Frost
Rhayader MCC held their Jack Frost enduro on Sunday 15th March at the Saintswell Off Road practice centre near Bwlch y Sarnau but - despite overnight clear skies - there was no frost as the mild early spring weather continued & there were no complaints. The club limited the entry to 100 riders to give everyone a bit of space, Both checks were at the start. The first stage was a 10 mile loop around the Red Lion. The second stage was a couple of miles consisting mostly of the special stage around the practice track. There were 3 classes & the schedule was 6 laps for clubman, 5 laps for Over 40s & 4 laps for beginners. Marty Jones from Knighton - pictured left - got plenty of fresh air

For the Clubmen the times on the long stage tightened from 30 minutes to 21 minutes & the Vets had to keep pace with Clubmen for their 5 laps. Clerk of the Course Chris Price laid out a lap that avoid some of the toughest parts of the Red Lion but there was still plenty of mud to go around. As the laps counted down there were fewer & fewer riders with time to spare chatting by the yellow flag. MXer Charlie Evans (right) from Llanidloes was the winner on a Gas Gas 250 from Rhys Davies & Andy Muller was third. They were only 3 Clubman not to drop time. David Price from Builth Wells was the Best Vet from Brecon's Neil Williams. Simon Evans from Wrexham was 3rd. Half the vets finished clean on time. Spencer Eve from Llanidloes was the best sportsman. Rhayader Motor Club will again be holding the ever popular Simon Rees Memorial Hare 'n Hounds at the Club's Cwmythig Hill off-road complex. This year's event will be held on Sunday 17th August and again will cater for all Solo classes (Experts, Motocross, Clubman, Over 40's, Novices, Beginners, Ladies & Trail) as well as Sidecars. The Club will set out a 4 mile circuit that will include parts of the Cwmythig Hill MX circuit (venue of the successful Evening Motocross Series) as well as plenty of open going using up nearby fields. This event has always proved very popular over the years and does generally fill up very quickly, so get book in soon to avoid disappointment, there is an entry limit of just 120 riders. The site also boasts a tarmac drive, large hard standing paddock, permanent toilet blocks & excellent parking. As well as all this overnight camping is welcome & the circuit has excellent viewing as nearly 80% can be seen from any vantage point. Rhayader M.C. held their Annual Youth Presentation Night & Buffet on Saturday Evening the 12th April at the Elan Valley Hotel, just outside Rhayader. The evening was a great success with a 100 guests turning up. Enduro star Tom Sagar was on hand to present the awards won in the Club's Youth Fun Trial Series which was run over 3 events last Summer. Round one of BSMA WELSH MOTOX CHAMPIONSHIP was held on Sunday 15th April at Cymithig track near Rhayader. With very hot riding conditions it was a very exciting days racing, especially for the spectators who were in for a real treat!
Next up were the crazy juniors with some very nail-biting racing from the top two leaders, up in front Kieron Cooke and Jack `Fast Eddy’ Edmondson. Taking all three race wins was Kieron with a fantastic display of how to ride your bike!!! In second place was Jack with a style of his own, these boys really were extremely exciting to watch! Taking third position was Joel Hughes who had to battle it out with Ben Davis-Jarman in forth and only girl rider Jade Farley who took fifth.
In the Inter-open class with some very stylish riding was Steve Holcombe taking all three wins and gaining a huge lead out in front! Behind Steve came Nick Morris in second and Chris Evans in third, who closely battled all day. Coming home very well in forth position was Dean Plumstead and in fifth was Ben Francis with a very good ride. Matt Holcombe made the long trip from Devon with brother Steve worth while by taking all three race wins in the seniors with ease. Local ace Shaun `Fast Buc’ Buchan had a superb ride to take second. Rhodri Jones and Aled Price fought all day with Rhodri taking third and Aled in forth, Greg Clarke in fifth. The biggest line up of the day was the Adult class with a big depth of riding talent. In first position was Rowan Jones (top left) who coolly took two wins with Luke Chessell taking race one by a cats whisker. In second was the hard charging Andy Watkins showing the youngsters how it should be done! PAR rider Lee Edmondson took a strong third with Chris Morris and Ashley Woods tying for forth position with Lee Jones making his come back ride in fifth.

18th March 2007 Greg Evans won Rhayader MCC's Cwmcynydd Hare & Hounds at the weekend in atrocious weather conditions as Winter returned with a vengeance. Out of good entry of 143 riders 65 were classified DNF Gethin Price was the runner up, Thomas Davies was 3rd & David Stokes was 4th. Entry forms are now out for this Summer's "Evening Motocross Series" organised by Rhayader Motor Club. Dates for the 2007 series which will again be run on Wednesday evenings will be 30th May, 13th June & 4th July. Again the series will be sponsored by PAR Homes Ltd & Bache's Bargains which help fund the massive £2500 prize fund per night. All 3 meeting will run at the clubs popular hillside venue at Cwmythig Hill, near Rhayader, Mid-Wales. There's classes for all abilities (adult only) - Experts, Seniors, Juniors, Novices & Beginners Last year's series brought in over 15,000 spectators as well as a host of top national riders including Series winner Mark Jones, Gordan Crockard, Mark Hucklebridge, Lewis Gregory, Ashly Greedy & Tom Church to name but a few. Entries are limited to just 30 per group ( Experts, Seniors/Juniors & Novice's/Beginners) so if you are planning to ride get your entries in now to guarantee your ride. The Club attracted 120 members & friends to the function. Special Guest & presenting the awards for the Youth Fun Trial Series (3 events organised by Rhayader Motor Club during last summer) was British Enduro E1 Champion Edward Jones. The night started off with a buffet, then moved onto the presentation, while a film show & disco followed. way back to the start when he stripped the splines on his KTM kickstart.
Kevin Everett from Manchester & Chris Jones gave their KTMs a relaxing
afternoon in the sun. Several riders found their first taste of
competition was a bit more than they expected.

With a fantastic turn out, the Autos were out on the track first.
Taking all three race wins was yet again Alex `Bubba’ Walton (right) who was way
out in front of the rest of the field with an excellent ride. In second
position was Jac Jones who had a absolutely superb days racing taking
second every time, closely on his tail in third was Brooklyn `The
Brookster’ Evans who had some brilliant starts. Local rider Ryan
Rowlands took forth position overall with another very high speed ride and
taking fifth was Harry `Fast Eddy’ Edmondson who also had an excellent
days racing.
With some very close racing in the Inter 85 section Aled Thomas
(left) rode brilliantly taking all three race wins from Jordon Eynon in a very close
second position, both riders having a great time out on the track!
Following the leaders was the famous `Nicholls Family’ with some
outstanding riding shown from Tom Nicholls in third position, Ben Nicholls
in forth and Will Nicholls in fifth, lets keep it in the family!!!!!
