Full Grid for ISDE Fundraiser Karting Night

There was a full grid last night (Friday) as 64 competetors made up 16 teams for the 1½ hour Endurance Karting race. There were Enduro riders, Motocrossers, Melville Road Racers, Melville off road organisers, Mini Cup racers, XR2 Champions and one multiple World Road Race Endurance Champion. They said they would not mind if I wrote a report and named them but I think they were lying.

There was ½ an hour practise followed by the non stop action for 1 ½ hour round the European Championship track. The first 15 minutes was a bit of a procession as the quickest drivers went out first. Expert Enduro rider Ryan Bruce had taken pole position and went on to lead with his team Bruce and co never being challenged. There were moans and grumbles about the speed of some of the Karts but not from the off road bikers. It was hard to tell who would make up the numbers behind Bruce and co as there were so many driver changes, four per team although the last 15 minutes was pretty frantic.

At the finish it was Bruce and co who were never overtaken followed by last years ISDE Silver Medal Team member Grant Smith. The final step on the podium went down to the wire in the last five minutes between Neil Flockhart's Mark Perfect and me Team Chatham Dad and team manager. Mark managed to hold onto third with me right behind in fourth. Tim Sleigh was the first of the 'roadies' with the rest bemoaning their luck. Max Godin had joined the Chatham family before heading off to Belgium this morning Saturday, although he has promised to return for the Melville Selkirk two day.

At the end of the day it proved a very successful evening with over £700 raised for the ISDE Team. Hopefully this will become an annual event as this years' race was over subscribed. Great fun and great racing, you have not seen the last of the Karting series and the 'roadies' want revenge!
