BOVINGTON FOREST 03-02-2014
Report & Photos Teamsnapper
After so many events in the south east being cancelled due to weather it
was great news the eve before knowing this very popular event run by DPMCC
was going ahead and with a full entry and with the sun shining it was going
to be a good one and being a traditional forest enduro that had very fast
fire roads and marshland that would test the best ….Ladies and Gentlemen
please start your engines.
Championship Class
Very rarely in a club event do we get 13 championship riders and what a who
who's from the South East and South West, conditions looking like they would
suit the likes of the Hancock brothers with their trials backgrounds but
never count out Nick life or Phil Studley who was badly injured here last
year, Bradley King who seems to have found a new lease and was riding out of
his skin at the end of last year, but two names that slightly stuck out a
bit more were the Crescent KTM boys of Daryl Bolter and Steve Holcombe and
it was Holcombe that led past me on lap one with Bradley King hot on his
tail with all others not far behind except Bolter who I am presuming had a
bad start but true to Bolters mettle he dug deep and rode with his head to
get runners up spot behind his team mate Holcombe who rode without fault
both riders were only ones to complete 14 laps, Bradley King would have
probably got 3rd but got held up in a bog that relegated him to 4th and the
ever consistent Nick Life 3rd, the Hancock boys Ross and Keelan finished off
the top 5.
Expert Class
Another class brimming with talent from both ends of the age scale but
it was the young guns who gave the old boys a lesson today with fitness
being the arsenal of choice and the top 3 without doubt were firing on all
cylinders and made entertaining viewing for the many spectators who were
watching but in true Highlander style "There can only be one" and
that one was Tom Smith whom is getting better and better with each showing
and am sure the Motocross ace will become a great Enduro rider but he did
have to work hard and with unmistakable bright kit of Harvey Dark who looked
like he had eaten a complete box of Ready Brek he glowed that much looked
confident and committed and we can expect big things this year from him, 3rd
went to Jack Penhaligon whom I know very little about except he was dressed
like the Dark Knight which made him appear quite sinister and is very
talented.
Clubman A Class
What a great result for class winner Guy Breeze as was with him prior to
the start and was very down hearted and forlorn as bike was giving him
issues and looked like he was going to pull out and watching him lap after
lap with total commitment and I was as pleased as him when he bought the old
girl home on the top spot and only rider in class to have completed 11 laps,
runner up was Richard Sayer who was running in the top 5 all day and proved
consistency pays off, you can't have mud without some glamour and they don't
come more glamorous than the lovely Katie Walker who led for a while and
then held 2nd spot for some time and unsure what or if anything untoward
happened but claimed the final podium spot in 3rd.
Clubman B Class
That could be renamed The Nixey Class after Jack and Pete Nixey taking
the first two podium spots with son beating father although that may have
changed when they got home, jack was only rider in class to complete 10 laps
and get fastest lap, 3rd went to the giant of a man George Leyland whose
imposing figure is quite alarming when looming in on you from behind and
what great fitness George has and very much earned but deserved that final
podium.
Veterans O 40 Class
Croydon MCC stalwart Joe Beard travelled a long way for his first event
of the year and what a great start with 3rd place, runner up but did hold
the lead for a while was Rob Smith who did not look that happy or
comfortable for the first two laps but then he came to life and looked like
he was having fun, Class winner was Dean Reed who was the most the
consistent rider in the top 5 and not only rode well but used his brain as
well.
Sportsman Class
Very much a battle all day between the podium finishers in this class
with Daniel Stone eventually getting top honours from Sam Baker who also got
fastest lap in the class, 3rd went to Thomas Forehead all top 3 completed 8
laps.
