David Knight wins
the 2010 Weston Beach Race
The glorious Autumn sunshine attracted a massive crowd of 50,000 to Weston
Super Mare for the 29th annual Beach Race and they weren't disappointed as
500 riders blasted off the line led by the 2010 EWC, BEC & BSEC
champion David Knight. David has won the event before in 2002 and 2006 but at his
last appearance in 2008 his bike blew up during a great battle with Stefan
Everts. Jamie Lewis crossed the Bristol Channel to take 2nd and Luke
Hawkins was 3rd. The bionic Aaron Poolman was 4th and the young McCanney
brothers from the Isle of Man - Danny & Jamie - were 5th & 6th.
Danny did particularly well as he broke his rear caliper on the 2nd lap
and rode 18 laps without a back brake. Last year's race had to be
stopped following a
crash at the start in horrendous conditions but there were no problems
this year. In fact 17 year old Ty Kellett - the young lad who was so badly
injured - was back and he finished in 38th. Tom Church was less
fortunate with three quarters of the race over his bike broke down while
he was in 2nd place. Josh Coppins also retired with a mechanical problem. - Report

Cambrian
16/17th October

The
Welsh Trail Riders had a picture postcard perfect weekend for their Cambrian 2
Day Rally near Lyn Brianne. Clear skies overnight created a
frosty feel to the early morning light but a bright October sun soon
spread it's warmth over the golden hues of Mid Wales in Autumn.
The start
was at Soar Y Mynnydd and the 35 mile lap was ridden twice on Day 1. There were 2
tests and they were timed on the second lap. Full

Stonedown
17th October
Rich Warner, Gary McCoy and Gary Wright took the top 3
positions at today's spectacular SCEC Stonedown Forest event on Cranborne
Chase. The Expert class was won by the very likeable Dan Lawry who
effortless style makes him one of the smoothest riders out there, 2nd
expert was Andy Scudamore and 3rd was Matt Ward . The Vet Class had a very
experienced field with top honours going to Paul Tossell with Jeremy
Chapman in 2nd and 3rd place to Michael Brooks. Clubman E1 class was won
by Tony Primmer closely followed by Danny Andrews and Colin Wilkins.
Clubman E2 class was won by Mark Woodfine followed by Jake Forward and
Paul O'Connell. Clare Taylor has to be congratulated in not only winning
the Ladies event but to come 26th overall in such a talented field has to
be applauded. The Novice class was won by David sawtell who managed 13
laps. Sportsman Over 40 class was won by Mike Hill 13 laps, Sportsman
class won by Michael Claxton 13 laps. The weather was very kind and the
sun shone through after a very cold start to the day. The course featured rather more in the way of brash, stumps and
roots than some riders maybe used to, and a number suffered with punctures
as a result. Poor Stephen Mulliner who was a favourite for a podium had 3
punctures and Sportsman Over 40 Neil Fripp also had 2 punctures. In Chains
who supported the event sold out of tubes very quickly and there tyre
fitter was very busy but other than that all went well. A superb days racing in
perfect weather and not a single reported injury. We couldn't have asked
for more! Results - Photos

2010 Hafren Rally
10th October
Autumn is the season of mist and mellow fruitfulness
and Hafren Dirt Bike Club had an abundance of both for this Sunday's
Hafren Rally when a warn wind from the Southwest brought with it a blanket
of low cloud that covered Mid Wales. The start was in the Sweet Lamb
Motorsport Complex near Llanidloes and scrutineering began at 7.30am. For
the hardy souls who camped overnight the pre-dawn gloom was illuminated by
neon strips
and the bright smiles of the signing on girls. They had their work cut out
with
a full entry of 260+ riders to be dealt with for many of whom this was their first event.
There was a wide variety of machines ranging from the mighty Adventurers
to the diminutive serows & a couple of twin shock PEs but each was check over and tested for
excess noise. Report & results

Freddie Broadway wins round 5 and laps the whole
field!
With a wet week before the event we were expecting a challenging event
with Woodberry's clay making it feel like you were riding on ice.
With a slightly shorter track than normal (3.5 miles) Freddie Broadway
(left) started lapping the sportsman class on his second lap. The slippery
conditions didn't phase him and he continued to lap the whole field and
notch up 16 laps during the 3hr H&H to finish the clear winner. Young
Aaron Smith was runner up and Simon Beken was 3rd. Phil Whiffen won the
Expert class with Dave Taylor very hot on his heels. Andy Ball was 3rd.
Freddie Davis won Clubman A with Reg Sheppard in 2nd and 3rd was Wayne
Holdsworth.
One of the hottest battles was the Clubman B class with Russell Jacobs
grabbing top spot from Jamie Moller with Martin Biles in 3rd. The top 4
Sportsman were superb and top spot was Shaun Street followed by Simon
Amott, Stuart Smith, and Joe Atkinson all 4 would have all finished in the
top 10 of Clubman B, so maybe they will be moving up a class soon. The
Veteran Class had a clear winner in Tom Moore with Neil Repton and Paul
Garner fighting for 2nd and 3rd places respectively. 123 riders started
the day and surprisingly only 11 DNFed due to machine or body failure. The
Major Hadley championship is really hotting up with just one round to go,
every class has about 3-5 riders that could lift the title. Results

