies British Trials Championship at Tong near Leeds. Becky Cook won and No1 JST Lady Rider EMMA BRISTOW was 2nd with team mate KATY SUNTER 3rd. ACE GG Rider Joanne Coles did not ride due to illness… HANNAH STYLES (left) has won the 2010 ‘Girls A Class’ British Trials Championship. She has won every round so far this year and wants to win the final round in the I.OW before moving into the Top Ladies Class next year. Well done to Hannah from all at GGUK J The final Ladies and Girls BTC Round is in the IOW on October 10th.. Our A Class Youth Rider CHRIS STAY won the IOW Championship Round.
It was the penultimate round yesterday organised by the Torridge and District MCC in Devon and he needed a 2nd place finish to win the title with one round remaining which is the Kent round in September. Dibs won the event yesterday easily from Alexz Wigg in second and Michael Brown in third. The event yesterday was a mix of true Devon muddy sections with some rock outcrop sections. The practice lap was needed on the Saturday to ‘bed in’ the sections for the actual Trial yesterday. Dibs started well with an easy clean on section 1 to settle the nerves. A bad five on section four (my fault, sorry pal) and another five on eleven did not stop Dibs taking the lead after the first lap. It was close though because Wiggy was good on the first lap to equal Dibs’ score of 16 marks lost. It was the second lap that won Dibs the Trial with a fantastic lap of 12 marks lost. Browny was next best on 24 and wiggy 34. The last lap was nearly as good but a bad five on section ten where he cleaned on the previous laps. This frustrated Dibs but he wasn’t too fussed because he sensed the Trial and title was his with two sections to go. A really good smooth ride on eleven impressed the spectators on the slippy grass onto big rocks. An easy clean on the last to finish the Trial on 44 marks, 24 marks better than his closet rival. Trial won, Title won, JOB DONE! SAM HASLAM (JSTGG) also has his best BTC result of the year finishing in 4th place to now hold 4th in the Championship. Sam is battling with his team mate ROSS DANBY (JSTGG) for the No.4 bib in the Championship. Ross was 5th yesterday and is only two pints behind Sam in the standings. CRAIG ROBINSON (JSTGG) had a career best result yesterday finishing 6th which is EXCELLENT! Craig has been plugging away at the BTC for a while now in the Top Class and this result rewards his efforts. Good on ya! GARY MacDONALD (JSTGG) was second in the Expert A Class behind Jack Sheppard. Gary has an 13 point lead in the Expert A Championship and needs an 8th place or higher at the last round to win the Expert Title. Gary has been consistent all year being on the podium at every round. RICKY WIGGINS (ALBIONGG) was 4th in Exp A and hopes to finish 4th in the Championship. Guy Kendrew was the best GG rider in Expert B Class with JSTGG rider DAN FARRER next in 4th. CHRIS STAY (JSTGG) won the Youth Class for the second time running. Chris enjoys these tough Adult BTC events and is looking forward to the last round in Kent. JSTGG Riders Chris Short and Goerge Gosden were 3rd and 4th .. I must take this opportunity to congratulate James on winning the Championship this year. He has been superb all year and won every round so far. It would be nice to win all 8 rounds and Dibs (has this been done before anyone…maybe Dougie or Saunders did?) will go the last round relaxed knowing the title is his. He has defended his No.1 bib this years maturely and professionally and lets hope he can go one better in his World Outdoor campaign and grab that #6 bib at the final WTC round first weekend in September. Like all Championships it’s a Team effort and I must also congratulate JACK LEE who a massive part of the Team and also James family for ongoing support, mum, dad and fiancée Emma. Also a big thanks to all James’ valued sponsors GGUK, www.trialendurodirect.com, Monster, Motul, Michelin, Hope, TRC, Renthal, Jitsie, Airoh, Novogar, S3, DP brakes, Yoomee. Also BIG thanks to all the staff here at GGUK especially Kev and Luke for preparing a Championship winning Gasser all year. Thanks to Heath Brindley for the pic attached of the winning ‘Team’. John Shirt Jr Inter Centre Team Trial The ‘Inter Centre Team Trial’ was on at Scarborough and it was the Youth and Women’s Classes on the Saturday and the Adult men on the Sunday. Yorkshire won the Youth event on Saturday helped by two JSTGG Riders JACK STONES and JACK PRICE. CHRIS SHORT helped his South East Team finish 7th. East Yorkshire won the Girls event with HANNAH STYLES (JSTGG) helping them for the win! Sunday was the main Adult men event and congrats to the South East Team who won. Numerous JSTGG Riders were there including No.1 Rider JAMES DABILL and DAN THORPE who rode for the Yorkshire Team and finished 3rd. Dibs was the second best ‘individual’ score dropping 2 marks. Micheal Brown was best with no marks lost. The South Midland Team were 3rd with SAM HASLAM and JACK LEE both competing. Sam was joint 6th in the individual scores. ROSS DANBY was in the Midlands Team who finished 8th. Results
