Metzeler Melville Scottish Enduro Championship at
Selkirk
Nine events and eight different winners, the Scottish Championship has never seen a season like it. Grant Smith took the overall win for the first time this year as he dialled in his new D3 Racing KTM for the ISDE in Portugal next month. 135 riders signed up to ride in the last Melville Enduro of the year and the Championship is still up for grabs. Beautiful weather welcomed all on Sunday morning, although there was some ground frost that caused a little discomfort for those who had slept in their vans. The marshal's had made a particular effort with the marking as at the previous event in July too many riders had not been paying attention as old routes were still visible. Derek Little was concerned about his back wheel that had collapsed at the 'Dawn to Dusk' but it held together finishing second behind Grant with just four seconds between them after four tests. Neil Chatham hit a post at the finish line costing him 16 seconds and the win, finishing third ends his hopes of winning the Scottish Championship this year as he cannot catch Derek on points. Murray Thomson finished fourth and still has a mathematical chance of winning the title along with Grant Smith. Fraser Norrie finished 5th with Paul Chatham thoroughly enjoying his day in 6th. Gavin Douglas snapped his chain on the first hill on the first lap and Allyn Scotland had problems when his moose pushed his tyre off the rim resulting in his exclusion when he came back to the pits to change it. It was business as usual in the Over 40 class with Sean Woolley winning with times that would have given him a top five finish in the Expert Class. Steven Currie Senior had one of his best outings this year in second with Ex Rally Driver and commentator Robbie Head finishing in third. David McArthur was flying in the special test which seemed to please everybody including David himself taking the win in the E1 class and overall Clubman. Ryan Bruce took the E2 win with second overall and Grampian Club's ever improving Kagan McKenzie finishing in third. Duncan McCormick won the E3 class with fifth place overall. John Allen won the Clubman B class but left it too late in the Season to catch Pawel Reuter who has all but tied up the Championship this year finishing third. Bill Bruce squeezed between them for second place. It looks like Steven Currie Junior has tied up the Sportsman championship as Daniel Boddington retired leaving Steven a clear route to the top. Alastair Millar stepped onto the second spot on the podium with Alan Maclean third. It has been a long season with the postponement of the Aberfeldy ELRAT Enduro and it will be a month before we will know who is the Champion with the ISDE in between. Once again this event would not be possible without the help from the O'Neill family and everyone else who gave up their day to run this most enjoyable Enduro. Alex Telfer at Yarrowford Farm always welcomes everyone and there was a great atmosphere. The next Melville event will be a Motocross at Lochhouses farm in East Lothian on the 15th November, the next Metzeler Melville Hare and Hound will be at Lochhouses on the 13th December, regulations will be available from www.melvillemc.co.uk
