McConnell signs with Aprilia

Scotland’s best enduro talent, Euan McConnell has been signed by Aprilia UK to contest the 2009 British Enduro Championship and the national GBXC series aboard the new RXV 450 twin.

The 2007 British E3 Enduro Champion was drafted in by Aprilia after proving his skills in the E3 class in the British and challenging World Enduro Championship last year.

“Aprilia were looking for someone who would be competitive on their new RXV 450 twin and that’s when they called me,” explained the 6ft 5” tall Scot. “I tested the bike for the first time at NTB Motorcycles in York a few weeks ago and loved it.

“The bike has bucket loads of seamless torque and horsepower, but is surprisingly agile. It feels like a small bike until you open the throttle and there always seems to be more power available. It is completely different from anything I have ridden. Aprilia has thrown away convention and come up with radical new concepts to make this bike. It even sounds different from anything else. It’s an amazing piece of machinery.

“I’m looking forward to the first round of the British Enduro Championship this weekend. I am starting on the same minute as David [Knight] and it will be like old times… although on quite different bikes.

“I think that it is an exciting time for the enduro scene with the introduction of new models like the Aprilia joining the field. I’m sure we’ll see some new bikes taking wins this year.”

The first round of the British Enduro Championship will take place this weekend at Thetford Forest in Norfolk on Sunday 22 February. To keep up to date with Euan’s racing visit www.euanmcconnell.com