Dibs won the qualifying session and blitzed the Final as well. Other JSTGG Teamsters were Ross Danby 5th, Sam Haslam 7th and Craig Robinson 9th. Results: Qualifying: 1: James Dabill (JST Gas Gas) 7; 2: Michaela Brown (MRS-Sherco) 17; 3: Jack Challoner (Beta-UK) 24; 4: Alexz Wigg (Beta-UK) 30; 5: Ross Danby (JST Gas Gas) 32; 6: George Morton (Beta-UK) 37; 7: Sam Haslam (JST Gas Gas) 43; 8: Graham Jarvis (MRS Sherco) 49; 9: Craig Robinson (JST Gas Gas) 53; 10: Ben Morphett (Beta-UK) 54. Final: 1: Dabill 9; 2: Brown 17: 3: Wigg 25; 4: Challoner 27. CHRIS SHORT, our Top JSTGG Youth A Class rider won the Youth A Class BTC round on Sunday in Northumberland. Its not clear who is the actual 2010 British A Class Champion for this year yet because Chris and Richard Sadler have both tied on points…..more news on this when I know.. Chris Stay and George Gosden did not make the long trip from the Isle of Wight for this round after they both rode last weekend at the Adult BTC in Yorkshire. Tom Dexter (ACEGG) was 5th. Bradley Cox (ACEGG won the B Class so congrats to him! Young Jack Price (B+BJSTGG) was 6th and Jack Stones (JSTGG) was 6th. Billy Green who the D Class small wheel Class on Saturday and THOMAS KNIGHT (son of Juan) was 2nd!......both on GG TXTBOYs.. JOANNE COLES (ACEGG) finished 2nd at the Women’s BTC Round in Richmond. She lost the same marks as the winner Becky Cook but lost out on the tie-break. EMMA BRISTOW (JSTGG) finished 3rd who was riding very well but spoilt a possible win with a bad last lap.. KATY SUNTER (JSTGG) was 4th at her local round. HANNAH STYLES (JSTGG) easily won her ‘A’ Class from Danielle Whitham JAMES DABILL, No.1 JSTGG rider has just won the 6th round of the 2010 British Trials Championship. The Yeadon and Guiseley club organised a superb event at the ‘Brimham Rocks’ venue near Harrogate in North Yorkshire. The sections were spot on for most but slightly easy for the very top boys making for a nervy event. Dibs prefers it hard where he seems to relax more. Easy events make him nervous but I have to say he really impressed me yesterday with his cool attitude and focus. There was no ‘showboating’, he just got on with the job in hand. He took the lead on the first lap with 4 marks lost. His second lap was going equally as well until section 7 which was the hardest. A really tricky jump onto some really slippy rocks. Dibs jumped and landed short which wasn’t a problem because he could use a big dab to get back online. One more inch was ‘needed’ advised his minder Jack Lee but Dibs felt happy, set off and slid off for an instant ‘5’. Dibs knew instantly that Jack was right and nothing needed to be said. What dibs did next impressed me….he totally shut the ‘5’ out of his head, focused, and leveled the very next section for an easy clean. He then finished the lap in a confident mood. So, the bad ‘5’ didn’t bother him…head was firmly ‘on’ Then with a 10 mark lead going into the last lap, Dibs relaxed and won with ease, He was very mature on section 11 which was possible to clean but dodgy…He went for a deliberate ‘dab’ each lap which was mature riding from the Dibsta. Shaun Morris JSTGG had a bad day in 5th. He did however recover later on and had a really good last lap of 13. Ross Danby JSTGG got the better of his Team mate Sam Haslam and finished 6th with Sam 7th. These two are now on the same points in the Championship race with two rounds to go so expect a fight for 5th in the Championship. Craig Robinson JSTGG was a fighting 11th. GARY MacDONALD JSTGG was a solid second behind really ‘on-form’ Jack Shepperd who won. Gary really wants to win the Expert Title this year and now has a 16 point lead with two rounds to go which is nice…..still along way to go though Gary….keep pushingJ RICKY WIGGINS ALBIONGG had his best BTC result of the year and finished a fine 4th! GUY KENDREW GG also had his best BTC result of the year and WON the Expert B Class. WELL DONE! CHRIS STAY JSTGG won the Youth class with his Team mate and friend George Gosden in 3rd. AceGG rider Tom Dexter was 4th,. Thanks to Jack for being Jack! Thanks to Trialmag for pic.
