Report by Jon Airey, Photos by Bob Wilson The First round of the NREC, Hare and Hound Challenge got off to a glorious start. The voluntary team with decades of knowledge had set a fantastic course that was challenging, and technical, yet flowing. There were none of the usual exhausted souls to be found on this event, as the crew proved their hands on experience had provided a test for the experienced, and novice alike. Chicken runs were provided for those who didn't feel capable of the serious inclines, and real gains were rewarded to those who did. Thankfully the ambulance crew had nothing to do but soak up the sun, and friendly atmosphere.
Glorious sunshine and a great track of just over 6 miles greeted the riders at the Round 1 of The 2009 Builth Wells H&H Series, held on Sunday 19th April. Club members had been very busy preparing the track over the past few months and with warm and dry weather in the weeks leading up to the event conditions were spot on.
Ady Smith added to a truly top class entry at round 2 of the rideoffroaduk 2009 Championship. The event was held in perfect conditions, a return to our popular 2 event format provided all riders with a truly fantastic Hare & Hound Enduro at this iconic venue. With all classes seeing fierce competition at the sharp end of the field, this event proved once again to be popular for competitors and spectators alike.

Before I start Leo would like to make a comment and say Thanks to David and Ollie Moyce, Kurt Pringle and Midwest Husaberg without them this dream result would never have happened…. Merde il pleut… Leo was off to race in France at the opening UEM round, It was decided to share the travelling expense with young Tom Braddock and his father from Norwich. Unfortunately it looked as tho Leo would not be riding but at the last minute David Moyce offered Leo a 450 Husaberg, one of Ollie's practice bikes to ride in the event as Ollie had hurt his shoulder the weekend prior and upon arrival in France decided he was not fit enough to ride. Having never seen the proposed race bike Leo was unsure of how it would perform especially as it was set up for Ollie's 11 stone frame opposed to Leo's considerably larger one! The bike was tried round the test track and 1 or 2 minor adjustments made and that was it, ready to race! Tests were walked in the glorious sun and everything was set for a nice ride out in the sunshine. Talk was of how good it would be to use 1 pair of tinted lens goggles all weekend… how wrong they were to be. Full Report

The event was held in Riom De Montage in Southern France. 495 miles from Calais. After a long gap since the last Enduro, the Muntjac, held in late February, the Race in France proved to be very difficult. While the Sun was shining at home over the Easter weekend it was to be a very different story in France, with heavy rain foretasted for the whole event. With a 5th place finish on day 1 and only 6 seconds off 3rd place, Ed was slightly disappointed not get in the top 3, so he was determined on day 2 to improve on this result. Details

Ricky Mair opted to miss out Round 2 Silkolene 2 Stroke British Motocross Championship despite lying 7th in the championship to contest the frst round of the Scottish Enduro Championship held at Lossiemouth on 11/12th April. Having only picked up his new KTM 250 EXC midweek it was a last minute decision to ride and try out the new machine. After winning the first test on Saturday ahead of BEC regulars, Euan Mcconnell and Richard Hay a couple of costly falls later in the day left Ricky trailing in a dissappointing 5th after the first day. However, after some changes to the bike, he came out fighting on Sunday and won by a clear margin. "I was struggling Saturday to get to grips with the new bike, I've been riding motocross on a 450cc lately so getting back on a 2 stroke enduro bike felt a bit weird to start with. I was pushing a bit too hard and fell on 2 of the 4 tests which spoilt my result, by Sunday I was starting to flow but then snapped my gear lever off half way through a test and then had a big off, thankfully I had done enough in the earlier tests and I'm delighted to have won my first Scottish Championship enduro, the Grampian club have put on yet another awesome event!" Ricky commented. Ricky plans to ride more Scottish Enduros rounds in preparation for the next British Enduro Championship which he is currently lying 7th E2 after a solid result at Muntjac. His attention will now turns back to motocross for Round 3 of the Maxxis British Championship on 3 May at Brampton, Cumbria where he will be riding for G-Force Honda team. Details
The third round of the Putoline XC Championship enjoyed excellent Easter weather at the Ashby de la Zouch venue as the series really hotted-up. Organised by Fasteddyracing.com the 7km course used only half of the course used by the GBXC events last year. The ground was considerably drier and the course quite technical but it didn't stop the Expert riders from top-gearing it along many of the straights. With plenty of small but technical woodland diversions the course gave plenty of variety to riders and really suited all levels and abilities. Before the main race of the day, the Youth riders used virtually the whole of the adult course and managed it with ease. Details
