"Unique Criq!" "WOR Events hosted the final rd of 2013 of the Michelin Tyres 3hr Hare & Hounds series last weekend in lovely sunshine on a superb track that sadly was being used for the final time. The Nantmawr Quarry mountain is a very special piece of land and has seen some brilliant events over the years but due to being sold and patches of land split up it has now seen it's last WOR hare and hounds enduro over the stunning Shropshire countryside. On a busy weekend for WOR that saw a really busy Saturday RED and then a fantastic Tough One's Little Brother Extreme enduro take place, The Sunday was down on numbers to normal but still offered a quality 3 hr race. 3hr races certainly seem to have fallen in popularity as the majority of riders have seemed to prefer the 2hr Hare Scramble enduro's that are in abundance now, Two hours meaning most riders can attack the race and maybe even enjoy them more due to the not too aggressive track time on the bike and body. One Rider that did not seem to mind the gruelling 3 hr duration last Sunday was young Frenchman, Antoine Criq. The 15 year old dominating his second WOR event in a row as he put on another faultless display of smooth, fast and really very controlled riding for a lad of his years. As stated before this young man has a fantastic future ahead of him and it's a case of watch this space to see more from the likeable Staffordshire based rider. Criq won the event on 22 laps with a 4 minute advantage over runner up Alex West. West is another good young rider coming through and he put in a very neat display on the technical yet flowing enduro track. West completed 22 laps also.
Dave Carty was the top expert veteran but it was Gareth Lloyd that put in a brilliant ride for a fine 4th overall and first in the Clubman Veterans. Lloyd seems to be getting faster the older he gets and had the little 250f Kawasaki going at warp speed at times. Runner up to Lloyd was WOR regular and all round nice guy, Colin Griffiths whom despite a niggling and nasty thumb injury managed to stay within a coiuple of minutes of the "on a mission" Lloyd. Third place went to Manchester 17 MCC Enduro organiser, Geraint Rodgers with a very creditable ride on 19 laps. Over in the Sportsman class it was a very clear and distinctive victory for Mike Manley, Mike having a very neat and classy ride to do 19 laps and push Neil Stokes into a well deserved runners up place. 3rd spot on the podium went to Ian Mckean whom was only 10 seconds adrift of Stokes come the end. Top Sportsman Veteran was Sherco mounted Lee Sephton. Lee doing a
brilliant 19 laps and seemingly really enjoying the sunshine blessed
track. Runner up was Chris Holland with a great ride and a very
surprised but pleased reaction when called up for his trophy.
The Novice group was topped by Martin Walker with Mark Bott in 2nd place and James Goodrum rounding out the top 3. A sad day to see the last big course event take place at this iconic and famous venue, but a great day of committed racing and rider determination. WOR would like to once again thanks all involved for running the event and adding yet another safe and enjoyable event to their CV. More details on the new WULFSPORT WINTER HARE SCRAMBLES series starting on 5/6th October and in fact all things WOR can be found at www.worevents.com and on up to date info is always on the club's Facebook Group Page.
" WOR Events hosted the final round of their PUTOLINE HARE SCRAMBLES series last weekend at the club's well known Maeshafn circuit in North Wales near Chester. The venue has been used for a long time and has hosted lots and lots of various WOR events and races over the years. The track for this event was in possibly the best condition it has ever been in as a top quality grading job by the landowners had a real nice and flowing circuit on offer for the near 200 riders that attended the Race Experience Day and the races over the duration of the weekend. Heavy rain on Friday before the event made conditions absolutely perfect as the dry summer months had baked the Flintshire mountainside hard, the rain soaked in, soften the ground which in turn offered a superb peaty, loamy and more importantly , Grippy surface. The Kids Race..1.5hrs 9.30am. The juniors set off at 9.30am sharp for their blast around the course and a healthy line up of little bikes roared into life. George Saunders and Dan Gibbons were simply flying around the track in the morning sunshine as they battled for vital series points in the 85cc Big wheel group. Saunders eventually topped the class and the race with a very slim 4 second gap on the committed Gibbons. Third place went to the always improving Declan Richards with all 3 finishing on 11 laps.
Chaz Chater was once again the boy to beat in the 65cc group as he
dominated from start to finish and took a 7th win of 8 in the series. The growing popularity of the Over 85cc group had 6 riders take part. Cynan Sharp continued his riding improvement on the Gas Gas 125 with a fine 10 laps. Runner up was Mathilde Criq on her TTR 125 as Oscar Evans had another strong ride to finish 3rd and secure the overall over 85cc title. the kids in this 2013 series really have done well and taken on all the challenging WOR tracks with vigour and great determination.
THE ADULT RACE A very healthy line up of riders took to the start line for the noon start of the 2hr adult race.. Race Boss Steve Ireland set the riders away as always on a dead engine start in waves of classes out onto the big mountainside track. The first Gaggle of experts got back through lap scoring on the first lap but something had gone wrong out on the course and bizarrely the Clerk of The Course had to pull out the Red Flag and cancel proceedings. In their haste the leading group of 7 experts had not been paying attention to the marked course and simply rode through lots of track markers in some very important places, This track destruction had massive consequences as the following Clubman and sportsman riders simply did not know which way to go....ending in a lot of riders off track and in no mans land. Quick thinking and vast experience from the WOR team had all riders back on the start line, track repaired and the lap scoring computer good to go again within 15 minutes, a telling off by Mr Ireland ensured that the restart and subsequent 2hr race ran like clockwork....as the riders were a lot more respectful of the comprehensively marked track.
Chris Wagstaff tied up his overall Expert Veteran class win with another very impressive ride as he took the class win from Runner Dean Johnson and Third placed Dave Carthy. Waggy again matching the top experts for pace and lap times as he shows no sign of slowing down in his 40's.
Clubman 2 stroke victory went to Matthew Solan with Russ Taylor as always there or thereabouts in the runners up spot. Harry Eccles took the third spot on the podium to get enough points to ensure he became a champion overall in class. Solan took the class win by a near half a minute advantage. Mick Boam looking smart as anything in his full Beta Clothing on the BETA 2t was in great form and took the win in the Clubman Veterans from Gareth Lloyd and David Williams in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Lloyd doing enough to secure the overall for the year, Whilst Boam was the only Clubman Vet to do the magic 13 laps total. Top Sportsman was Tom Baron with a very strong ride as he blasted Mike Manley and Tom Stirrup into the other two spots on the podium. Stirrup did have a slight ride off piste as he fell down a steep gulley edge on his last lap. All 3 top sportsman riding really well on 12 laps.
Ross Davies was in unbeatable form in the youth class as he had a nightmare start from a big crash that broke his bike and left him in dead last position. Davies simply got his head down and powered to the front of the class with some very fast riding to top the podium as he beat runner up Ross Johns by 1min 16 seconds come the end of the race. Johns is a flyer too and is not scared of twisting the throttle as pulled just short of a minute advantage from the hard charging and ever improving Ryan Cahill in 3rd place. Finally in the Novice class it was Rob Simpson that dominated and secured the overall win in class too as Jacob stirrup and Steve Roberts took second and third place respectively. Another great event form the WOR team was warmly received by the riders as they crossed the chequered flag area and the final round of this very popular Putoline Hare Scrambles series for 2013 due to a close. Results - Standings best 7 of the 8 WOR would like to thank PUTOLINE OIL, the landowners , staff, medics and again most of all the riders and their families for supporting the event. Lots of new and up to date info on forthcoming events at www.worevents.com and the new WULFSPORT WINTER ENDURO series
"WOR ran the 7th and penultimate round of the PUTOLINE HARE SCRAMBLES at a brand new venue last weekend. The new WOR track at Castle Caereinon on the Welsh / Shrops borders was a little gem and really offered something different from the usual tracks that WOR produce for the Hare Scrambles series. This event was run on unbelievably WOR's 14th different venue of 2013, A shorter than normal WOR lap including a very dusty and hard pack MX track linked to a 3 big rolling fields section was fast and exciting for all the riders as they had chance to really blow the cobwebs out an de-coke their machines. The racing was real and close in all the classes from the kids race through to the adults and judging by the smiles and reactions of the riders come the end it looked like Race Boss, Steve Ireland and his vastly experienced team had once again got the mix of terrain and duration just about spot on for the majority of the racers. THE KIDS RACE The 1.5hr Junior race started the days schedule as the kids took to the start line for the 9am kick off. Running for 1.5 hrs, the committed kids set off around the 3 mile lap. The racing was close in all the classes as the fast track offered little way of pulling a gap on your nearest rival. Dean Edwards and Jacob James were the early leaders and had horns locked in what looked like being a real battle to the end, However disaster struck for James as his bike gave up on performing around the 40 minute mark, This allowed the flying Edwards to push on and take a near 3 minute advantage over runner up Declan Richards whom in turn just over a minute ahead of 3rd placed Dan Gibbons. The 85cc Small wheel group had Ryan Holland take the win after his rival Reece Pickersgill had a bad day at the office with a very rare mechanical breakdown early on in the race . Charlie Chater was once again the chap to beat in the competitive 65cc group as he topped the class by nearly 4 minutes from runner up Sion Hughes. Hughes had some debris trapped round the back wheel which cost him sometime...Hughes doing enough to finish above the ever improving third placed Haydn Tyrer. Over 85cc victor was young Welshman Cynan Sharp, taking his little Gas Gas to a well earned top step of the podium. Oscar Evans battled hard on his 150 Honda to take the runners up place as did the determined Brooklyne Johnson on her trusty TTR 125 to take the final trophy placing. A break in between the days proceedings allowed the WOR team to do the kids trophy presentation and some track fixing and tidying before the adults were sent to the big grass start area for their noon kick off.