This is a lot better from Dibs and well needed after a month away from home. With Dibs not getting the results he is capable off in France and San Marino this 5th place (actually joint 4th but missed out on the tie-break) was very welcome by the Team. As ive said his riding in both France and San Marino was not bad….just too many mistakes. The week in between San Marino and Italy Dibs and Jack worked on his weaknesses and was again confident for the weekend, again good in Practice so all was ready! Dibs was his normal quite and focused self on ‘Race Day’ and morning practice warm-up went well. A slight carburation change made the bike stronger at the bottom and he was happy. So off we went to the first section which all the top boys cleaned (Fuji dab). Dibs spat a rock out near the end and fived L. He kept his head knowing it wasn’t his fault. The second section was easy but tricky and he had a scrappy two…..not a good start. The third was mega hard with a massive climb and step. Fuji,Cabes and Doug all fived this in front of Dibs. He flattened the section with a stunning clean….game on! Two bad fives on the slippy grass of five and six and another five for flattening the flag on eight…..arrgh!! Dibs again kept his head and battled on. Then we got to section 14 with a big and I mean BIG concrete step which had Dibs’ name written all over it. Toni, Adam, Jeroni, Cabes all fived! Fuji cleaned but only with the help of the big sump-plate on the Mont and some strong toes! Dibs seems so much more relaxed when he sees something massive….his technique is flawless on big stuff and he actually pi**ed the step on the back wheel…no sump/toes needed…awesome! An easy clean on 15 to finish the lap in a very positive mood…and the crowd loving him! He didn’t know but he was still bloody 7th after this first lap but seemed to flick a switch in his own head after his awesome ride on 14 and went on a roll. To get his first lap score of 30 down to 13 on his second you can imagine his second lap was pretty good. A daft ‘two’ on the easy stream of section 10 was the only really poor ride of the lap. Id have cleaned it….honestly! When we got to ‘his’ section 14, Claudi from the GG Factory told us that he must clean the section to get 4th so we wound Dibs up. The crowd was ready and Dibs jumped into the section. A needed dab on the first part was gutting but it was all about the crowd for the final step. Dibs revved the gasser until it nearly burst and leaped at the step and pi**ed it again. Another easy clean on the last to finish the lap happy, Shirty happy, Jack nearly happy and Factory happy. Bit gutted to miss out on 4th but happy to beat Doug and increase his points gap for 6th in the Championship. Thanks to Jack and isma. Pic: Trialmag Adam was mega again to finish 2nd and now a slim lead on Fuji for second in the Championship Loris beat Browny so is now 8th in the Championship. CONGRATULATIONS TO POL TARRES AND GAS GAS FOR WINNING THE 2010 YOUTH WORLD TRIALS CHAMPIONSHIP! JAMES DABILL No.1 JSTGGUK Team Rider has just finished 7th at the France WTC yesterday. As I arrived Friday late afternoon to the mid 30s temperature in the French mountains I guessed we’d be in for a tough weekend. Dibs was again good in practice on Saturday morning before we viewed the sections in the afternoon. After seeing the first few sections we knew that the sections were very tough and very long for the 1 minute rule. They were very steep in places and there were alot of places where Jack was needed so Jack knew he’d be under pressure on ‘race day’. With only 1 minder allowed (and me in the corridor) it was going to be a tough day for all the Team. Half way around viewing the sections the heavens opened into a massive thunderstorm that lasted all the late afternoon and so the riders viewed the rest of the sections as best they could knowing that the organizers would have to alter most of the crazy sections before Sunday. This they did but they were still very tough and long. Dibs was riding very well and started confidently. He was awesome on the massive step on ‘4’ but then cruelly snapped the tape on the easy end part. This was the bad luck that we could have done without. A good ‘two dab’ ride on the next section 6 got his head back on. He then had a bad run of fives but finished with two easy cleans on the last two sections. The second lap went pretty much the same and the hot conditions were affecting us all. We were all struggling with heat and two punctures didn’t help. Dibs battled on and was awesome on 9, 10 and 13 with some fantastic riding that we all know he is capable of. The problem is these three mega rides were not good enough to achieve better than 7th on the day and we were all disappointed and exhausted at the finish. Still 6th in the Championship, 11 points ahead of Doug with three WTC days remaining… Next Round this coming Sunday in San Marino where he will NOT be 7th again! Thanks to Jack. Thanks for trialmag for pic. Saturday was also the first round of the Women’s WTC and I’m proud to say that we had two British GAS GAS Riders on the Podium! Joanne Coles (ACEGG) was awesome on her PRO125 finishing 2nd and Emma Bristow (JSTGG) rode her heart out on her new RAGA250 to finish on the podium in 3rd. Massive congratulations to you both. Hannah Styles revved her JST 125 Gasser to 13th place and three Championship points for the 17 year old. Dan Thorpe was the best GG rider at the infamous Alan Jefferies National Trial finishing 2nd to Ian Austermule. JSTGG Teamsters Shaun Morris was 6th and Sam Haslam fresh from his Dave Rowland win was 7th. The Trial was low scoring with very close results.
The event itself was superb and in my opinion was the best WTC event so far this year. The Trial was slightly different to the normal WTC Rounds in the fact that the sections were ‘slightly’ more traditional and quite long for the 1 minute section rule which meant the riders had to keep moving which made for some real exciting riding. Some of the top riders were not impressed after viewing the sections on the Friday but they must realize that they must be able to ride all kinds of terrain to be the best. Our weekend started well, Dibs was excellent in the Friday mornings practice session matching everyone. He was also happy with sections when we viewed them Friday afternoon. He was again on the pace in the warm up practice session on Saturday morning. He started the event with an easy clean on section 1 to settle the nerves which he was under because of his home GP. He fived the big step on 2 because of lazy legs. He fived 3 ‘overdoing’ the rock face for another quick 5. He recovered well with an awesome ride on possibly the hardest section 4 with a fantastic 1 dab ride and I thought ‘here we go, he’s on it!’ Unfortunately he struggled for most of the lap with more bad fives on 5,7,12 and 14. He boosted his confidence with a stunning clean on the last section which was needed to cheer us all up going into the second lap. Six fives on his first lap was simply too many. He was more like ‘Dibs’ on the second lap improving on his first lap by 16 marks which lifted him one place to finish just ahead of his pal Michael Brown who was riding well. He has some fantastic rides on the second lap and certainly redeemed himself and the Team. As we summarised the day, Dibs knew that he simply had to battle with his demons and improve dramatically on Day 2. Day 2 Dibs woke earlier than usual and went for a quick Mountain Bike ride to wake his legs up and maybe just to clear his head a little. He didn’t push himself too much in Sunday morning practice but what he did do he did well and he seemed more relaxed. He started well and got out of section 2 which was good. Another ‘dumbass’ five on 3 when he crashed down the rock face again (which wound me up!) seemed to fire him up because from then on he rode more like the James Dabill we know and looked cool and confident with some stunning rides to finish the lap on 23 and in 6th place. He was consistant on the second lap and was again amazing on section 4. I must say that James reminds me so much of working with Steve Colley because he will do the most amazing things on a bike and then at the very next section have a complete brain fade moment and do something really dumb. As I said he was riding very well on his second lap and after the clean on 4 he was buzzing. Good on 5 for a dab then onto 6 which he struggled with which was strange because it wasn’t difficult at all. He had cleaned all but the end of the section and through rushing revved the bike on a slippy boulder and nose dived the final step for a reeeeeally dumb five. Not good and he