Salt & Gold FREERIDERS EXPEDITION is recruiting a team of trail and enduro riders to explore the ADRAR PLATEAU

This January a small team of trail and enduro riders from the UK are set to push their personal limits in a test of nerve and endurance across thousands of miles of sand and rock deep in the Sahara.

After an epic offroad ride to Timbuctu last winter, (soon to be a documentary by Austin Vince) the Salt and Gold expedition project is heading back to Mauritania to discover some of the most exciting desert riding in the Sahara.

“We live on a shrinking planet, a place where the concept of remoteness is getting harder and harder to grasp, but out here in this vast swathe of wilderness it is inescapable. Sparsely populated and little visited, it is not unusual to travel for days without seeing a single vehicle....”

A vast sandstone plateau rising above the plains of the Mauritanian Sahara, the Adrar is an immense and challenging arena for the desert rider. Every terrain is represented, from gnarlysingle track to roller coaster dune fields and 70mph chotts. The sands are crossed with thefaded tracks of more than a dozen Dakar rallys and it is easy to see how racing history was made here time and time again. Most of the time the team will ride without close support, relying instead on a series of secret supply dumps buried in the desert to give them the range needed to reach their goals. It promises to be an immersive experience, an amazing challenge and a great story of people in extraordinary situations. This isn’t an expedition restricted to the sponsored elite, any rider who can handle a bike off road can apply.