Looking at the line up on the Expert grid it was obvious to see that this was one of the strongest and best group of riders to line up all year, Top AMCA MX rider Lee Payne, All round Enduro and Dakar ace, Tim Forman, BEC expert front runner, Owain Humphries, Former BEC 125 champion, Andrew Edwards, along with a whole host of other quick lads, Zac Sherwin, Steve Hughes, Jon Hill, Alun Jones, Shaun Ekersley, Ryan Ireland to name a few ..The racing was guaranteed to be hot from the off. Bursting through the dust and first man back to lap scoring on lap one was Expert Veteran rider Shaun Turner, Turner having just turned 40 and not having raced for months and months looked in fine form on the Beta 300 2t as he pushed on dust free into lap two....however at the results zone for the end of lap two, it was top MX rider now turned Speedway star Lee Payne that was out in front. Payne continued then to lead the way for the majority of the race. Lurking not far behind and riding with his usual aggressive and fast style was MRS Sherco rider, Owain Humphries, Snapping at Payne's heels, it was forced refuelling by Payne that allowed the flying Welshmen through and into control of the race. Come the end of this very hard fought and dogged battle it was the Sherco 300 in front of the KTM 2t by a 10 second gap. Tim Forman was a fully deserved 3rd place matching the top riders 20 laps and finishing 2 and a half minutes down on Payne. Over in the Expert Vets Shaun Turner was holding onto his lead but not for long as the very fast number 81 machine of top WOR Expert Vet, Chris Wagstaff came past and took the reins. Come the end Waggy had pulled a near 3.5 minute gap from runner up Turner and 3rd placed Dean Johnson rounded out the podium albeit a lap down on Turner and Wagstaff.
C F racing boss Gareth Lloyd once again pushed his Kawasaki to a well earned Clubman Veteran win by a comfortable distance from runner up, Julian Rylance. Lloyd suiting the MX type going as Rylance favours the more enduro and tricky terrain events. Rounding out the Clubman Veterans was Darren Keefe whom just snook ahead of Michael Charles on the last lap to snatch the final trophy place. The top Clubman of the day was 15 year old George Price, The ever improving youngster was on top form as he took the 4t class win as well as his group win. Price pushed his KXF 250 to a 3 minute advantage over Richard Bentham whom was again doing his best to accumulate those valuable championship points for the series standings. Bentham with his usual determined style finished a lap clear of third placed Tom Cadwallader. The always competitive Sportsman class was topped by Tom Stirrup, this young rider is another one that is improving by the week and after a move from Novice to Sportsman, he now is edging himself nearer the clubman class with his fast riding. Stirrup beat runner up Stacey Greensall by 23 seconds with both riders on 18 laps. Third place went to Glesni Jones as she proved her worth as the best female rider at WOR with a very strong ride on her new bike and in her smart new kit. Sportsman Veterans is always hot at the front and again championship points are a focal point of the top group of riders, A special mention must go to class leader, Barry Boustead as he led the pack with a huge lead, even passing the Clubman Vets, until his throttle cable snapped...a symptom of twisting it too hard maybe?? Boustead's DNF paved the way for Guy Hemmings to power through and take the class win by a very close 7 seconds from Mr consistent, Mark Plain. Duncan Humphrey came through the pack to take third place as all the front runners finished on 18 laps.
Finally the Novice group and it was Rob Simpson that too the win from Steve Wilcox and James Goodrum in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. All 3 finishing on 17 laps, just right for the class and showing that the WOR classes are graded and run fairly. The event ran like clockwork as expected of this club and the atmosphere was once again very friendly and welcoming. The WOR will be back at this venue for a Moto duro special in the next month or so. A big thank you goes out to all the staff, medics, caterer's, land owner and of course the riders and their families that support these races and make them what they are. The next WOR weekend and also the final round of the 2013 PUTOLINE HARE SCRAMBLES is next weekend on the 7/8th September at the popular Maeshafn venue, nr Chester at the end of the M56. Race Experience Day fun on the Saturday followed by the double pointer kids and adult races on the Sunday... Call 07803698061 or visit www.worevents.com for more details...
If WOR Events were a restaurant chain then what they served up last Sunday at the latest round of the Michelin Tyres Hare and Hounds series was top class fodder with Michelin Stars ... The course , as always at Greenhall farm was fantastic, fast and flowing, technical climbs and descents, rocky sections, rolling fields and some of the best views in the world, A proper old school Hare and Hounds Enduro venue. The WOR always run the Michelin series for 3 hours duration which means a proper test for allot of the riders that have become accustomed to the shorter 2hr format that has become so popular in recent years. Staring at 11am the very healthy line up of riders throughout all the classes was fired off up the huge grass start field by the chief starter and the noise and vision of the motorcycles climbing the mountain was superb.
Following Luke onto the next rung of the Expert podium was Jon Hill, Hill riding as consistent as ever but maybe not as fast as he done earlier in this year, still a great ride for the runners up spot. The 3rd place silverware for the experts went to Grant Hacking who
was having some proper fun out there on the fun track. The Expert Vets was topped by the hard charging Dave Carthy as he fended off Colin Mcnees challenge over the 3hrs. Russ Taylor was in fantastic form in the Clubman and was the only Clubman level rider to complete 20 laps. Russ topped the class from runner up George Price whom was enjoying his brand new Kawasaki KX 250f and third placed James Allinson who fully deserved his award with a gusty display of riding.
KTM 300 mounted Colin Griffiths rounded out the podium with another very consistent ride as he kept on the front two's pace. Tom Stirrup's( wasaki) fine run of recent form as he again topped the Sportsman group with 17laps, Stirrup getting very stylish in his riding pushed Paul Thomas into the runners spot and Mike Manley into the bronze, Manley and Thomas very close come the end with only 6 seconds separating them in Thomas' favour. 17 laps was the score achieved by all 3 riders .
Duncan winning the group by a clear lap from Henry Markey in a fine runners up spot from 3rd placed Mark Plain. Plain riding the KTM with his usual smooth style. The Youth class was again topped by the ever improving and now very tall, Jack Cadwallader. Caddy was flying and looked very fast and smooth as he completed 18 laps and finished with a 5 minute advantage over runner up, Ross Davies. Ted Bailey did great too with a fine bronze finish in class albeit a couple of laps down on Davies and Cadwallder. The Novice group was full of heroes too with the 3 hour duration making some very tired riders indeed. Top pilot was James Goodrum with Ryan Swain and Martin Walker in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. To round up, it was a great event with a superb course, ran as always expected from the very experienced WOR team like clockwork, even the weather was served with sunshine. A very nice racing experience indeed. Michelin Man of the moment was Luke Williams, Kawasaki's won the majority of the classes and big well done goes out to all of the riders. WOR's next event is this Coming Wednesday 21st August at Buildwas
with a RED and an evening scramble...