knew instantly it was his fault and probably felt sick (I did!). We blasted off to 7 which gave him a little time to refocus. He was brilliant on the stream sections near the ‘gondolas’ and again awesome on 13 when it started to rain. We raced back to the finish to try and do the last two sections before the heavens opened. Sections 14 and the awesome last section were very slippy and unfortunately fived them both which actually didn’t harm his finial result of 5th which was good and a lot better then Saturday. Dibs is now 6th overall in the Championship, 15 points behind Jeroni and 13 points in front of Doug. Thanks to Jack and isma. Thanks to Trialmag for the pic. GARY MacDONALD (JSTGG) had a fantastic weekend riding as a guest in the Junior Class and finished 7th on Day1 and 8th on Day 2 beating Jonathan Richardson easily on both days. CRAIG ROBINSON (JSTGG) finished a fantastic 12th place on Day 1 scoring 4 World Junior points. CHRIS SHORT (JSTGG) was 10th both days in the Youth Class. JAMES DABILL No1 JSTGGUK rider has just won Round 5 of the 2010 British Trials Championship. The Neath Motor Club event was at a new venue near Ammanford in S.Wales. Nobody knew what to expect and congrats must go to the club for organising a very good event. A little on the easy side (helped by excellent weather) but with a new venue it’s difficult to gauge the sections perfect. Dibs was in a relaxed mood which was good because I know how much he wanted to win first time out on the new RAGA bike. He was leading after the first lap with only one mark lost but a couple of slack dabs on lap 2 saw him slip to second behind ‘on-form’ Browny. Dibs was still relaxed and although under pressure going into his last lap he rode confidently. A couple of slack marks didn’t worry him and he was under control for his 5th straight win of the series. Wiggy was second and Browny third after suffering ‘mechanical gremlins’ on the last lap. This was a good win for Dibs because he hates easy events when he knows his rivals can get near to him. Thanks to Big Jack and Factory Kevsta Thanks to Trialmag for pic. Team Dibs now moves to FORT WILLIAM this coming weekend for the UK Round of the WTC where we NEED your support. Please come and cheer Dibs on at what will be the best WTC event of the year.. www.ukworldtrial.com SAM HASLAM (JSTGG) was also out for the first time on a new RAGA bike and had his best BTC result of the year with a solid 4th place. Sam looked good all day and seemed to be in a more confident mood than usual. His last lap of just ‘7’ was impressive. This helped him beat 5th place JR by 15 marks.. ROSS DANBY (JSTGG) is lucky not to be in hospital after an awesome crash on the Saturdays practice lap. Ross gave it to much gas on section 2 and had a monster crash. This defo unnerved Ross (as it would anybody) but he was also thankful that he was ok. Ross finished in 6th place recovering well after a dodgy first lap. Sam and Ross are close again this year and are only separated by one point in the overall Championship. SHAUN MORRIS (JSTGG) was also going well until section 8 where his chain came off which wrapped around the front sprocket which locked the engine solid causing internal damage. Shaun maturely asked for ‘fives’ for the rest of the event to finish 9th and still 7 championship points. CRAIG ROBINSON (JSTGG) was back in action after his broken hand and although still not 100% fixed Craig was eager to ride this weekend and looked very good in places to finish 10th. Good to see him back J GARY MacDONALD (JSGGG) was also out for the first time on his new RAGA bike and WON the Expert A Class on only 3 marks. This was an even closer Class with Andy Chilton 2nd on 4 marks and James Fry on 5 marks. This was a good win for Gary especially as his nearest rival Jack Sheppard had a bad day. DAN FARRER (JSTGG) finished 2nd in the Expert B Class and equaled his best BTC result of the year. CHRIS STAY (JSTGG) was 2nd in the Youth Class spanking his Team mate CHRIS SHORT who finished 4th. DAN THORPE (JSTGG) chose to ride the fantastic Wainwright National Trial and WON AGAIN making it now 101 National wins! JACK STONES (JSTGG) won the B Class at the Youth ‘Scott Trial’ (The Mintex Trophy) and JACK PRICE (B+BJST) was 2nd. Pricey was gutted to have a puncture which may have cost him the win. HANNAH STYLES (JSTGG) was the best female, 8th best A Class and 19th overall. Hannah enjoyed the event and was disappointed to also have a puncture.
