Lancashire's Ribble Valley is a picturesque place and last weekend it played host to one of the biggest off-road events of the season so far - The Gisburn Massive. Surprisingly, it nearly didn't happen. Three days of solid rain put doubt into organiser John Kerwin's mind, but by Thursday the rain had stopped and a sunny breezy day helped the course considerably. With over 500 riders lined up across the two days of the weekend there was a lot at stake but this popular five and a half mile rolling grassland course was in pristine condition by the time racing got underway on Saturday, if a little greasy in places on some of the steeper banks, especially the infamous Barn Banks area, and in the woodland sections but with a new 'extreme' section featuring railway sleepers and logs the course had plenty to offer. The Dirt Bike Trax crew had been hard at work creating new sections, that would stand up to the pounding from so many riders, and four differing courses to suit all abilities. Details

Darren Wheeler (left) won the event completing 10 laps in the 3 hours. He was some distance in front of the next 3 riders: Keith Jenkins, Rich Warner and Tyson Mayton-Jones (below), all 3 of whom battled hard for the runner up award right to the end of the race. Details

Somerley Park was the setting for round 2 of the Rock Oil British Amca Hare & Hounds Championship on 3rd May. Full entries of riders were treated to what turned out to be a tough but most enjoyable ride. The course was approx 6 miles in length, which consisted of open tracks, lots of woodland with sandy climbs, cambers and natural jumps. You name it the track had it! Gary Warr and his team had put a lot of thought into the track to accommodate the large but restricted entry with many riders leaving it too late and missing out on a superb event. Details
