2010
Mantova Airoh Helmet Starcross International Motocross.
The 2010 Airoh Starcross, held on February 5/6/7 at the Mantova GP track, in Italy, will be the opening event to the International racing season. All of the top GP riders, including the 2009 current World Champions of the MX1 and MX2 class, will contest the race, and test their new equipment, bike setups and team organizations, against each other. For the first time in years, one of the main players of 2010 the AMA Outdoor National Championship will also attend the race, with the goal to possibly win all three motos, held on the extremely demanding, natural terrain, rutted sandy track. Winning in Mantova mandates for sharp reflexes at the start, a perfect physical shape for mantaining the pace on the long motos, but a flawless jumping technique at the same time. Mike Alessi from Apple Valley, CA, aboard his new Factory KTM 350 SX-F, will use his speed and the experience he made on the US national and Supercross circuit, trying his very best to steal the show from Antonio Cairoli, Marvin Musquin (the reigning MX1 and MX2 Champions, also KTM Factory mounted), David Philippaerts of the Factory Yamaha Team (the 2008 MX1 Champion), Steve Ramon of the Suzuki Factoty team (the 2007 MX1 Champion), and many other European, top GP contenders. The entire KTM Factory Team from Austria, under the guidance of the legendary, 10 time World Champion, Mr. Stefan Everts, will show up in full force, attending the first official racing appearance of their brand new, linkage suspended KTM 350 SX-F. Most of the industry people expect this bike to revolutionize the motocross racing scene, for years to come, and set new standards, when the rule changes in the engine displacement will be introduced, as planned by the FIM. However, the most recurrent question in the motocross industry now is, if a 350cc, lighter weight bike will be as fast, or faster than the current, well developed and proven crop of the 450cc Japanese and European factory bikes, or than the revolutionary, full-size engine 2010 Yamaha YZ 450 F. No one can answer this question at the moment, except for KTM’s Mike Alessi. He may be the only guy who knows, as he and the KTM Factory team had started testing early, doing a secret session, in Mantova, in the fall of 2009, when the new 350 SX-F was ridden against the 450 SX-F, back to back. Several weeks later, Antonio Cairoli, the 2009 MX1 reigning Champ, did his own, first test session on the new KTM 350 SX-F ; once again, in Mantova. By February 5/6/7, 2010 both KTM riders will have learned more on
their bikes’ potential, but the final answer, on how competitive they
really are, will only come when the Airoh Starcross International Race
will finally take place. The spectators will have a full view of the
track layout, as usual, from the higher level stands, which surround the
entire circuit, and they will also have access to the pits for the
entire race weekend. |