" WOR ran a very nice little event at Buildwas Off road centre last Wednesday with a Race Experience Fun Day from 10am till 4pm followed by a 2 hr Evening Hare Scramble at 6.30pm. The weather was fine all day and the WOR team had plotted a lovely little track that ran in and out of the Mx based Buildwas site and used over 70 acres of brilliant woodlands and trails that offered the small but committed list of riders a great midweek blast. The RED day went superb with all the riders having a superb day in the dirt, kids and adults enjoying the testing yet flowing loop. The Evening race kicked off at 6.30pm sharp ..Jon Hunt on the Sherco 250f was in unstoppable form and rode the best WOR have seen him yet. Lapping second place twice the Shropshire based youngster was at one with the bike and clocked up an amazing 21 laps. Rodger Holland was Second. Kev Rogers was top Vet with Joe Hemming having a great ride for second and Richard Holland in the bronze position. Top Clubman was Lee Chance with his mate in Jon Turley in the runners up spot from Rob White in 3rd. Matt Verrin having moved from Novice topped the Sportsman with Jonathan Hayes and Steve Rodgers in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Top Novice rider was Tom Evans from Tom Walker and Joe Stephenson in silver and bronze placing.
The whole concept of the neat little midweek race went down well and the venue lended itself to the event fantastically. This was rd 1 of a 3 round series with the best two scores to count for the overall championship and trophies., the next round is again at Buildwas on Wednesday 21st August and the 3rd round a week later on the 28th August at Nantmawr Quarry. All is not lost for riders that missed this cracking rd 1. Results Although entries were thin on the ground it is a case of "Spread the Word" to other riders for this fun midweek format. More Details at www.worevents.com or the WOR Events Face book page."
"WOR Events unleashed another brand new venue last weekend and what a track it was. An average lap time of around 14 minutes over a fast and flowing 5.2 mile course that had rolling fields, off cambers, sweeping hills, rocky sections, fast Moto cross type going and some boggy bull rush infested sheep trails. It went down a storm with all the riders. WOR boss Steve Ireland said he had never experienced such a warm welcome for a new venue before as all the riders throughout the weekend from the RED through to the two main Putoline Hare Scramble races had given the track the thumbs up, and that was over 250 thumbs pointing skywards!! The paddock was full to bursting and the atmosphere as you would come to expect from any WOR event, was friendly, relaxed and warm. The racing action kicked off on Sunday at 9am sharp with the kids going out for their usual 1.5hr battle. The conditions were slippy after some overnight rain but under the first layer of the slip was pure grip that the little bikes soon found and made the most of. The overall winner of the Kids race and securing himself some vital Putoline Hare Scrambles series points was Dan Gibbons in the over 85cc group as he had a neck and neck race for the duration with Jacob James. The pair of these riders not wanting to give the other to much room on the circuit. At the end Gibbons pulled a 27 second advantage to top the class, James was followed home in third place by George Saunders whom had not had a day like he usually has, IE winning! The 85cc small wheel group had Ryan Holland in third place with Sion Evans in a well earned runners up spot as they both chased down the always determined Jack Llewellyn Hughes as managed to get 7 laps to the other boys 6 and 5 respectively. In the 65cc class it was the young front runner, Charlie Chater that once again proved the top dog in the little bikes as he buzzed to a comfortable 6 minute advantage over runner up Sion Hughes with Josh Lucy in a well deserved third spot. Chater and Hughes completed a brilliant 7 laps to their credit. Finally in the kids race was the over 85cc group and Cynan Sharp riding a Gas Gas 125 looked to really be enjoying himself on the fast, flowing and rider friendly track. Runner up was the always smiling and ever improving Izzy Skillin with another improving by the week rider, Oscar Evans in the bronze trophy position. After a short break for the kids awards presentation and a few track tweaks by the non stop WOR track team it was time for the 12 noon start of the main 2hr PUTOLINE HARE SCRAMBLE. A very busy start area was full of bikes on stunning taped out field that rolled into another field, that rolled into another field before climbing onto the rocks at the top of the mountain. A new twin shock class was introduced by WOR earlier in the week and 12 riders graced the event with some stunning looking old, nostalgic bikes that really did add to the event in every sense of the word. The Twin shock class will now be added to regular WOR events in the future.
Fastest Clubman was 52 year old CF Racing boss, Gareth Lloyd. Riding a Kawasaki KX 250f in the Clubman Veteran class it was Lloyd who was the man to beat as he topped the group by a very comfortable 2minutes and 30 seconds from runner up Kev Freeman. Third placed Clubman Veteran was Mark Cheetham who was not far behind Freeman at all considering Cheetham rides maybe twice a year if that. Lloyd was fasted Clubman overall by a minute and a half and that's impressive considering the 2t and 4t Clubman started a good 45 seconds in front of the Veterans.
The 4 stroke group was again close fought with a minute separating the top 3, all on 11 laps. Tom Edwards having a storming ride to take the win from Jordan Johns and Darren Skillin in 2nd and 3rd place.
Top sportsman riders were Mike Manley in 3rd place on 10 laps as he chased the top two of Stacey Greensall in second spot and class winner Darren Maloney whom both completed 11 laps. Over in the Sportsman Veterans it was that man again Barry Boustead that did th winning with 11 laps to his credit as the runner up, Rob Potts and third placed Shaun James tried to hunt him down albeit finishing on 10 laps a piece. Top Youth rider was Jack Cadwallader as he was very quick on the grass test type going, Caddy was the only youth rider to clock up 11 laps, Conditions really suiting the ever improving Shropshire based youngster. Runner up was the always fast and stylish Ross Davies, whom in turn finished ahead of another fast and stylish Ross, this time Ross Johns. The non competitive Novice class, although you wouldn't think so! was topped by Rob Simpson with Steve Wilcox and Rob Parry in 2nd and third place, 4th place Leon Thomas deserving a mention too as they were the only Novice riders to click 10 laps each. Another thing that needs a mention is the conditions for the last 25 minutes of the race, The track went like an ice rink as the heavy showers hit the grassy fields, The bikers resembled gymnasts more than off roaders as the pirouetting pilots' danced a merry dance to see the chequered flag and an end to the lack of traction. No one's smile had gone though as the response to Steve Ireland's latest creation was untold congratulations.
WOR would like to as always thank the landowners, staff and most of all
the riders for supporting and making this latest event happen.
"WOR A CRACKER" WOR Events certainly know how to throw an off road festival if the atmosphere and frolics at the recent Berwyn Leisure park are anything to go by. Steve Ireland and his team organised a weekend rammed full of off road action for ages and abilities. Over 250 riders supported the weekends activities and with all the spectators and campers it really did have a summer festival feeling going on. Saturday was as always kicked off by one of WOR's famous RED fun days, with over 100 riders enjoying the massive loop that the WOR team had created on Mr and Mrs' Edwards vast piece of North Wales countryside. The track used both sides of the massive valley and incorporated lots of new and unused sections of track, The riders could see that once again you can really expect a quality effort from the WOR staff and trust in their operation. After the RED finished at 4pm it was a short break then a very exciting schedule of events took off, First at 5pm, the now infamous, WOR staff race took place, a 40 minute race that had the elite WOR staff battling handlebars and much more to see who would win. As usual cheating, swearing and cursing was par for the course, Steve Ireland had even organised a powerful jet wash to blast at the riders as they came through lap scoring. A giant Giraffe rode very well, Paul ward did some fine cheating, Gareth Davies was flying like never before but the main man of the marshals race was Martin Chater, no inventive line choice from him as he took a well earned victory.
The night then moved over to the big marquee were the lovely glass awards were handed out in a very nice ceremony to all of the 2012 WOR champions, Hog Roast, disco with all the lights and smoke machines, great family banter and a very light sprinkling of Alcohol topped off the night superbly.
Kicking off the day at 9am was a 1hr Field Bike Challenge enduro. Funny and entertaining is not the word as the scooters, mopeds, field bikes etc all took on the challenge with even Enduro guru Ady Smith out there flat out like a teenager on his mini pit bike!! The Hour went so fast because of all the laughing ...The big mention from the FBC must go to WOR's Frank Parkinson who was out on a Honda Medley on slicks, great to watch.
Charlie Chater once again dominated the 65'cc Group from Sion Hughes and Frank Skillen. Declan Richards, Cynan Sharp and Brooklyne Johnson were the top 3 in that order for the over 85's ... The Big wheel 85's had Chloe Richards in 3rd, Jacob James in 2nd with Dan Gibbons topping the podium on Gold.
