THE KTM NAPIER TRAIL EXPEDITION

KTM UK is pleased to announce support for Malvern based motorcycle, expedition and survival training company, Trailquest, and their epic Ethiopian motorcycle expedition in support of the Help for Heroes charity.

In 1868 General Robert Napier organised and led a British Army expedition to rescue European hostages being held at the remote hilltop fortress of Magdala. The operation was a huge undertaking as every item of kit, from the heaviest cannon to the smallest ration pack, had to be transported on foot or baggage animal along a treacherous mountain route. High mountains, deep gorges, precipitous drops and fast flowing rivers made the route very challenging and the eventual success of the mission was a testament to the "can do" philosophy of the Victorians. The Trailquest expedition will attempt to follow the route using KTM Enduro motorcycles and in doing so raise money for the fantastic Help for Heroes charity.

The expedition will take place in early 2012 and is planned to take 10 days to complete. If you are interested in putting yourself forward for the expedition, please note that this will be an arduous expedition in difficult terrain.

Applications for the expedition are currently being taken and applicants will be assessed in training sessions held at the Trailquest training facilities in Malvern during 2011. An element of physical training will be undertaken under the guidance of Trailquest Instructors who will be looking for evidence of practical skills, off road riding ability, team spirit and common sense. Team training will be carried out during 2011 for those selected. The costs for these sessions will be part of the overall fee, expected to be around £3500 which includes all flights, motorcycles and training.

KTM UK Managing Director Shaun Sisterson comments “we are delighted to join forces with Trailquest in this epic motorcycle adventure with an absolutely fantastic cause. For those riders lucky enough to be selected it promises to be a trip of a lifetime.”

From Trailquest Richard Jeynes added “we are very pleased to be working with KTM UK on this expedition. It is a true adventure and a fantastic opportunity to follow a trail never ridden before. The opportunity to support Help for Heroes is an added incentive to succeed and we are delighted to support them and their very worthwhile work”.
