Great start to a new season for a new team

Edmondson Racing saw the first full Event support to the FASTEDDY Race team for the up and coming 2011 season at last weekend’s British Sprint Enduro Championship in a very “wet and windy Wales!”

The two day event was eventually cut short due to the horrendous weather conditions but never the less produced some great racing over the Saturday and Sunday. The top team rider was Tom Sagar who ended the weekend as joint leader of the series and “Elite” class with none other than KTM Factory rider David Knight with a win and a 2nd place each. A fantastic performance from Tom on the 450 four stroke especially in the company of Knighter on the big 530 along with a host of other competitors some distance back making Tom’s result even more impressive.

The team had a “Guest” rider in the shape of young 17 year old Aussie, Ben Burrell who had a storming ride aboard a standard 2011 250 XC-F cross country bike to blitz the under 19 class and post times that put him inside the top five absolute times on every run with a second outright fastest time on the last run of day 1. A great achievement from a very level headed and a very likeable young rider who on this sort of performance will without doubt go on to win future titles at world level. We are pleased and proud to have him on the team, well done from us all.

Team principal himself Paul “Fast Eddy” Edmondson (above) had a steady start to finish day one in sixth position and day two in seventh. Feeling the effects of a long absence from bike time and fitness the old skill was still very much in evidence but at the age of 42 the other 30 plus years he has spent with a bike between his legs showed no mercy! No major crashes and a guiding light in the tunnel should now get him focused for a good result in two weeks time at the first round of the BEC championship in East Anglia.

Last but not least younger brother Lee (left) made a promising start after an almost twelve month break from a serious foot injury sustained in a Scottish hare and Hound event back in 2009. The agile little 150 XC ran sweet and was not the disadvantage you may have expected with the deep and muddy conditions of the weekend. A day one result of 13th was improved upon to a day two 10th place and easily the best “Small Capacity” two stroke rider in the elite class.

All in all a great weekend with the first full attendance of all riders and mechanics working in harmony under the Edmondson Racing Team truck with other team personnel keeping the tea, coffee and Bacon Butties flowing all two days. Thanks Abigail......

The difficult conditions made hard work keeping the bikes clean and race ready inside a 30 minute work time / turnaround of each run and in turn showed how well the rider’s individual mechanic performed his duties. This is when we can really call it a “Team Effort” and everyone involved should be proud of their efforts.

Here’s to the Muntjac BEC in two weeks time and hopefully another great event in both results and enjoyment.

Thanks to Tom, Paul, Lee and Benny (the riders). Jonny, Joey, Sam, Rudy and Ryan as the team mechanics and not forgetting Paul S and Abigail for the added hands cleaning bikes and catering.

Till next time,
Regards,
Derrick Edmondson.