Winner of the kids race overall was the flying William Criq with Ryan Holland in the silver and Reece Pickersgil in the final podium place. Well done to all the kids. Rounding out the weekend was the 12.30 start of the main Michelin Tyres Hare & Hounds rd 3. The race had a great turn out and the full loop of the daunting Tyn Twyll farm was waiting for them. Leading from the start was the super smooth KTM off road schools boss man , Ady Smith. Smith looked to be simply floating over the dusty and demanding terrain as he pulled out his lead from the hard charging young Enduro Star, Lee Sealy.
The race had already been shortened by one hour from 3 to 2 by race boss Steve Ireland as a precaution against the dust inhalation, bumpy dry sections and rider fatigue. That was to change again as three rider injury incidents within a very short space, with two of them looking serious, forced the clerk of the course to pull out the chequered flag at the 1 hour point and the race was scored and ended there as the WOR team, Medics and the Air ambulance crews did their sterling work. Rider safety comes first at WOR in every instance and all the genuine riders and spectators could see the sequence of events unfold and understand all the right decisions had been made and the best care possible given two the two stricken riders.
A great job done by the WOR team and judging by the feedback for the event the riders, families and spectators all enjoyed a brilliant festival weekend. As always WOR would like to thank EVERYONE involved in the running of the event, from Landowners through to Caterers, Medics , Photographers etc etc.. WOR's next production is on August 3/4th at a brand new, virgin venue in North Wales near Ruthin. The RED and the Putoline Hare Scrambles rd 6. All welcome. More details at www.worevents.com
WOR EVENTS PUTOLINE HARE SCRAMBLES RD 5 2013 WOR Events laid on another superb event last weekend for the latest round of the clubs Putoline Hare Scrambles series. Set in the stunning grounds of an old stately hall in the best weather so far this year, the paddock was full and the riders and spectators had a superb time as they enjoyed the weekends action that unfolded in front of them. As always a very popular Race Experience fun day ran on the Saturday and the two race format ran on the Sunday with races for both the kiddies and the Adults.
The Over 85cc group had an all female podium as Mathilde Criq took the class win from a very determined and early leader in Izzy Skillin with Brooklyne Johnson in third place. Criq and Skillen doing 8 laps. In the 85cc small wheel group it was Willam Criq, Mathilde's brother that was doing the winning as he put in a very good performance to top the class by a clear lap from runner up Reece Pickersgill and Ryan Holland in 3rd. Reece with a near 5 minute advantage. The overall honours though for the youth race went to young George
Saunders as he glided his way around the track and led the event from
start to finish. Jacob James was back to his usual form and was going to
make a podium place his with a very determined ride.
With being one of the fastest cross country racers in the World Jason did exactly what was expected of him as put on a very fast and controlled display of riding to top the WOR event at a canter. Riding WOR race boss, Steve Ireland's Sherco 300i, The super talented Thomas simply just jumped on the machine, made no changes to the set up and led from start to finish looking so smooth on his way around the tough woodlands and extremely quick on the fast sprint field. Runner up to Thomas and probably riding the best we have seen him do was the vastly improving youngster, Jon Hill. It was a shame for Hill that the professional superstar Thomas had turned up because the way Hill was riding it was highly unlikely he would have been beaten by any one else. Hill was flying and was making the tough terrain look like tarmac in places as he pulled 3 minutes from the bronze placed finisher on the Expert Podium, Ryan Ireland. At last Ireland had some luck on his side and got a great result he fully deserved as he is again another young rider that is improving by the week.
The Clubman 2t category was topped by Adam Sanders with another strong ride from an ever improving young rider as he pipped the flying Gas Gas of Young Harry Eccles by 41 seconds after some close racing. Third place went to Russ Taylor, who again defied arm pump and his age to take on the youngsters in this competitive class and put himself on the podium like he always does as he finished a minute down on Eccles, all 3 completing 13 circuits. John Lofthouse crashed early on the fast sprint field section and was infact run over by another rider whilst he was on the floor, what did he do?, Got up, dusted himself off and went onto to win the Clubman veteran class by a clear lap! Well done that man. Michael Charles on the Sherco 300 Factory replica was the runner up with a fine 12 laps to his credit and Bryan Wilson continued his strong run of results with 11 laps and a well earned final slot on the podium.
Barry Boustead is a rider that goes well all the time and once again he is proving the man to beat in the super competitive Sportsman Veteran class. Boustead was the only rider in class to get through and sneak in that 13th lap, leaving Rob Potts and Mark Plain in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. The racing in this class was absolutely cut throat and Noel White and Duncan Humphreys deserve a mention as they kept the top 3 on their toes for the whole race. In the youth group it was that little fella Ross Davies that again is proving hard to beat as he pushed his little Honda 150 to its limit to complete 12 laps and a 2.5minute advantage over runner up, Ryan Cahill. Cahill was flying too and on one section in the woods was seen overtaking 3 riders whilst on his back wheel!! 3rd place went to the stylish Ted Bailey albeit a lap down on Davies and Cahill. Finally in the adult race categories it was Rob Simpson who took the win with a very determined ride that secured him 12 laps and an unbelievable 2 second gap from runner up Steve Wilcox with Cristofer Dean in a well earned 3rd place. Despite the race running from noon till 2pm, the hottest part of the day!! the riders all crossed the line with enthusiasm and glee as a well earned finish had just come their way. No one was in a hurry to go home from this simply stunning venue as the barbeques all fired back up and the riders and families stayed on for a bit more WOR hospitality and enjoy the splendid summer sunshine. WOR would as always like to thank the landowners, staff, caterers, medics and most of all the riders for supporting the club so strongly. The next WOR event is on the weekend of 20/21st July at a fully
reworked and fresh designed track at Tyn Twyll aka Berwyn Leisure Park,
a classic old school Hare and Hounds venue that will also play host to
the annual WOR party weekend...Including, a hill climb, hog roast, live
music, the infamous WOR marshals race, a moped race and much more fun
and laughter...
DANIELS DAZZLES IN THE DRIZZLE 3 Gruelling hours of riding a dirt bike in slippery and muddy conditions, rain beating you down, a technical and challenging old school style enduro track, and another load of like minded riders and you've got a recipe for fun. That is exactly what the hardy riders had at WOR 's latest Michelin Tyres supported Hare and Hounds series had last Sunday. The weather was wet and windy and the superb and 16 year established Maeshafn track did it's best to hold out for the duration but by the end of the 180 minutes the riders were all smiles to be congratulated over the finish line in the realisation they did not have to navigate another challenging lap.
Gary Daniels was on top form as he took on and defeated all challenges that came his way over in the race, the track conditions, the other riders and the weather were no match for the quiet , likeable and very skilful Wigan based rider. Daniels took the race lead on the second lap and then was never passed, challenges from the hard charging young WOR starlet Jon Hunt and also from the unbelievably quick and talented Antoine Criq were dismissed by the floating Daniels as he took a fine win by nearly 5 minutes. 14 year old Criq defies his youthful age as his mature riding ability does the talking for him, this time resulting in a fine runners up place with young Hunt doing what he always does and putting himself there or there about on the podium in 3rd. All three riders completed 18 laps of the challenging North Wales mountainside. Chris Wagstaff was once again the top Expert veteran from Dave Carthy and Ian Thomas.
Colin Griffiths was smooth as ever as he took top Clubman Veterans place with a comprehensive victory over Michael Charles and Bryan Wilson. Matt Verrin topped the Sportsman group and Gareth Jones headed the Sportsman Veterans category, Young Eddy Emery was flying to win the Youth group on a very powerful 13 laps and the evergreen Mark Bott proved too strong for the rest of the Novice group. All in all it was another top event form the WOR Events team with plenty of action and challenges as expected from this time served events promotion outfit, The weather just added to the challenge and was laughed out of town by the organisers and the riders alike.