1 YEAR ON…!!!
CTR EVENTS is just over 1 year old, It has been a steep learning curve
- both good & bad. We have found some really good, totally new venues
and we have put on 13 events. We have come across some people/other
organisers/clubs with objective & disruptive input. Looking back we
have learnt, adapted and improved.
CTR have got things right most of the time when it comes to putting on
fair and rideable courses for all abilities, However we have deffo got
things wrong - like running Foxhill woods clockwise after 2 days of heavy
rain. Full Report

White Horse
The White Horse, reintroduced to the North of England Enduo
Championship after a 4-year lay-off, was a fitting finale to the 2010
series. The North Riding Club provided an excellent day's riding in the
'classic' enduro tradition that tested every competitor, with everyone bar
the sportsmen (where times were deliberately generous) dropping minutes.
A 13-mile lap of varied going made best use of the contours of Boltby
Forest. The special test was a particular highlight, with a touch of
everything: trees, green rides, climbs, descents, open moors and a bit of
mud. Unusually for the North of England in October, the main weather
hazard was the bright but seasonally low sunshine. Temperatures that
wouldn't have been out of place in August made it warm work in some of the
stickier parts of the lap.
The challenging nature of the course led to some alterations towards
the end of the event, cutting out a couple of sections where going was
becoming particularly tricky. Special mention must go to Nigel Heath (no.
65) for completing 2 laps on his classic Husky (...and managing to get in
the video twice!). Video

Close
Motor Finance Scottish Enduro Championship Review
2010 was another amazing year for the Close Motor Finance Scottish Enduro
Championship with the final result going right down to the wire in the Expert
Class. When Richard Hay rode as a marshall at Lochhouses in February, to see
how he would get on, no one would have predicted that he would become the
outright Scottish Champion for 2010. He barely has enough strength to lift his
arm onto the handle bars, Richard was having none of it, four outright wins
and he rarely missed the podium all year. Richard has incredible self belief
which combined with loads of practice has seen him overcome his injury and win
against all the odds. Richard, a seven times Scottish Champion already, has
ridden all over the world and nearly won the Dawn to dusk outright, riding
Ironman, single handed. Despite this and many other brave outings this
Championship win has to be one of his best achievements ever. Derek Little the
2009 Expert Champion kept him honest to the last round finishing a close
second. Details

shines at CTR
CTR EVENTS kicked off Round 1 of their Winter series with the promise
of sun shine on this beautiful valley. CTR and the team had a H & H's
race track set out that was simply one of the best you will ever ride. The
parking, pits and start line were all in the same field. The course went
into a old sunken road with a drop into a stream back, out to the road
then up the stream, up a small banking, through some bogs, through a ford
crossing into fields, woods, roads, over jumps up the fields into woods
over some logs into a trench crossing back into the lap scoring. Full

Manchester 17's Long Mynd Hare & Hounds lived up to it's
reputation on Sunday October 10th as one of the tougher rides but a good
entry of 135 riders were prepared to take on the challenge. A morning mist
had lifted by the 11.00am start. The 10 mile lap was very tight and
narrow in places. By the halfway stage the Sportsmen were relieved to see
the staple guns come out to cut a couple of the more demanding sections.
Dave Brick was the winner from Adrian Smith and Robert Reese was 3rd. By
the end of race Gareth Brewin was setting Expert times to win the Clubman
E1 ahead of Simon Bradford on a solo and Daniel Watson took 3rd place. The
open Clubman award went to Craig Thomas after a close battle with Robert
Pearce. Andy Jarvis was 3rd. Colin Blunt was the best of the Over40s.
Allan Price was the runner up and Kev Freeman was 3rd. Martin Kohv won the
Sportsman from Luke Thomas and John Kerwin. Ian Barnett brought home the
Vets ahead of Dan Bishop and Ian Jones.
After the event Geriant Rogers congratulated all those who finished and
promised that "next year's event will be a more open one with fewer
whoopy bits but it'll take lots of chainsaw work and probably reduce the
lap a bit. Though rest assured, it'll still be a challenge and offer a
varied ride with the Enduro rider in mind. Plus it'll be the fast paced
Enduro check style of lap you seem to enjoy". Results

Bulgaria
hosts the fourth round of the Eastern European Enduro Championship
Between 21st and 24th October Bulgaria will host the fourth round of
the Eastern European Enduro Championship. The best Enduro riders of the
Balkans will visit the city of Shumen, situated in the North East part of
the country to decide the champions of Eastern Europe. The area around
Shumen is really an interesting one, combining high plateaus, rivers,
different types of forest and soils - all the elements necessary for a
good enduro race (hard enduro race actuallyJ). The MSC Shumen, chaired by
Kalin Kulev - the head of the Bulgarian Enduro Commission, won in three
consecutive years the Prize for organizer Number 1 in the National Enduro
Championship, a trophy decided by many factors, the main of which is the
opinion of the riders and the cooperation at the different levels with the
local authorities. This event will be unusual - not just an EEEC round! It
will include many other motorcycling activities such as hill climbing,
drag race, speedway race, the Bulgarian National Enduro Championship`s
final, the Bulgarian ATV Cup, moto festival will lots of games, rock
concert and so on. You can find complete information for the event on www.enduroshumen.com
