2011 LIQUORLAND SA NATIONAL ENDURO MOTORCYCLE CHAMPIONSHIP

LIQUORLAND MONTAGU ENDURO WILL BE DIFFERENT WITH A FAMILIAR LOOK

The Liquorland Montagu Enduro has become a regular on the list of national enduro calendar and competitors will tackle this event for the fourth consecutive year in the Keisie Valley in the Montagu area in the Western Cape. This year the race will take place on 15 and 16 April and will form the second round of the 2011 SA National Liquorland Enduro Motorcycle Championship.

Organised by the Cape and Swartland Motocross Club (CSMX), all the action will again happen from the Goedemoed Farm and the route will run over 26 farms. All proceeds will go to the local KOO School who is also responsible for the catering.

According to the organisers, riders might recognise the route although it will run in the reverse direction while a new (tough) river section at the top of the course will add more spice the race up even more. The new river section will lead up to the second timed Special Stage called the Time Freight Special that will take competitors for the first time into the mountain. The special stage will be about 12km long and will require pin point accuracy and a smooth ride will result in competitive times.

Riders will then already have completed the first 10km Special Stage (the Liquorland Special) at the start of the loop. This timed section will incorporate a short forest section; the dreaded riverbed section aptly called 'Bloupyp' and a fast single track that will weave through the orchards before they tackle the rocky riverbed just before the finish of the stage.

Competitors in the E1 Open Class and E2 200cc Class will have to traverse the 55km loop three times and the times of both the Special Stages of their second and third passing will count towards their points. Riders in the Senior, Silver Challenge and Master Classes will respectively have to complete two and one laps and will be scored accordingly.

As the Keisie Valley has not had proper rain for years, riders will have to prepare themselves for the dust and heat and will have to prevent dehydrations in the rocky and slow riverbed sections.

Although the race will take place in the school holidays and just before two long weekends, the organisers have received a healthy amount of entries that include all the top enduro motorcycle competitors in the country. Except for the defending class champions, the name of the Kiwi and winner of the season opener, Chris Birch also appears on the list and judging by the close racing action in the first race, the heat will have nothing on the competitive racing at the 2011 Liquorland Montagu Enduro!