"WOR Events hosted another fine meeting last weekend with the PUTOLINE HARE SCRAMBLES rd 4 taking place at Buildwas Off road park nr Ironbridge in the Midlands. This was WOR's best Buildwas event yet with the inclusion of the fantastic woodlands, these woods are exclusive to WOR Events and were used last year in the winter, this time in the summer the fantastic wooded area was were the main course was plotted and what a track it was! Big dust was an issue out on the hard pack course bit in the big tree area it was cool, dust free and flowing with lots of proper enduro trails to follow. The weather was the best it could ever be with suntan lotion out in abundance around the paddock and the smell of Bbq's everywhere, The PUTOLINE HARE SCRAMBLES 2013 could not have had a better setting. Kicking off the days action was the kids 1.5hr race that started at 9am. A very healthy line up of 30 juniors took to the start line in readiness for the exciting track that lay ahead for them. In the 65cc group no riders had an answer for Charlie Chater as took a very comfortable win in class with a2 lap advantage over runner up Haydn Tyrer. Tyrer improving with every ride too as he pushed Josh Lucy into the bronze medal placing.
The Over 85cc group had Oscar Evans in third place with Brooklyne Johnson in the silver spot and Isobelle Skillin Taking the win. Skillin managing an extra lap over the other two podium finishers. The top performance overall though from the kids race went to Dean Edwards as his super quick and smooth riding earned him a cracking win by over 4 minutes from runner up Dan Gibbons. Gibbons in turn having just over 2 minutes advantage from third placed Eddy Emery. After a track tweak and a small break for the hard working WOR staff it was onto the main race of the day and the 2 hr adult scramble. The 100 rider line up took top the Putoline Taped start line under a very hot sun indeed and the race boss, Steve Ireland gave the briefing with an emphasis on caution in the dust, keeping goggles on and most of all keep hydrated. Not that anyone listened to the dust bit as the front row of experts and expert vets blasted off into the distance looking for a clear view of the brilliant woodlands. First man through the race control and scoring area was Lee Sealy , the young Husaberg 125 mounted rider flying through the terrain on full gas. Not far behind, Sherco 250 mounted Youngster Jon Hunt was pushing hard and a real battle was about to unfold. After catching Sealey and riding tyre for tyre, The both riders then pitted at the same time, Hunt got out first and was in the lead with 30 minutes to go, Fair play to the never say die Sealey though as he pushed hard to get back with Hunt and push on home for a fair win come the end by nearly a minute, back markers and a tight section in the woodlands was all it needed to slow a rider down, at the end both of these superbly talented teenagers shook hands and talked the race to each other with epic smiles and banter. For most of the race the 3rd placed expert spot looked to have been secured by the hard charging Alex West, however come the end it was Steve Hughes that made a welcome return to the WOR podium as he took the final piece of expert silverware.
The Clubman riders had 3 classes to go at, Topping them all and having a bit of luck for once was Gas GAS 300 mounted Harry Eccles, the likeable youngster being the only Clubman to do 14 laps. Mike Pye and Nathan Rogers were 2nd and third respectively in the 2t group and George Price on a borrowed second hand old Honda 250 blitzed the 4 stroke group as he too is starting to have the luck his skill deserves. Richard Bentham battled the youth of his group to get second from the very quick and stylish and also freshly promoted from Sportsman, Will Emery. Real good racing all-round there. In the other Clubman class, the veterans were topped by the flying Gary Morley, Morley once again riding very strong to keep the hard charging Gareth Lloyd at bay and in fine style too by squeezing in an extra lap. Third place went to the evergreen Richard Lewis whom initially had been place din the wrong class. Over in the Sportsman categories it was a fine ride from Kieran Jordan that secured the win by just short of two minutes from Dom Rose and Glesni Jones. Special mention for Glesni as she has not ridden much of late due to commitment of her GCSE exams, Glesni rode superb to challenge the male peers in her group and once again let everyone know her name. Noel White fresh from a TT trip was in brilliant form as he worked hard to take the Sportsman Vets class by approximately 1minute and 20 seconds from the always fast Barry Boustead. Shaun James took 3rd place as he returned to WOR action after a an adventure to Erzberg.
Finally over in the Novices it was Tom Stirrup in only his second ever race that took the win. Runner up was Steve Roberts with Steve Wilcox in third. Stirrup being the only novice to complete 12 laps. Summing up the weekend is easy, just as you expect from the professional WOR Events team, all ran like clockwork, the course was immense and the work that goes into these events was evident for all to see and clarifies why this PUTOLINE HARE SCRAMBLE series is by far one of the best club championships in the country. WOR would like to thank all of the staff, landowners, catered and medics for their superb contributions. The next WOR production is a RED day and the 2nd rd of the MICHELIN
TYRES 3hr series at the always super popular Maeshafn venue nr Chester
on the weekend of June 22/23rd..
BADEN
HALL BANK HOLIDAY SPECIAL BADEN HALL in Staffordshire served up an absolute fantastic course for the WOR 4hr enduro last Sunday. The WOR team had undertaken a completely new and fresh design of the old military bomb testing site and laid on what can only be called a "proper" Hare & Hounds track, with riders commenting that it was by far the best Baden Yet. 5 Miles per lap of 11 different woodlands, fast and open fields, twists and turns everywhere, jumps and leaps in the old bomb holes all mixed together to craft an average 15 minute lap. There was a 4 hour duration for the main race of the day that was preceded by a 1.5hr kids race.
After a very short break for a few tweaks and track tape repairs it
was an 11.15am start for the adults in the 4hr two man team and Iron man
race. Danny Morse was the rider to beat on the day in the Expert solo
Ironman, simply taking control of the event from the start, the slight
and stylish KTM 2t mounted rider was flowing around the demanding Baden
course with ease and was going as fast in the last lap after 4 hours as
he was as the at the start of the race, Morse finishing a lap clear on
paper at least of runner up, Justin Carter. Carter in turn finishing a
lap up on the always determined Ryan Ireland. Special mention for Morse
again as he outpaced the fresher two man expert team of the flying
youngsters, Antione Criq and Matt Boam, The final 4hr solo class was the Sportsman group, Jade Gordon did superb in this class as she took top spot and by an almost clear lap advantage too.. Runner up was Lee Carpenter with Karl Chadwick in 3rd spot. A big well done to all the 4 hr solo riders. Onto the teams and it was as mentioned earlier the flying squad of youth that is Antione Criq and Matt Boam that was the premier team on the day. The top Clubman team was Harry Eccles and Dan Boam, these two matching the experts 21 laps with a fine ride. Runners up were Howarth and Marriott with a very strong 19 laps to their credit. Third place was the Dad and Lad team of Geoff and Jamie Lutas, back after a 5 year gap from racing and showing they still have a podium in the them and plenty of skill too.. Dean Johnson and Darren Skillin were flying at the top of the Veterans team section but had the runners up Dai Lewis and Ian Barnett had both been on modern machinery, the outcome may have been different. Barnett choosing to ride a 1980's Husqvarna 500 2t, Third place went to The always hard charging Bryn Jones and Guy Hemmings. In the Sportsman teams it was the youngsters of Bailey and Emery that were third on the podium with the slightly older team of come back kids, Humphreys and Jones taking the runners up spot. The clear winners though were Barnard and Sigley whom managed a big lap advantage.
