ACU U23 Enduro Training Weekend

18 under 23 year old Enduro riders attended a training weekend organised by ACU British ISDE Team Manager and hosted by Team REME at their home in Bordon Hants over the weekend 8/9 Jan.

The Saturday consisted of Bike Prep lessons conducted by Greg Evans and Steve Plain, a motivational lesson ably delivered by larger than life MMA star Gary "Smiler" Turner, and Army Fitness Instructor "Colley" conducted an Army style fitness assessment.

The Sunday started with a repeat fitness assessment followed by a days riding instruction by the extremely experienced team of Paul & Lee Edmondson, Greg Evans, Daryl Bolter and Si Wakely.

Attendees ranged from fairly experienced Championship riders to young riders that had only competed a number of Hare and Hounds type events. The whole event was totally free for the riders, with both days being very full. The Saturday saw a 0715 start with a brief by Dusty and then 18 attendees being split into two groups this ensured that most had to make new friends, lessons commenced at 0800 prompt, Greg and Steve delivered an excellent talk on how to prepare a bike and equipment in order to compete at the highest level. Meanwhile the other group had a session on the importance of hydration and eating correctly, coupled with how they can train at home without the need for expensive Gym membership. Lunch of a fantastic beef bap was served by Allyson and Gayle, followed by an afternoon of personal bike prep, using the tips learn in the morning with Greg and Steve at hand for further advice, whilst the second group were treated to a motivational seminar by MMA star Gary "Smiler" Turner, this concluded with a hypnosis session, with the person getting the most "under" being one of the dads, Tony Altass! With a little spare time some of the lads were treated to a visit to the Tank workshop where Eddie "Mullet" Mason gave an interesting guided tour. The evening was taken up by a basic Army fitness assessment, the lads were told their scores and now have the tools to improve them.

Sunday again started with an early start, the lads were treated to a strength of character test, by having to complete the same fitness test as the night before. With all the bikes prepped the day before and ready to go riding started at 10, under the careful eye of Greg, Daryl Bolter and Si Wakely, meanwhile Paul and Lee Ed were battling along the A303 that was now resembling a scrap yard due to the number of crashed cars due to the unexpected over night frost. Instructional riding took place for most of the day with a varied mixture of serious and fun riding, the day concluded around 1530 with Dusty saying a few final words and thanking all involved.

The event would not have been possible without the help of the following, Team REME as hosts, Dave May-Miller, Allyson & Gayle, catering, Greg, Steve, Colley & Gary, teaching, Paul & Lee Ed, Si and Daryl finally all the riders for attending. Hopefully a similar event will run again in the future.
