WTRA confirms 2011 dates

WTRA has recently confirmed its list of competition events for 2011 and will continue with the successful format of recent years. This will see two traditional timecard enduro's together with two 2-day rallies in forestry around the Llandovery area of SW Wales.

The year starts with the Snow Run Enduro, long regarded as the season opener for traditional timecard events, due to take place on Sunday 6th February, in the Crychan and Glyn Saer Forests. The event will feature two special tests as part of a 25 mile lap with an easy time schedule. The usual classes are catered for and the Veteran A (Expert) and Veteran B (Clubman) classes will continue and a new twin shock class has been introduced. An application has been made to the ACU for the event to be part of their proposed twin shock championship. Entries are available with immediate effect and Regs can be obtained from the clubs website at www.wtra.co.uk. In an effort to reduce paperwork and postage, competitors can take advantage of an on-line entry system. Follow the link to Snow Run entry form and fill in the details on-line. The entry can then be printed off, signed and sent to the Entries Sec. with a cheque. Those without internet access can still send a SAE to Jim Weaver, 296 Stonehouse Lane, Quinton, Birmingham, B32 3AL for regs.

This will be followed by the Red Kite Enduro on Easter Sunday (24th April) in Halfway Forest. The event uses the start area and many of the tracks from the early days of enduro, together with that part of the MoD Eppynt ranges still available to off-road motorcycling.

The Club will then be running two Rally's to complete the year. Both are 2-day events, with a 1-day option on the Sunday for those who are unable to make the full weekend. Also it is proposed to introduce a 2-lap per day option for novice riders in both events. The first will be the Beacons 2-day Rally on 20th / 21st August in Crychan Forest and will also take in Glyn Saer forest, last used in the introductory event that took place in 2009. The second will be the Cambrian Rally on 15th / 16th October, in the Tywi Forest, incorporating part of the Strata Florida track and stunning scenery in one of the remotest areas of Mid-Wales. Each of the four days of competition will count towards the 2011 WTRA Rally Championship.

Following the successful social event on the Saturday night of the Beacons Rally, it is hoped to continue with another BBQ and quiz night. The awards from the WTRA 2010 Rally Championship will be also presented. This year's winners were Craig Bounds (Trail Bike class) and Jonathan Williams (Sports Bike). Full championship details are on the WTRA website.

A number of club stalwarts have participated in Enduro Africa in recent years and training and assistance will be given to riders who have signed up with Global Enduro for this year's event. This takes the form of a weekend event in May which was last year supported by, amongst others, experienced rally competitors, Craig Bounds and Mick Extance. Full details will be announced on the Global Enduro website.