At the two hour point of the 4 hour race, WOR introduced a further 30 riders into the fray as a stand alone two hour race joined in. Running 3 separate simple classes of A, B and C ..A was Experts & Clubman together, B was Sportsman and Novice together and the C group was the Veterans. Topping the 2hr race in the A's was Zac Sherwin as he literally floated around on his Husaberg setting the events fastest laps as he went. Runner up was Luke Gorse and Callum Rostron took 3rd place. In the B group it was Chris Gowland from Steve Appleton and Richard Lewis on the podium in that order and finally in the hotly contested C group it was Tim Sabine that led from start to finish although a mix up with results had Runner up Colin Mcnee as the winner on the day ...on checking Mcnee was actually a lap down on the winner Sabine. Third place Vet went to Rick Thompson. WOR had once again left a full field of riders enjoying one of their quality and clockwork like events, The weather was superb, the track better than that and the whole bank holiday WOR experience tasted of nectar for the 200+ riders that had attended the weekend. WOR would as always like to pass on a few messages of thanks. Thanks to all landowners, medics, staff, caterers and most of all the riders and families that make these events what they are . The next WOR production on the 2013 road show is on the 8/9th June at the superb Buildwas Off road centre near Ironbridge with revered Race Experience Day on the Saturday followed by rd 4 of the Fantastic 2013 PUTOLINE HARE SCRAMBLES ....More details at www.worevents.com
"About 15 years ago WOR Events ran Hare and Hounds races that were 3 hrs long in duration and the courses tackled tough, technical and very demanding terrain. The current trend of easier tracks, smaller courses and shorter race durations have helped bring the masses into the sport but the old school way is still the bar at which a proper Hare and Hound Enduro is judged, Last Sunday WOR brought it back for the first round of the MICHELIN TYRES HARE & HOUNDS Enduro series with 3hrs, A proper Enduro course and 100% effort required by all the riders, Even the famous WOR bogs were back! Running just the one race in the day, Starting at bang on 11am and running through to 2pm even the start time was old school and had a very healthy line up of riders ready to do battle around the awesome Carrog Isa track that was expertly designed and marked out by the innovative WOR team track staff. MRS Sherco mounted brothers Gethin & Owain Humphries were out to do the business and showed it from the drop of the union jack flag that started the race. Leading from start to finish and completing one clear lap more than any other rider was 250cc 4t mounted Gethin. Number 1 on his race board was how he rode as his speed, strength, stamina and style were evident for all to see. Owain was never far away till the halfway point when his exhaust snapped on his 300 4t as a result of an earlier event crash damage, very frustrating for the Older brother of the two. BEC Clubman front runner Lee Sealey on his 125 Husaberg was also flying early on as he pushed along at a fine rate in pursuit of the flying Humphries. sealeys day was to end early too as the demanding track took its toll on the rear end of the Husaberg and rattled it's mudguard off, although a coming together with another rider finally ended the race for him. After all the dicing that went on with the front pack it was a rider that was always in that top 4 group that rode super smooth and with an effortless style to secure the coveted runner up spot. Jon Hunt out at WOR for the first time on his new Sherco 250 4t was fully deserved of his hard earned placing. Helping like the Humphries, in raising the brand awareness of these superb Sherco Enduro bikes, Hunt Looked very comfortable indeed throughout the gruelling 3 hour race. Rounding out the Expert podium in third place is the ever improving and very quick youngster, Antione Criq. Criq is a very mature 14 years of age and has a speed and style that defies his youth, Certainly a big star of the future. Antoine completed the whole race with no front brake, an unbelievable feat when you consider the massive, technical downhill sections this venue offers up... Over in the Clubman class it was close stuff as Paul Engerlen and George Price battled out for the overall lead throughout the race, Engerlen on a 2 stroke and Price on a 4t were never far apart and at the chequered flag it was Paul that snook across the line just 4 seconds ahead of the young and determined Price. The bronze award in Clubman went to Richard Bentham who had a nightmare with a fuel issue and had to do a bit of pushing to secure his 15 lap finish. Chris Wagstaff once again proved just too much for his peers in the Expert Veterans as he comfortably took the win by a clear two laps from runner up Dean Johnson and Third placed Dave Carthy. Waggy even having time to stop mid race, mid track for a wee!! The sunshine and clear sky was doing wonders to the track as some of the boggy bits were becoming pure fun sections with a twist of the right hand the machines were riding across the top of the mud with ease and more importantly all riders went through the bogs and did not cut them out as has been known at some events in the past, Maybe the start line talk from the Clerk of the Course made sure of that as the riders were told the bogs had to be ridden or the riders would be excluded, good work WOR. Julian Rylance is a man on a mission at the moment and e is the one to beat in the very competitive Clubman Veteran class. Rylance pushed hard to catch and pass the early Club Vet leaders and once he got the lead he kept hold of it eventually finishing over 1 and a half minutes ahead of runner up Colin Griffiths. Griffiths in turn finishing 5 minutes clear of third placed John Lofhouse, Lofthouse had been the early leader and was flying managing to match the top two riders 15 laps. Mike Manley took the third place in the Sportsman class on 13 laps and was beaten by runner up Wayne Williams and the class winner Will Emery. Both Emery and Williams clocking up top Clubman results and earning themselves a promotion to the Clubman class for future events as the WOR grading system proves it's worth in keeping it fair for the riders. Mark Plain was again going well in the Sportsman Veterans and took a well earned win from Runner up, Gareth "Rhug" Jones. Mark Heaton was third placed with all riders on 13 laps, 13 laps being the Sportsman level to aim for.
Top Novice was Keith Jones with Tom Jones as runner up and Mark Bott in third place. The event was well enjoyed by all the riders as they crossed the finish line, the extra time to make up the full 3 hours had done its job and left the riders knowing that they had just dug deep and the inclusion of the bogs, steep drops and generally tougher than normal conditions ensured that this 1st round of the series went off with a boom.. WOR's next event is this coming Bank Holiday Weekend at the fantastic BADEN HALL in Staffs with a 4 hour 2 man team and iron man event taking place on the Sunday preceded by the very popular WOR Race Experience Day on the Saturday, all riders are welcome ...More details on all things WOR can be found at www.worevents.com THE MICHELIN TYRES HARE & HOUNDS 3hr ENDURO SERIES....
"The latest round of the PUTOLINE HARE SCRAMBLES took place last weekend at WOR Events iconic venue, Maeshafn, Nr Chester. 300 riders turned out in force over the weekend to enjoy and revel in the superb hare scramble enduro track that the highly experienced WOR Events team had laid on. A twisty, Rocky, bumpy, dusty and very demanding track lay in wait for the riders and as always with this place the riders had to commit to it or else fail, Maeshafn has been hosting enduro type events for WOR for a long time now and each race always has a different course and design to it, approximately a 10 minute lap for the fast guys and anything up to 30 minutes for newcomers but one result at the end, well worked, tired, but very happy riders. The Saturday Race Experience Day (original RED) was well and truly full with riders enjoying the relaxed, playtime and quality atmosphere of the venue, The early morning heavy showers doing a superb job of sorting the dust out. Sunday however was serious Race Day with round 3 of the popular PHS series taking place. The action kicked off as usual at 9.30am with the kids race, a 1.5hr affair for 65's through to 150's. In the 65's it was once again young Charlie Chater that was the dude to beat. Charlie had to work hard for this one though as the ever improving Sion Hughes was pushing hard. 52 seconds separated them at the end with both on 9 laps. Third place 65cc went to Hayden Tyrer with a strong ride.
