Aberystwyth Enduro Report by Christopher Jones

Following Saturday’s preparation in glorious sunshine the Enduro devil once again popped his head up and ensured that pre-race it rained heavy with strong gusts of wind. Just before the start however the rain stopped and the weather conditions were ideal unlike some of the going and the soaked marshals.

Out of the 75 entries, 68 signed on, one missed signing on after his dog went walkabout in the Welsh hills for 2 hours. Nick Elder put his back out thinking about riding the event and Owain Peckover discovered he was ill on Sunday morning after looking out the window and seeing rain.

Ed Jones and David Brick led the riders away and into the MEM Off-road special test. The two cambers at the start of the test seemed worrying before the start but 95% made it through with no problems.

The dry weather held out for the first lap and the first times test, but this was short lived as the wind and rain returned to sap the life out of a number of riders.

At the end of the first times test the advice of Geraint in relation to lines paid off for Dylan Jones as he won the first test by 1.5 seconds from Tom Sagar then Ed Jones. Dylan went on to win the next 2 timed tests as well.

As the rain continued the experts and championship riders were cut to three laps but completed their last test.

Rheinallt Davies made his first outing in the Championship Class and performed well finishing ahead of regular campaigners. Dylan Jones won followed by Edward Jones, Tom Sagar, Rheinallt Davies, Gethin Price, David Brick. Andrew Edwards retired following a crash.

The Expert class was won by Gareth Davies followed by his brother Tudur Davies, Craig Reynolds then Charlie Evans.

The O/40 class was won by Neil Williams followed by Paul Sagar, Calvin Williams then Alan Price.

The clubman class was won by Leighton Roberts followed by John Hunt, Simon Mackune then Chris Larkin. John Hunt finished in his favoured second position.

The sportsman class was won by Chris Davies followed by Malcolm Davies, Andrew Davies then Dene John.

The Novice class was won by Nathan Morton followed by Phil Rowley. This was Nathans first event after a change from Trials riding and managed to clean the going and set a tidy test time.

Out of the 68 starters 52 riders finished which given the conditions is pleasing for the organisers to see and a big thank you goes to all the marshals, helpers and riders who stuck it out.

The Ralio programme on Thursday night will have coverage of the event.
