Nagl
is KTM's double power pack for resounding MX1 GP victory in France
Max Nagl of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team put in a perfect day's MX1 racing on Sunday at the French GP to be the clear winner of both motos for his second career GP victory. The win elevated him into third place in the championship standings. Nagl put in two of his characteristic blitz starts and looked unbeatable in both motos as he relished the conditions that changed from wet to dry several times during the races. "I like this kind of condition very much - when it rains and then dries out," the German rider said after the second moto. "Now I am third in the championship, it's my second GP win and I am very happy." Nagl won the first moto with a margin of 16 seconds and the second with a margin of 12. Second career GP win for Nagl Max Nagl: "It was very good to win my second GP after Faenza (2008). I liked this track right from the start. There are not so many lines and you can use your power - and I have plenty of that! After the qualification I did expect a bit more from Desalle, but today I was fast. I had some problems with the roll-offs on my goggles in the first heat but the second heat was easier for me - and there was a big gap between me and the guy who was second," he said. At one point Max had a 28-second lead in heat two and that allowed him to wrap up the race - and the GP - in relative comfort. Like Max, many riders had trouble with visibility as the intermittent rain churned up mud on the circuit. Barragan out with injury KTM factory rider Jonathan Barragan of Team Silver Action did not compete on Sunday as a result of a mid week training accident. He is currently recovering after surgery and it is not yet known when he will be returning to the track. KTM factory team boss Stefan Everts and the members of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team sent their best wishes to Jonathan for a speedy recovery and a healthy return to racing with his KTM factory bike. Marvin Musquin, riding in only his second weekend for his new team, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, finished with a perfect score card on Sunday to thrill his home fans in France with his second consecutive MX2 GP victory in Ernee, France. Anthony Boissiere of HDI KTM France had an excellent weekend, also in front of his home crowd and finished overall second. Third 2009 GP victory for Marvin Musquin finished the day's racing with two holeshots, two dominating moto victories and 50 more points towards his bid for the 2009 MX2 title. It hardly gets better than that and the euphoric fans that flocked to the circuit in northwest France rewarded him accordingly. It was the French rider's third GP victory in the current season. "It's like a dream come true," the 19-year-old new recruit to the Red Bull KTM Factory Team who also won the previous GP in Mallory Park with a perfect score card in his first ride for the team. "I tried to tackle this race with the same motivation as I did in England, but with all the French spectators behind me it was something special." Musquin already looked like the winner in the first moto, which was plagued by rain at the beginning and in the last few laps, causing the hard pack track to become slippery. Many riders had visibility problems and a few had to abandon their goggles. Good bike, good, physical condition for Marvin. "The track was difficult after the rain but I managed to get the holeshot and to be focused," Musquin said. "After that things were quite easy, even if was not so easy to pass because there were only one or two lines. I like my bike, my suspension was perfect and I'm in good physical condition. Also to come here from the last race with the red plate gave me confidence!" Eventful second race for Boissiere Boissiere was also pleased with his weekend even though he had eventful last laps of the second moto. "I was always up there with the rest in the first heat but in the second I had a flat tire in the last part," he said. Boissiere was lying second in the second heat and after the flat tire, eventually finished in seventh, still enough to retain second overall. "I am happy," he said. "I couldn't expect more this weekend. Marvin was very fast and second is a good result for me. Now I will try to get some more good results in the next races." Mixed weekend for Rui Goncalves Rui Goncalves, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team's Portuguese rider who already has two GP victories to his credit had a tough weekend. He dislocated his shoulder in Saturday's qualifying and also got knocked about in Sunday's two races. "Yesterday I was taken out by Frossard and today another rider crashed right on top of me," the bruised and battered Rui reported. He has a large bruise on his left arm, bruising on his back and also got hit on the nose during the incident. "Now this weekend is over and I have two weeks to get back in shape," he said. "These things happen in racing but I plan to come back with my winning form for the next round. Rui still picked up points for his eleventh position and is in fourth position in the championship standings. MX2 GP Results Round 8 1. Marvin Musquin, France, KTM, 25 -25—50 2. Steffi Laier second in France for KTM Germany's Steffi Laier, the only woman full factory rider in the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing put in a strong weekend's competition in Round Four of the Women's World Championship to finish second on the podium at Ernee, France on Sunday. Laier followed up a strong first moto on Saturday, where she finished third, with a second place behind the French rider Lancelot to give her second overall and further secure her second place in the championship standings. Lancelot, who was fast in front of her home crowd on Sunday at the circuit in northwest France, now has 185 championship points, with Laier in second, 24 points behind. With three rounds and 150 points still up for grabs, the talented Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team's young German rider is still in the running for the 2009 title. Steffi Laier: "It was tough here in France but I am still happy to have come second. "I had a bad start in the first moto, but it was better today for the second moto. But going into the first corner the front wheel slipped and then the back wheel and I lost a few positions. Now I hope to get my revenge at the next round in Germany in two weeks time. I'll have lots of people supporting me there and I want to be very focussed and do my best. There are still three GPs to go and much can happen between now and the end of the season," she said.