Over in the big wheel 85cc group it was number 14 George Saunders that was going really well at the front, eventually taking over a 4 minute advantage from runner up Dan Gibbons and Jacob James took third after a nasty spill late on in the race. The only over 85cc winner and overall winner of the kids race was
Josh Bailey who would not have been out of place in the adult race. After a short break and some track alterations to unleash the bigger adult loop with some nice new sections down in the woods it was 12 noon and time to go for the main race. Race Director Steve Ireland had the race under way in no time with a few waves of the union jack flag and the noise and dust rose above this superb venue. Early leaders and well ahead of the pack were Luke Copestake and Lee Samson, Copestake eventually suffering a rear puncture and Sampson too running into some trouble. Young Antoine Criq too was flying but a bad start, followed by a snapped chain and the a rock in the mouth made it a hard day in the office for this very promising young Frenchman, one to watch out for without question. WOR Rider number 38 is young Jon Hill, a very talented midlands based rider that for once on this occasion had some good luck to reward him for his very fast and smooth riding style. Taking his first ever WOR win overall the likeable young man fully deserving his 23 second victory over runner up, Josh Law. Law was motoring out there and was really impressive over the whoopy mx type sections that the course offered. Finishing Third in the Experts was Stuart Waterhouse with another 100% committed ride that you would always expect from Stuart. Back on top form in the Expert Veterans was Chris Wagstaff, Waggy finishing 3rd overall on the day and over a minute clear of the rest of the expert veterans. Alex Owen was the runner up in the Exp Vets and deservedly so as he had no problem with the demanding terrain and showed a top level of fitness. Third place expert veteran was Dean Johnson, Jonno enjoying as he always does, every minute of being on his bike. Top Clubman was Jack Ditchfield, out in the Clubman 2t class he was flying an did quality 11 laps, finishing 4 minutes clear at the front of the two smokers. Runner up was Cole Elliott with a storming ride also on 11 laps, as was third placed Dan Hurd, Nice to see such a young and upcoming gang on the podium. Over in the Clubman 4t class it was a bad luck story for George Price, young Price is getting faster and stronger by the week and is really starting to look the full deal. George was riding in pain with a nasty broken toe but did not seem to let that worry him as was in a commanding lead and replicating his superb form from the earlier event at Hawkstone Park. However a burst rad pipe put an end to Georges' day and opened the door for the other riders in the group to take advantage. Winning the Clubman 4t class and deservedly so after feeling like crap with manflu, Richard Bentham blasted to 11 laps with a one and a half minute advantage over runner up, Aled Harrison. Harrison looking good out on the course with an all action riding style. Callum Rostrum was third albeit a lap down on the top two. The Clubman Veteran class was hotly contested as the two front runners in the group, Julian Rylance and Colin Griffiths diced the race away never far from each other. Rylance has a big tank on the bike and managed to not stop for fuel, this won the race for him as he eventually had 28 seconds advantage over the always smooth and consistent Griffiths. Third place went to John Lofthouse who has lost none of his speed and aggressive style on the bike. The Top Sportsman and a young rider that is improving all the while was Nathan Rodgers, Nathan is sure fire heading for Clubman as his speed and style showed through as he was the only sportsman to complete 11 laps of the gruelling circuit. Second place went to another up and coming young rider, Will Emery, Emery in turn finishing just over a minute ahead of another fine young rider with a great style, Doltan Shannon. Nice again to see such strength on the podium from the youngsters. Mark Plain was flying in the Sportsman Veterans and led from start to finish with a massive 4 minute advantage come the end of two hours racing. Runner Up Shaun James was battling hard with Andy Wood for the podium honours as he eventually pipped Wood by just 5 seconds for the silver trophy. Jack Cadwallader had a great ride, neat, tidy and quick around the track gave the likeable Oswestry based youngster 10 laps to his credit and a massive 6 minute advantage over runner up Ross Davies. Davies managed a very good 10 laps too fair play considering his small wheels over the bumps must have been interesting to say the least. The final youth podium place went to Hubert Szymczykiewicz with 9 laps to his credit. Top Novice rider was Jim Fitzsimons as he took the gold from silver placed Tom Evans with Bronze award winner Ian Foster in third. All 3 were on 9 laps. The weekend was a huge success once again for the club as all the riders, spectators and staff played their part in ensuring the Putoline Hare Scramble series grows in stature with every event. Big thanks to the land owners who even did some grading and rock picking on the Saturday Evening to help make the track even better after the big RED day numbers. WOR Events have lots more stuff going on at the moment with lots of events and projects on the production line and about to happen, With such an innovative and pro active set up the WOR Events organisation has a very strong 2013 race and events calendar to enjoy, more details on all things WOR are at www.worevents.com
Once again the team at WOR Events made a great call by moving the PUTOLINE Hare Scrambles rd 2 to the fantastic BADEN HALL in Staffs. Escaping the remains of the dreaded snow that still haunted the initial venue in North Wales the WOR team created a Hare Scramble masterpiece with a track that received fantastic praise from all the near 250 riders that took part. Dust and loamy berms were the order of the day, deep grip on the tacky fields and plenty of tight action in the trees made for a superb course that suited everyone, even the field based paddock offered a "summer" feel to the event with bone dry grass underfoot. The weekend had a very successful Race Experience day on the Saturday and then was followed on the Sunday with the 2 race format of the PHS ..Kids going first at 9am for an hour and a half followed by the adults in their 2 hr battle.
The race between Smith and Owain was really exciting and the 21 year old from North Wales was pushing everything out of the heart of both him and the little 300 4t engine to pressure the lead from Smith. At the very last turn of the very last lap, Humphries shoved the blue bike in front of Smith and took a very well deserved victory, Smith as always the professional was straight over to young Owain to shake his hand and congratulate him. Just behind these two Sherwin and Gethin were out on their last lap in a real tussle too with the determined and very fast Humphries ensuring that the overall podium had a second Sherco on it as his little 250 thumper made light work of the flowing Baden Hall track to secure 3rd spot. It was great racing all round. Justin Carter was head and shoulders above the rest in the Expert Veterans with a commanding 14 laps to his credit, Leading from start to finish the Leicester based all-rounder made sure runner up Jason Crossland had his work cut out. Crossland just could not quite match the power of Carter over the 2hrs.Third place Expert Vet was Scott Stephenson, Scott going really strong and purposeful throughout the race. Over in the Clubman Classes it was Matt Boam in the 4t group that was the stand out rider with a fine win in class and the fastest rider in the Clubman. Runner up to Boam in the 4t group was Jordan Johns with a fast and stylish ride that secured him just a 9 second advantage from third placed George Price. Price really going well in the second part of the race.
The Clubman Veterans was once again controlled by the ever improving Julian Rylance. Rylance having a very comfortable 2and a half minute advantage over runner up Gary Moorely. Making a welcome return was top WOR races was old friend of Race Boss Steve Ireland, Mark Cheetham.."Cheets" took the final spot on the podium on a very retro 2t Suzuki RM 250... As the race went on the track got even better and the riders were coming past the lap scoring area making all kinds of screams and noises of delight as the reality hit them that they were no longer riding in winter conditions. Winning the Sportsman group by just 2 seconds was Nathan Rogers, the young North Wales based rider really going well to hold off the hard charging Will Emery in the runners up spot. Keeping it really close in the Sportsman Podium placing was Blake Summers in 3rd with just 30 seconds deficit from Emery. All 3 did 12 laps. The Sportsman Veterans was topped by Barry Boustead who always goes well at Baden, Barry took a very healthy 5 and a half minute advantage over runner up Noel White whom in turn had a well earned 9 second cushion over Third placed Rob Potts. Again all 3 top sportsman Vets completed 12 laps. Ross Davies was in the Youth group that takes part in the main race and he put on a cracking display. The 85cc big wheel managing a fantastic 12 laps as he topped the group by 3 minutes. Ross Johns was on mission too and he fully deserved his runners up spot from Hubert Szymczykiewicz in the 3rd place spot. The Top 3 Youth riders doing a superb 12 laps a piece of the demanding but fun track. Top Novice was young Matthew Mills from Andy Wheildon and Nick Sanders in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Jack Llewellyn Hughes was back with a bang and out on the 85cc small wheel he made light work of his competition with comfortable 2 minute advantage from the hard charging and very determined Ryan Holland. Third place in the small wheel 85's went to Reece Pickersgill looking as immaculate as ever in his riding kit and shining bike. Charlie Chater was once again the man to beat in the shrunken 65cc class as he topped the race by a clear two laps from runner up Hayden Tyrer in the silver spot and the always improving Franky Skillen in third place. Special mention must go to the tiny Harrison Fewings on his little 50 auto as he rode like a demon to keep up with the bigger kids. And so come 1.45pm and all was done, a superb day of off road dirt biking with no hitches or glitches just top drawer organisation, fantastic weather, great atmosphere and very happy riders and racers. WOR would like to thank the events sponsors, PUTOLINE OIL, the land owners, the medics, the caterers, the event staff and of course all the riders and spectators that made the day the success it was...
“Blue sky …Sunshine…. 300 riders…..it was almost a mirage after the dull and dreary winter that has cursed the UK this last few months…. It was reality though and WOR Events ran a fantastic Race Experience Day on the Saturday before kicking off their first main championship of the 2013 season, The Putoline Hare Scrambles… The Putoline Hare Scrambles is a 7 round series for both adults and kids (separate races of course!). The kids go for 1.5hrs on a smaller, tailored track then the adults go for 2hrs on the main circuit, it is a cool concept and certainly pulled in the riders for this superb season starter at the clubs brilliant Baden Hall venue in Staffordshire. Kids Race….. The little ones got the action underway on Sunday morning as the slippery and technical track was just getting some sunshine on to it… George Saunders, rider 114 was flying and he led the race from start to finish in the 85cc BW class. Saunders was pushed early on by Ben Clarke but some mechanical gremlins kicked in after 4 laps and ended young Clarke’s day… Dan Gibbons took the runner spot from Saunders, both on 8 laps but with Gibbons nearly seven minutes down on the fast and smooth Saunders. Third place in group went to Sion Owen with a very neat ride. All three did 8 laps.
