Eastbourne Hare and Hounds 20th September 2009.  Results

As is usual in Eastbourne events the "hare", number 1 Paul Skinner, lead the pack away from the start showing the following "hounds" where to go. Paul, sharing his ride with relative Matt, stayed in this position for the first few laps and it was only when the pit stops and rider changes came into account this changed. Hot on the heels of Skinner was Jamie Burroughs who averaged 13 to 14 minute lap times throughout the whole of the race period.

Working their way through the pack steadily were Bradley and Mel Pocock who also decided to share their ride giving them the edge over most of the other riders. Their average lap time was just over 13 minutes and by about an hour into the race they managed to get to the front of the pack where they stayed for the rest of the race duration.

The dry conditions were excellent for the riders and the club had worked well with watering before the event to mean that there was little dust but the three hour race slowly began to take its toll especially with an average lap of nearly twenty minutes for the bulk of the riders. Despite this the top riders ploughed on and by the end of the race they had completed around 13 laps. Winners, the Pococks, just passed the finish before the flag went out for the three hours and snook in an extra lap to make 14. Second place went to Burroughs on 13 laps, third to Nathan Wood, fourth to Roger Frean, fifth to Ryan Grover and sixth to John and Matt Wood who were also all on 13 laps.

Well done to all who finished the full three hours and we hope that you all enjoyed the five mile plus course. We look forward to seeing you next year.

Eastbourne Hare & Hounds
Sunday 31st May at Broad Farm, Hellingly

The hottest Sunday, so far this season, drew out the southern riders to the first of the Eastbourne MX Club events for this year. The circuit was, as usual, presented well with a good length lap of around 12/13 minutes for the more experienced riders to around 16 minutes upwards for the good clubmen.

The race started slap on 11.00 am with riders taking off in numbered order from the line. Coming round in first position at the end of lap one was Jack Grover, closely followed by Chris salt and Nathan Wood. By the start of lap 3 Jack had pulled away and had gained a good minute lead from Chris.

Mixed in with the field was a rider who is used to racing of a different kind, short sharp races of four laps to be precise. The rider in question was Speedway ace Edward Kennett (left) with Dad in tow doing the refuelling. He managed a very creditable 7 laps in the two and a half hours he was out on the circuit but couldn't quite last the full three hours planned.

The heat did start to take its toll by the time a couple of hours had passed and some riders were seen to be parked up in the refuelling area topping up their tans but Jack continued to pull out his lead, now up to over four minutes, and left Chris to battle with the pack but still keeping his good second position.

The chequered flag went out after the three hours and we awaited the arrival of Jack Grover (left) who was a little behind schedule. Suddenly we saw him appear from the refuelling area to cross the flag it would appear that he was about to refuel as he was getting a bit low but didn't in the end because he saw the flag out and thought that he would risk it. Fortunately he did cross the line but it was noticed that the bike was coughing and spluttering a bit due to lack of fuel. Second place man was still Chris Salt who crossed the line a good six minutes after Jack.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the day despite the heat and said that they are looking forward to the next later in the year. The club wish to say thanks to everyone who attended and a special thanks to the Hillingdon club members who also came down and helped at the event. Results
