Jed Etchells learns a hard lesson
Enduro rarely fails to remind us how cruel a sport it can be. With 5 consecutive wins in the Youth class of the 2020 FIM World Enduro Championship Jed Etchells from the Isle of Man had amassed 126 points - 4 points ahead of his nearest rival going into the final round,
Despite the torrential rain and atrocious conditions Jed set the second fastest time on the opening Extreme test. The road to the top step of the podium lay before him as he started into the 2nd test but it was not to be. His throttle cable snapped and he lost 30 minutes.
Writing on his facebook page Jed said "Donít even know what to write.. Gutted, heart broken... Unfortunately today a small little problem cost me the championship, in the second test my throttle cable disconnected causing me to fall back 30 minutes. Shit happens and itís racing but Iím super happy with my riding this year and I took 5 consecutive wins. Even though I finished last today I still managed to take 2nd in the championship which isnít all bad. The team have been absolutely awesome and I canít thank them enough for there support and faith in me. But this is just the start of my career and I will look at all of this as positive and come out even stronger next year. Thank you to all my sponsors who have put so much into me this year."