The over 85 cc group only had two finishers with Williams Criq’s sister, Mathilde doing a very creditable 5 laps and Oscar Evans out on his new 150 Honda in second place. Mitch Parkes was in great form in the 65’s and took the class win with 7 laps and nearly a 5 minute advantage over runner up Charlie Chater. Chater was unlucky though as he had pulled that gap to nothing and in fact overtook Parkes until some last lap mistakes and some rider fatigue got the better of him, it did make for some great racing though… Third place in the 65’s went to the always determined and ever improving Sion Jones. All of the little riders deserve a pat on the back as they took on the challenging conditions and came through triumphant and proud…Well done to all.
The impressive expert line up blasted away through the Baden Hall
field section and disappeared into the first woodland section…then in
one minute then in one minute gaps the other 8 classes followed suit…
Midwest Husaberg UK rider, Lee Sealey (125cc) was the first man back to
the score zone, with a big lead and some really smooth and skill full
riding the Young Nantwich based rider was never to be passed all race
and took a very commanding 3 minute + lead at the front of the pack for
his win. Sealey is maturing as a rider with every event and the 16 year
old can really make the little eighth litre machine go in any
conditions. Runner up was Ashley Fox…on the 450 4t Kawasaki, After a
bad start and not getting away with the pack Ashley powered on to cut
through the pack and earn his runners up spot…the 450 mx power of Fox
not quite getting the grip the purpose built Enduro bikes like Sealey
was riding were achieving. Jason Crossland was back and this time it was in the expert veteran class and he was serious about it. Running with the top Experts for the 1st hour, Jason carved out a 5 minute lead over runner up and WOR’s top vet rider, Chris Wagstaff. Wagstaff was out on a new bike and had some issues with the rear brake, this cost him time and frustrated him but he will certainly do closer battles with Crossland as the year pans out… Third place expert vet was number 299, Dean Johnson…Dean was really consistent and was less than 20 seconds down on Waggy. All three doing 10 laps of the demanding but enjoyable track.
Top Clubman 4t rider was Matt Boam, riding on number 36 the youngster made light work of the opposition and put in one clear lap ahead of the runner up George Price, Price was not happy with his performance but 2nd place on any rostrum is not to be sniffed at. Price really getting to grips now with his Kawasaki 250f. Third place in the class was Tom Cadwallader (#20) who was again part of this new generation of young riders that are flourishing at WOR …. In the Clubman 2t class it was Harry Eccles that took the win and a
well deserved win it was too, eventually having to push the bike over
the finish line at the end. Eccles had led from the start but due to
some probs and fuelling times he had to get the lead back from Dan Boam
(212) and fight hard to take the spoils of victory. Russell Taylor
defies his age every time and always mixes it with the youngsters, He
kicked off the 2013 series as he left last years, Mr consistent podium
man!! Third place amongst the flying kids was Russ’s reward. WOR Events are now running the most comprehensive Veterans classes in the UK, with such a growing band of riders now falling into the over 40 category it was a brainstorm and great idea from the organisers to include 3 separate classes for the Veterans and keep all riders happy and committed in a riding ability class they are most comfortable in. The Expert Veterans, Clubman Veterans and the Sportsman Veterans have gone down a storm … Clubman Veterans is a very competitive class and it was testament to the top 5 riders in the group that they completed 9 laps each.. Top Dog though was Julian Rylance, Like an old wine, he is getting better with age and fully deserved to kick off his year with a win and just over 2 minutes lead from Runner up, Gareth Lloyd (#461). Lloyd is a very consistent performer and once again defied his 50 + years to grab yet more silverware. Third place went to the always smooth and tidy Colin Griffiths (#151) who was just 39 seconds behind CF Racing boss Lloyd and again is another rider taking on those 50+ years and winning.
The Sportsman class was topped by Nathan Rodgers with a fine win over
runner Mike Manley.. Rodgers managing a 4 minute lead come the end of the
race. Rounding out the Sportsman Podium placing was Ben Brierly albeit 3
minutes down on Manley. The Youth class for 13 -16 year olds was full of some cracking riders and will be a very hotly contested class for this forthcoming year that is for sure. After lots of swapping places and changing positions, the victor and managing to get a superb 9 laps in was little Mr Consistent Ross Davies. Davies now moving onto a bigger wheeled bike was covering the ground a lot quicker and fully deserved his win. Ross Johns had some bike problems and had to settle for an eventual second place on 8 laps and finished 7 minutes clear of early Youth class leader Jack Cadwallader. Finally in hard fought Novice Class it was an impressive 8 laps from Glyn Ellis that secured the win from runner up Mark Bott and 3rd placed Jim Fitzsimmonds. All in all then this was the first of many top quality events that the WOR Events team will produce this year…The sunshine, the great venue, the scores of riders, the lift out of the recent bad weather was all 100% positive stuff…. WOR would like to thank PUTOLINE OILS, the BADEN HALL land owners, ALL of the riders and of course all the medical and event staff that make the events what they are. WOR EVENTS HARE & HOUNDS .. “WOR Events used the first weekend in February to kick start the 2013 season with a warm up Hare & Hounds Enduro. Running for 2.5hrs on a superb , new designed course in one of the blocks of their awesome Llandrillo Forest saw a decent weekends weather and plenty of riders take the opportunity to enjoy the first normal events and Race Experience Day of the year, post Tough One, from the busy crew of ladies and gents from the WOR team. The Saturday as always hosted the Race Experience Day and was well received by all as is always the way, Sunday had an extra 2 miles of track added including some more technical sections and a few more bits of…”gotta think here!” Starting at 11am the riders lined up on the forest road and in their individual classes they set off after a dead engine start on the drop of the race director’s flag. Midwest Husaberg UK rider, Lee Sealey was first man back to the race control and the scoring zone and had a very healthy lead indeed as he blasted the little 125 round the forest. Come the end of the race, Lee had not surrendered his lead once as he took an eventual near two minute lead from the always improving SS Racing Husqvarna rider, Jon Hunt. These two youngsters really are flying at the moment. Third place Expert went to another young rider, 18 year old Jon Hill, again this youngster has cut his teeth at WOR since being a very small rider indeed, His new Honda 250f really suiting him as he rounded out the podium. All three top riders did 13 laps and were the only 3 to do so.
Topping the Clubman 2t class was Stuart Waterhouse, He had a race long battle with eventual runner up, Robin Hughes, and third place Vince Mullan. These 3 were never far apart and were banging bars at lap scoring for the duration of the event. In the end, Waterhouse took it from Hughes by 42 seconds whom in turn was just 10 seconds infront of bronze award winner Mullan. All 3 did 12 laps. The Clubman thumper class was won outright in fine style by Peter Wainwright, he was a full lap clear of runner up John Ingram who was a lap clear of third placed Phil Ball. Peter did 12 laps, matching the 2t boys with Ingram on 11 and Ball on 10 laps. Wainwright was actually the fastest Clubamn rider overall on the day. Colin Griffiths was going really well on the day and was smooth and consistent as ever to take the top vets award, 12 laps to his credit had Griffiths a lap clear of runner up Mark Jackson and 3rd placed Stephen Thornton. Thornton was just short of a minute down on the hard charging Jackson. After a long hard battle in the Sportsman class it was Adam Mcanna that burst ahead to take the class win with a huge 4 minute margin. Runner up went to Matt Verrin with Mike Manley in a strong 3rd place. 4th placed Frank Parkinson had led the Sportsman group for nearly 2 hours but fatigue and a lack of bike fitness hit him hard in the last half hour. All the top Sportsman completed 10 laps. Guy Hemming was enjoying himself in the new Sportsman Vets class as he secured the Runner up spot from Michael Eaton, The top rider in class though was Andrew Mills as he took nearly a minute advantage at the top of the group after pushing hard and taking the lead from Hemmings in the last two laps. The Novice Group was topped by Tony Graham from Matthew Mills and Nick lines in second and third place respectively. Finally in the Youth class Jack Sanders took the win from Ross Johns with both riders really flying at times around the tricky course. Special mention to Stuart lines who battle don for a finish in the Sportsman vets by struggling back to base with just a wire for his throttle.!! Well done that man. So all in all a great days racing that once again had the WOR Events team roll out another quality event with top drawer marshals, superb medical cover and most of all as at all WOR Events, the friendly and unrivalled atmosphere around the paddock and race track. WOR ‘s next event kicks off the season properly on Feb 23/24TH at the always popular Baden Hall in Staffordshire. The 2013 kids and adult Hare Scrambles kick off that weekend.