Round
2 of the European Trials Championship in Sunday was the Adult and Juniors This coming weekend we return to BTC action for Dibs and co, the ‘Wainwright’ National Trial and the ‘Mintex’ Trophy Youth event.
Dibz finished two marks behind Kenichi Kuroyama on Day 1 who always upsets the wtc regulars at his home GP. Dibs was gutted because he got caught out half way round the second lap when it started to rain which made the latter half of the last lap very difficult for him. Both Dibz and Jack were happy with his level of riding and although the rain annoyed them both he was pleased to beat Cabestany. Day 2 and 6th again… Dibz’ first lap dropped him to joint 7th with simply too many fives. A good second lap was needed which he achieved but only lifting him one place higher to finish 6th beating Kenichi and pay back from the previous Day. After 4 rounds Dibz is a solid 6th place in the overall Championship on 50 points. He is 15 points behind Cabes who is 5th on 65 points. Dibs will continue to fight and now looks forward to his home GP in three weeks time in Fort William. CONGRATULATIONS to ADAM RAGA / GAS GAS who won Day 2 ! Both Adam and Dibz will ride the ‘NEW Raga Replicas’ at the UK Round. http://www.ukworldtrial.com/ For more reports and full results from Japan checkout www.trialmag.net and www.trialscentral.com websites. DAN THORPE (JSTGG) won the Alan / Novogar National on Sunday and recorded his 100th National Trial win. This is a fantastic achievement and i for one congratulate him. Im not sure if this is an ‘all time record’ and maybe someone can find out but in any case this is an amazing amount of UK National wins and I know it wont stop at 100 ! Dan will no doubt inform me of how many have been on GG machinery but its certainly alot! Well done mate and lets make the Wainwright 101 J Thanks to Eric Kitchen for the pic of Dan. EMMA BRISTOW (JSTGG) and HANNAH STYLES (JSTGG) were at the Women’s and Girls BTC at ‘not so sunny’ Scarborough. The rain made it a tough, high scoring day. Emma was on the podium again in the Women’s Class finishing 3rd behind Joanne and Becky. Hannah won her Girls A Class easily.. Congrats to Joanne Coles (ACEGG) who won again J
Dibs was ‘master-class’ on Sunday and won easily over his Team mate and the rest of the Championship Class riders. With a late start time Dibs was keen to practice on Sunday morning to wake his sleepy legs up on some huge Morlais Quarry steps. This helped Dibs because he started the event really sharp and went to section 6 still on clean. His first lap of just ‘9’ demoralized the opposition with Browny next best on 22. Another two solid laps from Dibs made this BTC event win possibly his easiest to date. Only a ‘brain-fade’ moment on the last section, second lap spoilt his near perfect day when he underestimated the final step. Shaun Morris continues to regain his confidence and was rewarded with a well-deserved runner-up in front of 3rd place Alexz Wigg. Shaun had an average first lap but then had two fantastic laps to make it a GG ‘one-two’. Shaun has helped Dibs in his title fight beating both Wiggy and Browny who won’t have been happy with 4th place on the day. Ross Danby was next best JSTGG rider in 5th who was riding well. Ross got frustrated on the last lap after a big crash on section 4 but kept fighting as normal to grab 5th at the finish. Sam Haslam was 6th, just four marks behind Ross. Sam had three fairly consistent laps and just kept out the No.2 Sherco Rider JR who finished 7th. GARY MacDONALD overcame his food poisoning of the past week to finish 2nd in the Expert A Class and another