Melville Motor Club Statement

I would like to confirm that if you wish to compete in the Melville Winter Series you will require an SACU motocross licence or a one day licence issued by the SACU, you will need to be the member of an SACU affiliated Club. If your club is considering affiliating to the MCF I would recommend that you ask a few questions as there are major implications from this turn of events.

If you wish to race in any SACU Motocross, Enduro, Hare and hounds or trial you will require an SACU Licence. If you are going to race in any ACU events south of the Border you will need to be a member of an SACU club, if you live in Scotland you will have to produce an SACU Licence to compete in an ACU event! The ACU will not issue licences to riders with Scottish addresses. If your current club changes to MCF you will need to join another club affiliated to the SACU if you require an SACU Licence.

You can enter the Melville Motocross on the 15th January on a 2011 Motocross licence as it does not expire until the 31st January. You can also enter on a £10 Adult day licence as it is not a Scottish Championship event but you must be a member of an SACU affiliated Club, not an MCF affiliated club, the easiest being the Melville as I do not know which clubs are considering a changing to the MCF organisation. You can download forms from www.melvillemc.co.uk

You can compete in the Melville motocross on the 5th February with a one day adult licence as it is not a Championship event but you must join an SACU Affiliated club to qualify for one, not an MCF Club.

If you are only going to compete in Scottish Motocross run by MCF clubs you do not require another licence and you will be able to compete in MCF events south of the border.

What group of clubs are going MCF and who is on their committee? If you do not know find out now!

An English rider with an ACU licence will have to purchase an MCF licence to compete in a MCF motocross. An English rider with a current ACU licence does not require another licence to compete in an SACU event including the Melville Winter Series.

The SACU owns the electronic timing equipment and my understanding is that it will be retained by them. The SACU has agreed to spend an additional £4000 upgrading the system. What timing system will the MCF events use? It took many years to get an agreement for the Scottish Championship system.

There have been many changes at the SACU since the Way Forward committee was formed and I agree it has been too slow but there are more changes just around the corner, some of which could not be discussed publicly.

These are my understandings of the current situation and I have spoken to parties on both sides. I would be happy to discuss this further with all parties involved.

The Melville Club was not consulted over these changes although I would not have recommended jumping in at the moment as I feel the SACU is on the verge of major updates. This action has major implications for all clubs and they should have been consulted. The SACU will hopefully celebrate its 100th year in 2013 and I have pledged to try and help the SACU update itself in time for the 100th Anniversary. I hope there will be a 2013 100th Anniversary SACU Scottish Motocross Champion for all classes who have won a Championship worthy of that title, unfortunately with these revelations it will be very difficult to make that happen now, but it is not too late, the riders will decide which way they want to go. This statement was to ensure riders understand what they need to do to compete this month and next in the Melville Winter Motocross Series and highlight questions that all riders should be asking themselves and their clubs. The Melville Motor Club is sticking with the SACU and I am hoping to see as many of you as possible at Lochhouses on the 15th January.
