Scorton Enduro

Sunday 28th July saw Chorley MX Club run their annual Scorton Enduro at Fell End Farm, Scorton. The weather was forecasted to be very hot - and that it was - with a sudden down pour watering the track on Saturday tea time. The track was in great condition, ready for the 3 hours that the 120 entry riders had commited for. At 11.15am, Dave Jagger dropped the flag as the experts sped away for the start of the race. It was Lincoln Brewster on the KB Racing KTM that took the holeshot followed by his team mate Lewis Belfield. The next line off were the Clubman in which Andy Noakley led from Jane Daniels. They were followed by the closely contested Over-40's with the Sportsman and Novice classes all getting away incident free.

The lap consisted of great moorland along with some challenging uphill climbs and steep descents, followed by a couple of bog sections which would challenge the riders and once through this section, they headed up to some fast and flowing fields with nice banked turns, throw in a few dry stone wall crossings and hidden ditches to bring them back to the 3 gates where the lap scoring ladies would be waiting to take numbers.

At the end of the first lap, it was Brewster leading team mate Belfield from Gary Daniels who had worked his way through after a poor start. Closely followed by the chasing Experts, Clubman and other classes. All the riders seemed to be enjoying the varied lap that had been laid out for them. Some people were finding the heat too much and were choosing to pit regularly too take on drinks. As most people continued too complete the 3 hour duration, many were glad to see the last lap flag, and then the checkered one.

In the Experts, it was a 1-2 win for the KB Racing team of Lincoln Brewster (above) taking a 1 minute 20 advantage over team mate Lewis Belfield (left) both completing 15 laps with Gary Daniels (right) taking 3rd place with 14 laps from Rob Loney with 13 laps to his credit. In the hotley contested Clubman class, it was Liam Beaty who took a well deserved win from Lee Taylor of Manchester with Kiaran Hankin fresh from his Isle Of Man TT races exploits in 3rd place with young local lad George Knowles rounding out the top 4. All 4 riders completing 13 laps. In the Over-40's, it was another local man from Clitheroe Chris Ball taking the win from Rob Butler both with 14 laps to their credit, with Anthony Crowe in 3rd and Ian Cowburn in 4th one lap down from the top 2 on 13 laps. Another closely fought class was the Sportsman riders with the top 4 all completing 12 laps with Mark Fletcher taking the spoils from Mark Lakeland followed by Paul Heys and David Dudley. The winner of the Novice class Danny Atkinson completing 11 laps one up from 2nd placed William Thacker and Alex Lees in 3rd both on 10 laps from Danny Dover in 4th on 9 laps. Finally, the small Moto X class was won by Rick Hamilton on 11 laps from Stephan Langman and Brian Wright both on 10 laps.

After the winning riders collected their trophies from the presentation, everybody headed home for some shade and refreshments. Many thanks to all marshalls, organisers and helpers that provided such a great event. The next one being September at St Michaels.
