Steve Ireland takes on 24hr race "solo" for great cause.

Steve Ireland will return to the daunting Walters arena in Glyneath, South Wales on August Bank Holiday to take on an even bigger challenge than the fantastic 12 hr D2D race he successfully won in 2006.

Steve is one of the most prominent movers in 2 wheeled off road XC and Enduro sport and has concentrated on bringing quality events like the Tough One, MOTUL GB Hare Scrambles, GBXC and the current WOR OFF ROAD PREMIERSHIP series to the masses of riders that support those events. Having been a very competent Expert level XC rider in his day the 36 year old is still often on a bike but not always competing and with two little daughters and a well known "bad back!!" along with a very hectic organising schedule, Steve's racing has been limited to say the least over the last couple of years.

This will all change on the 30th August 2009 when Mr Ireland will take on the new format at D2D which is an unbelievable 24hr race and he will ride this on his own as an Iron man.

To drive Steve on to the finish of this awesome task is the fact that he is riding for a charity that WOR Events actively support, The CAFT….The Children's Adventure Farm Trust. This superb organisation looks after disabled and disadvantaged children giving so much joy to the lives of little ones that Steve is hoping to raise as much funds as he can as he battles 24hrs of hell around the unforgiving and energy sapping D2D event.

More details will follow on Steve's mission very shortly including what make and model of machine Steve will be riding and also how you can make a sponsorship donation to help Steve and the CAFT succeed.

Steve said today: "I am so proud that I won the event in 2006 (solo Expert Class) and when I saw that the organisers had now made a 24hr challenge available, the young, stupid side of me decided I was going to do that as well, forgetting I'm nearly 37 and unfit with a proven bad back were details my grey matter had dismissed. Obviously it's a massive challenge and the possibility of helping a great cause that is quite close to me will drive me on to complete the daunting task ahead.

I'm having quite good treatment at moment for my back and I'm getting fitter by the week by just doing little life changing things…better diet, not as much alcohol and more bike time!! He he…. I will be ready for the challenge I promise as I really want to raise over £1000 or more for the CAFT. www.childrensadventurefarm.org  will give plenty more information as to the brilliant things they do for the kids.