healthy 17 points to help his championship fight. Gary felt weak all day but eventually decided to make the long journey south for the event. Gary should be very happy with 2nd but I bet he’s gutted about missing out of the win by only 1 mark.. Ricky Wiggins (AlbionGG) had another good 5th place. Guy Kendrew (GASGAS) had another good 3rd place in the Expert B Class with Dan Farrer (JSTGG) in 7th. The Expert B Class was VERY close this weekend with the winner losing 21 marks and Farrer 7th on 29.. The JSTGG Youth Riders were out in force and Chris Short was 2nd in the Youth Class in front of the ‘I.O.W’ boys Chris Stay and George Gosden who were 3rd and 5th respectively. ACEGG rider Tom Dexter was 4th. Thanks to Jack and Factory Kev Pic by ‘MamaDibs’ More GG news…. DAN THORPE (JSTGG) is now only one national win away from the truly amazing Trials record of 100 National wins!! Win No.99 is now his after winning the superb Loch Lomond Two Day Trial at the weekend. Good Luck to Dan this coming weekend where the 2010 Alan Novogar National could mean a very special 100th win for ‘THE’ National Man. Ill be very proud to announce this next National win (whenever it may be) because a massive share of these wins have been on GG machinery.
Dibs was in awesome form this weekend and won in style by 13 marks over ‘on-form’ Michael Brown. The overgrown wood was fairly dry but extremely slippery which never dried completely due to a few light showers. Michael was hoping for severe rain because he was riding at the front whereas Dibs was near the back of the entry doing his own thing. We were praying for the rain to lay off otherwise Browny may have had the advantage. Nevertheless Dibs’ gamble to chill paid off and Dibs rode relaxed all day. He struggled on section 2 which was tricky and soooo easy to ‘five’ which he did on the first and third laps. However he kept his head very well and never panicked. He knew the nature of the venue could trip anyone up for quick fives and whereas Dibs struggled with section 2, his pal Pune struggled with section 10. Dibs was used his head very well yesterday and impressed me. He kept his flamboyant riding style to a minimum on the slippy rocks and had a few sensible dabs that were needed. The top boys now have a welcome weekend off before BTC action resumes in S.Wales in two weeks time. Shaun Morris JSTGG was again on the BTC podium in a fine 3rd place beating SSDT winner Alexz Wigg quite easily. Shaun is getting his confidence back and was good to see him ride like we all know he can do... Shaun is now joint 3rd in the Championship with Alexz. Ross Danby JSTGG was 6th beating his Gasser Team mate Sam Haslam who was in 7th. Craig Robinson JSTGG unfortunately retired due to bad crash injuring his hand. Craig is a tough lad and tried to continue but had to retire in pain. After x-rays late last night it was confirmed that his hand is broken so Craig will miss the next round in 2 weeks time. Fingers crossed he’ll be ok for BTC5 on June 20th. GARY MacDONALD JSTGG ‘smashed’ the Expert A Class and rode very well indeed. Gary won all three laps and beat Ian Austermule by 16 marks. Gary smiled all the way home with a tired smile and eventually got home at 4am this morning! Gary now leads the Championship but only by one point from Ian. Gary is really enjoying the GG now and I think will get better and better as the year goes on.. CHRIS STAY JSTGG also deserves a mention for winning the Youth Class. Chris is another rider that is on-form at the moment after his near win last weekend at the A Class National.. Thanks to Kev and Jack. Pic Trialmag |
