The first day of the 2010 Welsh 2 Day was relatively incident free. The familiar course ran clockwise & like clock work. The first 2 sidecars were flagged away from the lakeside by the Mayor of Llandrindod - Councillor Gary Price - at precisely 8.00am. The first test was at Church Farm, Crossgates - a couple of miles outside the town. It was a wooded cross country test & the riders only rode it once on the first day. KORR Racing's Daryl Bolter set the fastest time by 2 seconds from Tom Sagar on his Putoline Suzuki Fast Eddy 450. Fellow team mate Lee Edmondson was 3rd. One rider didn't make the test when a loose tyre clamp shredded his moose. The sky was overcast & there was a fine gnat mist on the riders goggles as they rode south to the first tight check of the day through the Irfon Forest. The field then climbed the winding Devil's Staircase to the river crossings on Strata Florida.- Report - Results Correction: The Putoline Suzuki fasteddyracing.com team of Paul Edmondson, Lee Edmondson & Tom Sagar won the Best Team award.

The venue seems to host Enduros in either one of two weather conditions - either a wet slog that wrecks the bike and causes a huge retirement list as local dealers rub their hands as cash tills ring for weeks following replacing chains/sprockets and pads or it’s a 24 hour heatwave and dust and dehydration is the order of the day, this month it was the latter. If Hollywood re-made the Field of Dreams, Carl Tiley would have to be cast in the Kevin Costner role. His conviction that "if you build it, they will come" has resulted in some of the most innovative courses & Manhilad was no exception. He laid half a mile of hardcore just to get the riders to the start. The forest has not been used before & the dense undergrowth was almost impenetrable. The CTR team had to hack the route out with machettes. One man died for every mile that they cut or at least had a nasty blister. Full Report

An excellent entry of nearly 110 riders including both solos and sidecars lined up for the start of the Church Farm H&H, just outside Crossgates, near Llandrindod Wells last Sunday. Members of Builth Wells Motor Club had been very busy in the weeks leading up to the event, and all their hard work was worthwhile as what a great event it turned out to be! The weather over the days leading up to the event had been dry and on the day it was to be no different. Even so, there were still some very soggy patches on the course, which would test the riders and keep the marshals very busy. Full Report

KTM Enduro Factory Team rider Taddy Blazusiak has claimed his fourth consecutive Erzberg Rodeo Red Bull Hare Scramble victory, dominating this year's event after claiming a near perfect win. Leading from the start Taddy didn't have things all his own way as he made a small, but costly, mistake while weaving his way through one of the technical wooded sections of the course. Dropping off the racing line, and having to return to the start of the trail before working his way back towards the next check-point, Taddy dropped down into sixth position but wasted no time in working his way back into the lead. Once back out front Blazusiak pushed no harder than he needed to and having opened up a commanding lead by the time he exited some of the event's most technical sections he arrived at the finish in a time of 1.45:43, more than 10 minutes ahead of runner-up Andreas Lettenbichler. Just 16 of the 500 starters finished the Red Bull Hare Scramble. The opening round of the 2010 Bache's Bargains /PAR Homes Ltd sponsored Open Welsh Mx championship got off to a flying start with a fantastic crowd of some 3,000 watching in the evening sunshine as a top class Expert line up battled for the night's prize money. With a somewhat international flavour to the evening it was the USA verses Ireland in the opening moto as Alaskan rider Ben Lamay and the Irish duo of Martin Barr and Gordan Crockard battled it out with Englishman Ray Rowson and "local" Welsh riders Jamie Lewis. Lamay might well have been expecting cold and wet conditions to race in perhaps not unlike his homeland and could well have been expected to turn up riding a "Husky", but throwing the form book of the last couple of years out of the window the damp and cold conditions were replaced with a Sun that shone from start to finish, so Lamay took the Samsung Yamaha out instead! Husky Sport, UK distributor for Husqvarna Motorcycles, is disappointed to announce the retirement of Simon Wakely from Enduro competition. Simon, who has this year been campaigning the new Husqvarna TE250 in British Championship Enduro and ACU British Enduro Sprint Championships, has taken the difficult decision to withdraw from competition after a series of disappointing results. Simon said ‘After 17 years of racing, I feel I need to take a break. I’m not getting the results I should be and that my sponsors deserve so I’ve taken the difficult decision to stop mid season to reassess my future. I’d like to thank my sponsors and family for their massive support over the years, without them I wouldn’t have got as far as I have in the sport.’ Mike Carter, MD of Husky Sport commented ‘We are very disappointed that Simon has chosen to retire from racing mid season, in particular as together with our sponsors we had put together a very comprehensive support package for him this year. The bike that Simon chose to ride this year, the new Husqvarna TE250, is currently leading the E1 Enduro World Championship and we had high hopes of replicating this success with Simon on the British scene.’ Husqvarna will continue to be represented at Enduros in the UK by Joe Deakin riding for Husqvarna UK on the WR125 and by the MPS Racing Husqvarna team.
